Looking forward to reading The Bone Ships, ordered myself a copy after I stumbled across it on Goodreads. Seen as you said you love sea faring books, have you read Saltblood by Francesca De Tores? I would definitely recommend, I found it resembled the Treasure Island story and Black Sails - a show that I watched a few years ago and that had similar characters in, mainly Captain Flint, Long John Silver (the show not the book), Billy Bones etc...

I just found this video as I am almost finished with book 2 and I am really enjoying the series. As you said, they do take a little while to get going, particularly the first one. But they are well worth the effort. I was initially off-put by the beginning of book one, but I had read a review by Robin Hobb herself that said that this is a fantasy world that you are just dropped into and just go with it, so I stuck with it and was well-rewarded. I can't wait to see how book 2 ends and start the last book in the trilogy. Loved the video.

A dragon chasing, seafaring book?? Sign me UP. 😍🙌🏻 You compared to Abercrombie, Liveship and to Skyward? All books I’ve loved so we know these are bound to pop up on my tbr.

Yes yes yes yes!! The first book is SO GOOD! I may pick this one up tonight actually. The Wounded Kingdom series is so good, especially when looked at as a full trilogy. Such character growth! So adventure!

You touched on this briefly when you mentioned that it is not a patriarchal society, but women are ranked by how many children they have. The queen is queen because she has the most children. Also, book suggestion for seafaring books: Seafire by Natalie C. Parker.
@DeadGoodBookReviews4 жыл бұрын
That is very true - but that being said they are being ranked *by* women so while it is still boiling rank down to reproductivity it's not the same as in some other situations. I did read Seafire (I think I might have had an audiobook at one point) but I really didn't get on with it alas!

I really enjoyed the first book, the second not so much. I'm currently reading it and I'm about to dnf it. Alot of it just didn't feel too different to the first one and didn't change much in general. It also felt more plot driven than the first one and I'm not a fan of plot driven books - especially not at the moment. The one thing that made me want to read it was you mentioning how emotional it would get, but so far I actually didn't care much (not even though the mutiny)... I'm just so uncertain, I want to love it so much😖 (currently 160 pages left but I'm quite a slow reader and I don't care for action scenes)

Ok my interest is piqued. Adding to my list. As if I needed to add more things lol Will I like Robin Hobb’s Liveship series if I strongly disliked the Farseer books due to being tedious, painfully slow, and not giving me dragons until the very end?
@DeadGoodBookReviews4 жыл бұрын
Hmmmm....I found the first one very bleak, but loved the characters (there are more POVS which I think would lift the tedium from the farseer books) and the dragons are likewise....delayed? I really like the audiobooks but I'd say if you didn't get on with her other books it might be a good reason to not pick up a massive trilogy XD
