I enjoyed your overnight trip near the Rogue River I used to live in Southern Oregon Grants Pass area , I'm taking a one nighter this weekend gonna go Demo the new Zero DSR X adventure bike , thanks for laying your gear out on the table that'll help me pack up my BMW 21 F 750 GS today . Did a one nighter 200 miles on my VAN VAN 200. Farm roads, gravel roads, WMA, water crossings, and camped by a stream. Nice weekend.

I really enjoy your videos. Maybe it's my age (59) but it proves that you don't have to be blasting the rpms, doing wheelies, and going over jumps to enjoy yourself or to prove yourself. But if that's what a person likes, then that's cool too. However, when riding 15 years ago, I much preferred taking my time and taking it all in vs high speed low drag. I used to go on group rides, but it was more about trying to keep up than having fun as some in the group were constantly 15 mph over the speed limit. Maybe I'm more cautious these days but being outdoors is so awesome on a bike. Whether it's 300cc or 1,500cc enjoy the ride! Ride on brother, from Northwest Wisconsin!

I once did a three nighter driving from Seattle to Irvine on smaller roads. I really enjoyed the nature in Northern California, the mountains and the coast line. I believe this idea of a one nighter is just great to ride and explore. Equipment and packing wise it doesn't make a big difference compared with a multi week ride. Way to go on the overnighters! I do that and especially long dayers as my wife, a cancer survivor with a lot of scares likes me home at night so she can have any request for winning a hard, scary fight. Up before the sun and gone and back after dark usually unless a special ride she oks. Anyway, good for you in your 70s rolling the back country and doing it your way. I am a BDR guy as well as an explorer in my 60s. I have been all over the US and Canada- except Texas that is on the list. I grew up riding in the bush of Alaska in the mountains so have had plenty of adventures on a DS bike(s). With getting a ADV bike it has just hit the right spot in my riding at the right time. Like you, mostly solo and stop often. Its one of my slight regrets that when younger it was more about the ride than the stop and take it all in. I have now fixed that and love my rides. I was a fire dept medic, a first responder medic, a police field medic in special operations units so I always have a med kit too. You can take care of yourself and others. Now retired I just point it and go on some of the best adventures. So, love your channel my friend, keep rolling, stay safe and maybe see you out there!

I rather enjoyed this video. A great traveling adventure video with a motorcycle. I'm 62 now and love the idea of traveling on a bike , I need some adventure in my life. I moved from California to the outskirts of Madrid, Spain. I have had big bikes in the past but now am looking for a small bike to travel with scrambler type basically so I can be on gravel and also be able to ride the paved roads. I want something that's great on gas mileage. Safe riding, and thx for sharing your one nighter my friend.

As an Australian living in the southern state of Victoria, I understand the pain of residence of towns taken by bush fires. We share a lot in common with the people of northern California in respect to this. But on a happier note, I also love riding MY Tenere 700 in our bush areas and meeting the locals. I love solo trip...one or multiple day trips.This summer I traveled rural areas of oregon, washington and Idaho. I figure I put on about 3,000 miles. My wife gets a little worried at times...I'm 70 but with a little technology and common sense, I try to stay in a safe place when camping. And like you, a one day/night trip is good for the soul!

I'm 71. Ride a 1200 Super Tenere. Love moto camping. Had a stroke in late August and my health regime would have never, never predicted such a thing. But, life happens. I've had one camping trip which was with friends. Planning on a single one-nighter. Hope that restores me. I think it will. Oh yes, buy yourself a hydro pack. Gives you plenty to drink while riding and for an overnighter more than enough.

Interesting. I have made 3 trips to the USA from Canada on motorcycle. Takes me 2 , 10 hr days driving with little stops and 1 night on a ferry to get to the boarder in Maine. Actually more like 12 hrs and more the first day. Love the trips to Maine , Boston , Mystic Seaport and the best is the White mountains in New Hampshire . You can add a another 6 trips by truck or Van to the white mountains .

Just found your channel and you ride down my old stomping grounds. Been all over the Klamath lived in horse creek and other end by iron gate. Let me know if you want any info. Covered Siskiyou and beyond milling lumber. Sadly I know many that lost their homes in the Mckinny and previous burns . Should be safe for awhile now. Hopefully forest service will change their tactics on suppression .

If they are started by human carelessness then they are preventable. If your house burned due to a careless human-caused fire would you chalk it up to a "natural" fire? I don't think so.

At age 55 while working a 6 month contract in the UK, I hankered to take an intensive motorcycle training course. I rang a training course in Blackpool to enquire. The guy on the phone literally laughed at my enquiry. "Oh, we often get enquiries from old people wanting a mid-life adventure". I was absolutely furious and slammed the phone down. To be honest, I felt shamed. It was probably one of the few times I had both the time and money to do what I'd dreamt of doing for years. Although British, I live in Portugal on the border with Spain. The most beautiful motoring countryside imaginable, on or off road. 8 years later, I so wish I hadn't allowed some ignorant jobs worth to undermine my self confidence. I'd always messed around on motorcycles as a kid and had a lifelong urge to get back on two wheels. Having a young family and a busy white collar job, had somehow always got in the way. And then somehow your life just flows by.

Hmm, I’m very interested in the one-nighter thing, but I have a mild disagreement with your opening because it is my experience that it takes basically as much gear for a one- as a multi-nighter. The “base” is the same, unless you plan to ride in late and out early, and thus skip meals and the gear required for them. Failing that, the only difference in load-out (IMO) is less food, water, and clothing for the shorter trip. I take some solace from this since it gives me confidence: if I can do a one-nighter, than I should be able to handle a multi-nighter just fine (haven’t done so yet!). If I’m wrong, I’d be happy to be corrected, because I don’t want to find out the hard way ;-).

Yes, the gear is mostly the same for one night or multi-nights. I didn’t mention in the video that sometimes I stay at a motel or cabin on one nighters and that eliminates my need for all the camping gear.

I just turned 70 last month and sold my BMW r1200 rt and bought a Vstrom. Buying a lighter adventure bike makes it a lot easier. I really like riding solo for the same reason that you do. I ride easy and stop often to see sights and read information signs. If you want a beautiful ride try BC Canada. Amazing back roads

61 years old in Israel. I find that I no longer feel like sleeping in a tent. I still really enjoy riding [KTM 1290 Adv S], but in the last two years I no longer dare to ride off-road alone. I admit - I'm scared: in my last fall I just couldn't pick up the motorcycle myself. I was lucky and I wasn't far from a main road and two guys in a truck stopped to help me.

I’m 52 (but been riding all my life since I was 14), and my wife comes with me pillion on my trips. In fact, in 2 weeks we are leaving to Marrocos for a 10 day 5000kms trip on the north of Africa, with 2 more couples our age. It’s important to feel safe in your riding before taking up the responsibility of taking a passenger with you, just my advice. It’s better to take long, multi days trips alone on the bike before. A pilling changes all the bikes dynamics and it’s not a good idea if your planning on going adventure touring off road. Off road it’s a all different situation, low traction environment that demand you’re able to stand on the pegs etc, and a pillion is a bad idea, even worst if you have no experience. My 2 cents: take a couple ou off road courses or try it your self on a small displacement bike (Like a Honda CRF 250/300L or sort of), and gain some experience. There’s nothing to be afraid and it’s amazing once you get the hand of it! Take it slow or else and expect to fall to the ground sometimes. Get good gear, like boots, jacket with good armor, gloves, a good helmet and go for it!

They grow back after a fire.Last time I went camping in the bush on my own I woke up in the nite by a strange load noise, Could have been a yowie [Big foot] as they have been sighted in that area, and some people have disappeared. I get nervous about solo camping now.
