Pretty sure it’s dangerous to “boil” water in the microwave by itself. Reason being that it enters a state called superheated cause, even though it passes the boiling temp of water, it never actually boils. Putting something in superheated water may cause it to pop and splash that scolding water everywhere.

Uh… microwaving water can be super dangerous. You can superheat the water and it will not appear to be boiling until you put something in the container (ie spoon, noodles, etc) at which point it will basically explode all over your hands with steam and boiling water. Yes, it can be done safely, but IMO it’s not worth the risk. Better to use a kettle or a pot. They don’t take much more time than microwaving the water and they’re MUCH safer. Steam burns are not to be trifled with.
