In the original recording the word is actually GRÜẞE, German for GREETINGS, thrown in on the fly as a rhythm filler. Later, the concert fans singing along heard BRUCE, so live he just went with it. Joe Elliott (DEF LEPPARD) recently said Jeff Lynne is still killing it with that voice. Jeff is 76.

@robertkennedy541410 ай бұрын
@@jeffjackson8475 From the Wikipedia article. In the liner notes of the ELO compilation Flashback and elsewhere, Lynne has explained that he is singing a made-up word, "Groos", which some have suggested sounds like the German expression "Gruß", meaning "greeting." Lynne has explained that originally he did not realize the meaning of the syllable, and he just used it as a temporary placekeeper to fill a gap in the lyrics, but upon learning the German meaning he decided to leave it in. After the song's release, so many people had misinterpreted the word as "Bruce" that Lynne actually began to sing the word as "Bruce" for fun at live shows.

Vince had founded Depeche Mode but left after one album because he wanted to do happy synth pop but Dave Garman had darker ideas about what synth pop could do (as you have heard). The flying pickets did an acapella cover in which they sing all the synth lines (as well as the vocal lines).

Grooossss is a non sensical word Jeff filled in that section with. He just kept it in the final version of the song. Another happy tune from the boys, is the one they did with Olivia Newton John on vocals, the title track Off the Xanadu soundtrack. ELO had the entire 2nd half of the soundtrack. All Over the World in that same album from ELO is also a really happy fun tune that gets you up off the chair to dance to!!! Really even when the lyrics aren’t happy, ELO and Jeff Lynne tend to make them sound very happy!

So, so good, Don't Bring Me Down really finished off the '70s in style, amazing strong beat, a little disco flavor, and Jeff's over-modulated vocals were perfect. After all these years, I still listen to it, in fact I have it on my playlist on the rare occasion I still go jogging...

One of my ultimate ELO songs and an awesome reaction, Elizabeth. I'll be picturing you dancing in front of your kitchen window all day! Another ELO song that makes me insanely happy and want to dance is Hold on Tight - it's brilliant and just to mix it up a bit, it's partly in French! :)

I was just a kid back then, but this song is of the very essence of the 1970s in my mind.

What a woman you are Elizabeth reacting to the Electric Light Orchestra the band I've loved since the mid 1970s and my latest discovery Nightwish with Floor Jansen. The E.L.O. treasure chest is full to the brim with gems. Thank you. 🙏😊👍❤️

You deserve every happiness that comes to you because you bring so much to us!!!! I just love this song by ELO. It's a fun video too. Huey Lewis' "Power Of Love" always makes me happy. It doesn't hurt that it's from one of my favorite movies "Back To The Future!!!!" Duran Duran's "Hungry Like The Wolf" is also fun. We appreciate you and have a great day.😀

Power Of Love is another great one! New Found Glory did a pretty good cover of it as well, but you just can't top the original and the signature Huey Lewis sound!

A couple of really happy songs that come to mind, Doobie Brothers "Black Water", The O'Jays "I Love Music" or "Love Train", and I remember I worked in a factory on 2nd shift and Dion's "Run Around Sue" came on and everyone in the building was dancing and singing along.

I have a special place in my heart for ELO. We had a project we had to come up with for a dance performance class in college, and that was when flash mobs were just becoming a thing and around Christmas time we went to the largest mall in town and did it to All Over the World. It started with 4 people and ended with 50 and was easily one of the most fun and joyous things I have ever done in my life...and we got a grade for it too (a very good one)

Thanks for loving on ELO, means a lot to me; also thanks for making it ok for those of us who enjoy employing our falsettos extensively. Not anymore, but I long wondered if using it was cheating, just because its so easy for me, I figured it was easy for everyone, but perhaps not. Lastly, I think it would be impossible to not smile for Van Morrison's "Bright Side of the Road". Not sure there's a live version though; oh, and I'll finally 'sub' after all this time!

Ms. Zharoff, thank you for this reaction. I always look forward to your insightful and heartfelt reactions. I would also like to ask a favour of you. You have not looked at Angelina Jordan for some time now. She recently released a music vid of "UNCHAINED MELODY" at a Nobel Piece Prize event. I found it to be a moving and masterful interpretation. She was accompanied by the Kork ensemble in a wonderful acoustically intimate setting. The combination made me think of you, actually, and how this may well be right up your ally. I honestly would appreciate your always inspiring analysis, and I am certain her legion of fans would agree. I do apologize to all the ELO fans for making a comment not related to this wonderful group, but it's the only way I can see to making a request. Don't get me wrong all, Mr, Lynne is awesome!
