I read in a book on I Love Lucy that this episode was taped on Friday, October 17, 1952 (the day I was born; as they taped at 5 p.m., the book said, I was about three hours old). So this show has special meaning at least for me. With classic comedy such as this, for many others as well.

Something exists here that has been lost in translation. TALENT !! This used to be a prerequisite for fame. Now it is a roadblock to fame. It's amazing because Desi was the first real corporate mogul in television. Now television is run by corporate know nothings. Well they do know how to advertise & brainwash & to be formulaic. Because of this we will never again have talent like this grace our screens. We will have to go to Broadway & the like to find it.

One of the things about this show that grates on me is how Lucille Ball COULD actually sing but they make her play a tone deaf and talentless wannabe. I guess it's just one of my weird issues but letting a talented singer/performer ham it up every now and then is fine, but to make it their character and only let them rarely display their talent just infuriates me.
