There are so many elements that make this scene beautiful- Zero Two being so geuninly happy when confessing her love to Hiro, Hiro's jovial expression and his own confession of love towards Zero Two, the new Red Strelitzia shedding tears of joy, Icihgo's acceptance and happiness for Hiro and Zero Two...AND THAT AMAZING THEME SONG!!!!!!! There are good animes, there are amazing animes...and there are animes that are so beyond superb, even if they have flaws, that they earn a place in our hearts forever. Darling in the Franxx is definetly an anime that I will remember forever, because...I have found it to be truely profoundly beautiful!!!!! :'D

To answer the questions some of you may be having: yes this was mental sex We've been shown that the pilots meld minds when they're super emotional. Hiro and Zero Two just "officially" reunited for the first time since childhood (her walls are finally down and he has all his memories back), he just kissed her. They melded minds and all they saw was 100% love for each other. That happiness on both sides was probably borderline orgasmic and boosted Strelizia to the point where it solo'd an entire klax army. Crowrowrow To be fair, I can see both sides of the debate fairly clearly. Yes, 02 did some pretty terrible things to Hiro and Ichigo's reaction up to a certain point is entirely reasonable. The only ones who had any idea of what was going on following episode 13 where Hiro and 02, the others were in the dark regarding what happened between them during episode 13 so up to that point, they only knew that 02 was hurting Hiro. This is the foundation of the argument that everyone screwed up in some way during episode 14, 02 and Hiro choosing to not tell the others about their memories, Squad 13 for becoming too protective of Hiro, Ichigo for letting her feelings for Hiro cloud her judgment and forcefully separating them in spite of their respective wishes. We as the audience have access to the information that the squad doesn't so it's easier for us to sympathize with 02 because we know she's been through some serious shit and is currently dealing with her own problems. Like I said, everyone screwed up in episode 14, but the part that had everyone going apeshit was the part where Ichigo tried to prevent Hiro from going after 02 and then forcing her feelings onto him with her confession and kiss whilst also declaring that she would go out of her way to help him pilot with her which ends up throwing Goro who is a universal fan favorite for best boi under the bus, we all know what happens to the "useless" parasites. In addition, her attempts to keep Hiro and 02 apart lead to Hiro's escape at the wrong time which caused 02, who we already know is in an extremely volatile mental and emotional state, to snap and turn on Squad 13. This to a lot of fans was basically episode 14's version of giving us the middle finger after the heart-wrenching moments of episode 13 and thus everyone lost their minds. Hope this explanation helps.

Honestly, they just can't seem to accept a wonderful love story between Zero Two (kind of wish her nick name wasn't a number, Hiro fix this at some point please?) and Hiro. I'm not even sure why they still bother trying to ship the childhood friend with the MC, it almost never works (wait, what do you mean the childhood friend/crush is winning? dafuq? oh yeah, 02 and Hiro are technically childhood friends, yay, childhood friend wins against childhood friend... awkward). They should just learn to take the L, and accept it in a calm, peaceful manner like us 02 fans (what do you mean there were swarms of 02 fans hunting down the Ichigo fans like 28 days later? what mass mobilization of tanks?
