Wings and Wheels Alaska

Күн бұрын

This week we try and find an escape but we end up at a campground. Overlanding in Alaska can be tough during the offseason especially with a late spring like we experienced this year. Today we take the Ford Bronco and The Winnebago Revel 4 x 4 for a little overland adventure where we find peach and solitude. The dogs enjoy a nice hike and we use our starlink for the first time.

I havent dipped in to your travels for a while, but this time of year always reminds me of my trip to Alaska (from the UK) what feels like a thousand years ago! Thought I'd drop by and say hello. Starlink has been a godsend for nomads. We're actually thinking of getting one for our home 😊 Bella is gorgeous and made me chuckle when she was snapping at the raindrops 😂 Stay well. Best wishes.

I find it rather telling that the name of this video is “I Lost My Patience” and the very first scenes were drone shots rising up and away from the ground, speaking to the internal desire to leave whatever made you lose your patience beneath you. The sigh in your voice while standing on the snow remaining in your campsite is certainly one I can understand. While you’re in a place known for that white stuff, I can only imagine that having it remain this late into the year tends to grate on one's nerves. I rather enjoyed seeing the slow pan of the moss and the various other plants down low. Dropping the camera down like that forces a change of perspective not unlike the internal one you’re so desperately searching for as well. Seeing the rain and the snow, one has to ask, how’s the drought level going in Alaska? Have you finally gotten out of it? Naturally, the consideration is significant given Alaska’s propensity to burst into flames every summer. I can only hope you’ll avoid that this year. That tea contraption of yours certainly is interesting. I’ve never used such a thing, though I have to admit that it looks perfect for the job. I also found it amusing that you chose to reverse the footage of the steam for a moment in your video, showing the steam moving into the tea rather than away from it. It’s always fun to look at things in different ways. I know a few people now with Starlink and the one thing that I get told about it is that you’ll be penalized for moving. Starlink isn’t prioritized for RV living, so you’ll not be able to get the full experience with it until there are more satellites in the constellation where they’ll bump up RVers. I’m glad you have the functionality, especially given the list of reasons you mentioned. Being able to reach out to family and friends can ease the mind, especially if life events warrant the additional communication needed. Ember is hilarious when it comes to water. She’ll go stand in it and look back at you like, “What are you waiting for? Come on in!”, meanwhile Bella’s standing there as if saying, “Naw, I’m good. I’ll stay here on land.” One of your puppies is a fish, the other is a camel! Seeing Jim pouring a beer into the Tri-tip InstaPot Inspiration made me smile. When I was stationed in Germany I’d see the Germans barbecuing meat and they’d constantly pour beer over the meat, and they’d say, “One for the meat, one for me.” Suffice to say, when the barbecue was in full swing, they were too. This video also marks the very first time I’ve ever seen Jim wink. Points for you, good Sir. I loved seeing the old water pump. Back when we lived in Washington we had one that had to be primed by pouring water through the top of it. Best water ever! I’m not so sure in your case that it’d be very different from the clean water of your rivers. That pump hasn’t been used in quite a while so the rust buildup on the inside left a lot to be desired. The only way to fix it is to keep pumping. Your thoughts on patience are poignant given the world these days, or even dealing with the weather. One of the hardest things I’ve had to learn is that I have to look through other people's eyes more than my own, and I tend to fair better listening than talking. I’m not remotely close to having mastered it, but I try, regardless of what Master Yoda thinks about that. Take care you two.

I’ve liked most all of your videos. But recently not to informative . More interested in the way your Revel works , rides , Any new changes with it , and the Alaska destinations , and less interested about watching your feet walk to the fire pit . I also feel like I’m in a first grade class ( what have we learned today ? ) I do appreciate your work on the videos but I just want more out of them recently.

Hi Kelly, I appreciate your opinion. Honestly we have upgraded the revel to the extreme. Unless we bore you with plumbing upgrades that we have been Doing recently then there is very little else we can show you about upgrading a van until some new technology is invented. Bronco on the other hand adds some new life, additions, and upgrades we can possibly do. I am sorry we cannot meet your expectations unless maybe you have some content ideas? Bet we can cover that!

Hello!!! I (Cynthia) ordered it two years ago after seeing they were releasing them again. I love the original Broncos and this was something I really wanted! 😊 I've been enjoying driving it while Jim and the doggies are in the van. Bella loves the front seat. Great video. Great to see you guys back. Nice job with the dog training Jim. I travel/camp with four big mixed breeds in a truckbed topper camper. I’ve invested a lot in their training as without reliable obedience it would be impossible to take them on the road. I’ve been thinking about trying to get to the Dempster Highway from northern Wisconsin. How difficult is it to cross the US/Canadian border (in both directions) with dogs? Any info/advice would be much appreciated. Thanks!
@rasalas2x
@rasalas2x Жыл бұрын
Great to watch you travelling again. After 6 years of denials at the border and other issues we are finally back in AK for what has become an abbreviated vacation. Traveled to Keno and then Tuk and then back to Tombstone from western New York for the start of what should have been 3 months here. Then a fall for my wife required medical attention which my code for the sat phone would not allow a call out. Neighbor camper had Starlink with which we could get an ambulance from Dawson City where air med transport could get her to one of the best medical facilities in North America, Providence Hospital. Surgeons were standing by and now 2 weeks later a second surgery tomorrow followed by about 2 weeks observation to ensure no infection from implants in the ankle. I will drive back to meet her commercial flight sometime afterwards. AT ANY RATE this post is more about the value of adequate communication when long distances from any cell coverage or assistance. Your investment will meet personal needs but may well be life of limb saving. And we had a nice conversation with one of your Reveler's Sue D(?). This is not about us but advice for those travelling off grid to remember anything can happen at any time any where. Know your ability to seek help when needed. Don't just assume everything will always be okay. Thanks again for your wonderful and heartfelt videos.

Great video! It doesn’t get much better than that…if any! So relaxing. So after watching the video through I wish to add that yes, we want to visit Alaska. I recently asked Lynn and Owen of Van Trekking Lifestyles if they would lead a tour of Alaska when they returned. I enjoyed the tour you all did for the Revel group. Would you all do one for other type RVs? We have a Winnebago View. So smaller but not 4 wheel drive. So might be able to do some off road but I wouldn’t want to push it much. We like boondocking and can for a few days at a time. We live in TN and will probably retire toward the end of 2024. Thanks again for a great video.
