I have a few thoughts… I’m more keen to lean into the idea that Yui physically harmed Nol in the flashbacks, due to him always flinching away from her whenever she tries to touch him. Something I really like about ILY but especially in this episode is the composition. I love how visually cluttered the panels were for most of the episode. Like it represents Kousuke’s mental state. But after Nol claps, suddenly there’s a lot more empty space, everything feels a lot less suffocating. Like you said, Nol is fully in control and he knows it. Thank you as always for your analysis :) I admit I look forward to watching your video every week.

I agree. I am also thinking it's more likely that Yui was physically involved in whatever happened. Also yessss! I love how Quim composes her panels. You're absolutely right! There's clutter and chaos and disorganization, then Nol claps and he becomes the clear focus. You're so welcome! I'm really happy to know that you enjoy the videos :)

9:03 I actually didnt think that the dialogues of the party guests could be what Kousuke would think. And that reminded me of something. That actually has a name in psychology called "The Imaginary Audience" Its basically when your insecurities and Anxiety mix into one, your mind is imagining these fake dialogues and conversations that you think is happening or what the people around you are thinking of you. (Sorry if that didnt make sense, you can just search it up 😅) You have done an amazing job analysing this chapter, ofc Quimchee is an incredible artist when it comes to making metaphors, especially the colors. And you are a masterful on analysing these.

Oh, yes! I've heard of that before, and yup. He's so fixated on how others perceive him to the extent that he believes people are judging him much more harshly than they probably actually are, which just feed further into his own paranoia. Kousuke is honestly so fascinating from a psychological perspective. Thank you so much! I love analyzing Quim's work because she really is great with those small details. I feel like I always notice so much, but still feel like I'm missing so much haha she's just too good!

Throughout I love yoo Nol has constantly been said to have mental health issues that led him to do by things After this chapter I think now I finally see that (while I do think Nol had depression and some other problems definitely) I think the issues that are constantly pushed off on him are actually Kousukes mental health problems If he is the one who hurt Nol in the past he has a violent repressive streak, memory suppression that leads to overwhelming paranoia along with DEEP levels of anxiety. His memory suppression must play right into Yuis hand so she can make him believe he’s okay and he’s never hurt anyone (and that Nol hurt him). I really hope Kousuke seeks help for himself

I agree! Nol is the scapegoat. Kousuke's issues are constantly being projected onto him, which is really just sad for everyone involved. It's sad that Kousuke feels so much pressure to be the perfect son that he forces himself to repress any event that paints him as flawed. It's sad that Nol was made to feel insignificant, like a burden, like nothing... it's just a really sad situation, and I hope Kousuke does some serious self-reflecting and realizes how desperately he needs help.

My brain generates 10,000 theories and my last nerve cell just: DIETER GOT THE MONEY OH MY GOD /*looking at him in the background*/ It seems to me that there was some kind of tragedy in the Hirahara house, as a result of which Yui put all the blame on Nolan (someting like "it's your fault that this happened to your mom (or something) and for others she defenetly said it's "tragic accident". I immediately remember the scene from The Lion King when Scar blamed Simba for the death of Mufasa, even though Simba did nothing wrong. And Simba grew up with guilt, carrying it through his life. (In fact, a manipulative adult puts the blame on the child and the child begins to believe in it + memories most likely change over the years and since no one but two people knows the truth, the lie becomes the new truth) Thank you for your hard work! 💐
@himetsuki Жыл бұрын
Oh, yes! Agreed! I fully believe that a lot of Nol's self-loathing stems from Yui's manipulation. I think she has made Nol believe that he is to blame for something that he didn't do, and this is likely part of why he believes he needs to repent. Yui is the Scar of ILY lol You're very welcome! I'm loving this arc, so it's been super fun to discuss it hehe :3

Very great video. I loved all the symbolism that you pointed out in this chapter with Yui, Kousuke, and the red/blue colors. I knew the colos had some importance, but I wasn't sure what to make of them. I think you did a very good interpretation of the story elements used in this chapter.

@@himetsuki OH! I just reread episode 23 when Nol smacks Kousuke's hand away from him at the arcade and if it is true that Kousuke attacked Nol the night Nol was taken to the mental hospital, then that scene from episode 23 makes a lot of sense!
@himetsuki Жыл бұрын
@@wisteria4754 Yessss! That's such a good scene! It definitely lends itself to the idea that Kousuke was the instigator. I also feel like Yui being there and standing behind Kousuke just added to Nol's reaction that much more.

@@himetsuki Oh Yui's presence while Kousuke tries to reach out and touch Nol absolutely triggers Nol even more. Now that the story is really starting to become heavy and dark, I'm starting to reread the story and catch up on some details that I might have missed at first. You know a story is great when you can reread it again and again and you keep finding small details that really put the story together as a whole!

@@wisteria4754 Yesss! I agree! I have also been wanting to find the time to reread the series because I feel like there are probably so many little details that I've forgotten or sections that will make so much more sense with the perspective we have now! If only there were like 48 hours in a day instead of just 24 lol

First, while I went back through the episode to confirm what I was about to reference, I noticed a panel of a dog freezing right after taking a shit when it heard Nol maniacally laughing. The fact that Quimchee put this bit of comedy relief during a moment that is far from funny is ingenious. In fact, this facetiousness is one of the many things about this webtoon that I enjoy; such as Shin-Ae insulting everyone after she was drugged at the fancy party. Now, what I wanted to reference is how bored Soushi looks amidst all this chaos, which is a complete contrast to how he usually is. I am guessing that seeing the drama that has occurred with Nol, as well Shin-Ae, has kind of blown the humor out of him. I was hoping that he and Rika would have a moment. Mina's reaction to hearing about it snowing and how Maya and Rika dive bomb the "stage" to take over the karaoke was hysterical. And in regards to the dogs pooping, I would recommend Mina tears out the carpet. That smell will never come out.

YES! I love Quim's humor hahaha I'm so glad we're in a setting where she's able to let her humor shine through :) That's a good point about Soushi as well! Also yes haha Mina's reaction to snow is so relatable, and I agree. It is not easy to remove animal smells from carpet. Good luck, Mina XD

Well done, as always. I can't blame you for analyzing each episode, because each part was so chock full of interesting details, symbols, and clues. For 210, I'd said: Nol's not fine. Something about his collar? What about all that splintered wood, too? What if he's impaled, but has so much adrenaline going that he doesn't feel it?? Nol has had at different times Christian symbology surrounding him. Now he literally lands on a cross, his back probably a mess from glass and splinters, and his feet! EEK! Speaking of Christian symbology, I wonder if Yui looking down at you Kousuke in the flashback was meant to be a mirror image of Madonna and Child? I'm not Catholic, but yikes! 😱 Something about this unlocked that traumatic flashback for Kousuke. We in Discord aren't sure what's up with Yui's hand. We're guessing all kinds of things. Did she slap someone full force, with her whole body, and all of her hatred behind it? Did she squeeze, that is, strangle someone, like Nessa? Could she have possibly even struck Kousuke in the dark, so Nol would be blamed and taken away? The possibilities are tantalizing! 😈😂 And then I thought for a bit, and said: WAIT! Yui's hands aren't bruised or busted. They're Burned! I thought the lone fire truck was EMTs responding, but...a fire?? In another flashback, we see what looks like black smoke wafting around. Plus, the sky is red. Hmm... Before the speech bubbles were added, I'd said: There's also something about Sim-Han's response to the shattering glass. Quimchee zoomed on his face for a reason, and I don't think it had anything to do with that particular moment. Maybe it's a trigger of some kind for him? What do you guys think? (Personally, I don't think it was the fall, but the breaking glass. I think Sim-Han was having his own traumatic flashback. In Discord we thought it might have to do with losing both parents at a young age. We're not told why, so we're thinking car accident via a drunk driver). Anyway, last but definitely not least, Nol, laughing like Joker...eek! 😱 Fun stuff! See you next week! 😉😛
@himetsuki Жыл бұрын
Yup! I'm with you there. I think Nol is definitely more injured than he realizes. You also make some great points about Christian symbology! Thank you for pointing those out! Also, yesss! That's a really good point about Yui's hand. It looks to be either scratched up or, like you said, burned. I am so, so, SO curious to know the specifics of how everything occurred that night. What was Yui's role in all of this? What did she do? That also could be the case with Sim-Han. It certainly could have been the broken glass triggering a traumatic memory for him. I hope we'll get to explore that a little bit in future chapters because it was an interesting detail for sure. I am living for Nol's attitude in these chapters lol he's just so cheeky. I love it. See you next week :D
