15th. Very narrow, well guarded approach. Tough hole to go for from that far back. I know I wouldn't try it. It might be worth trying to lay up short of the bunkers, then hit a half or 3/4 swing wedge onto the green. If you haven't got that shot in your arsenal yet, it might be worth adding it to your practice and lesson to-do list. Half to 3/4 swing wedge from 40-50 yards or so. Very useful tool for breaking 100 or 90. Really helped me when I learned it. I like it much better than trying to hit a full swing sand or lob wedge from 20 yards further back. Anyway, just a suggestion from someone who's been there. You'll know what to do.
@chrismorphet5466Ай бұрын
Like your honest video. Have you ever thought about hitting your 5 wood off the tee as you say you hit it further than your 3 wood or driver and its a club you clearly love. Also think about teeing the ball up at the right hand side off the tee as you fade the ball. it will give you a lot more room down the fairway.
@gmpn0r12stwitch53 ай бұрын
I used to have my putts really short, then I changed from a blade putter to a mallet putter. The additional mass will give the additional distance to your putts. Then you use the same putting swing that you have now. Do not consciously think since the putter is now heavier and slowing down your putting swing. And I would suggest teeing off with your fairway woods/hybrids. You seem to get the same distance with them but somewhat straighter shot instead of the slice from the driver.

Oh, yeah, you can totally do this. Sounds like you have the right idea. Work on the short game. You've got that lesson coming. I'm sure you'll get good stuff to practice out of it. And you know you need to put in the time. You said so yourself in this video. I found myself when I was pushing to try and break 100, then 90, that short game practice was absolutely key. I'd spend more time on the putting green and around the pitching/chipping/sand game area than I did on the range with a bucket of balls working on my full swing. And I always practiced at least as often as I played, and that doesn't count the warmups before rounds. I was always a fair putter, and built that into a strength. Then I added pitching, chipping, part swing wedges, even a bit of sand game (never a strength). Without all that, I would never have broken 100. You know what. I bet you get there before I get back there. With this elbow of mine, I probably won't play again for a month or more. Based on how bad I was in my first two rounds this year, it'll take some practice and a couple of runs at it before I get back under 100. It probably will not happen until August some time, maybe later if this elbow takes awhile. I bet you get there first. Go get it!

Good video, you played the par 3s in particular very well. You just need to give yourself more space on your chips as your club is basically sat on your lap so your hands have nowhere to move so you aren't able to close the club face in time, so you end up blading and thinning them. Keep going and best wishes.

Work on your turn! Swing is all arms and hands and its likely why all your balls are decently struck but leak right of target.. if you get hip and shoulders turning too, the club face will square up and you will see solid improvement in distance and accuracy. Good luck!

On the green in regulation on that long monster 13th? What was that club? Was that your beloved 5 wood, or was it the 3?
@seanbaines3 ай бұрын
Ah! It was the 5. Not the 3. I figured it would be. Gotta be honest. I think you hit your 5 better than your 3, and at your swing speed, that's totally expected! I don't carry a 3 myself. I carry a 4 and a 7, and with my slower senior swing speed now coming back to the game at 63 after 13 years off, I'm thinking I need to swap that 4 out for a 5. Once my elbow heals, (hurt myself on my 2nd full 18 back, dammit!), I'll be doing some trials on 4 vs 5. I bet I hit the 5 off the ground as well as the 4, maybe better, despite 2 degrees more loft. I really think I'll hit it higher and get more carry at my swing speed.

@@aliawghgolf Well, we're fellow travellers. I've been there. I did finally manage to succeed in breaking 100, then breaking 90 and even scaring 80. But I took a break from golf and now, coming back to it after 13 years in my early senior years, I'll probably be challenged to get back to my old scoring levels right away. So I'm enjoying watching what you do. I can relate. I've done it, and I may have to do it again. We'll find out when my elbow heals.

A bogey on that ridonkulously long 13th hole?!? Really good golf. That hole is long even for white members tees. It's long enough for blue championship tees. My home course doesn't have a par 5 that long off the whites. You flat out stole at least a stroke from the course there!
@seanbaines3 ай бұрын
Re the 9th hole. There is NOTHING wrong with hitting driver for a 160 yard par 3 from the forward tees!!!!! That's what the forward tees are for. People who don't hit that long. (Frankly, 160 yards is quite a long par 3 from the forward tees, even downhill. Big downhill shots like that can actually be quite difficult to judge, and don't make shots that much easier. That shouldn't be the 17 handicap hole IMO, That's a tough front 9 you are playing there!) And for a woman who is a 26 handicapper and hasn't really played a lot of golf, 160 yards with a driver is perfectly respectable, even downhill. Don't get fooled by all those female golf influencers out there pounding out 240 yard drives. Most of them are Ex US University golfers who play to low handicaps or scratch. Some are ex tournament pros. Don't worry if you don't hit as long as them. And your social media critics shouldn't expect you to hit as long as them. If they do, they know very little about golf, frankly. You are doing fine. Tighten up the putting and short game somewhat (you have a lesson coming), get a little more consistent contact to reduce the ragged shots in number, and continue to learn course management from experience, and you'll break 100 no problem, and go on to break 90 in time. Your general strategic approach is pretty good. Take all this from someone who has been in your shoes, and DID learn to break 100 - and 90 - while being quite short hitting for a male golfer. YOU CAN DO THIS!
@seanbaines3 ай бұрын
Addendum. Well, you proved Driver is the right play there for you by how you managed that shot in the wind! Brilliant.

Please explain how you are a 26 handicap with out ever having broke 100? 72 + 26= 98
@seanbaines3 ай бұрын
Handicap not based on your average score. It is based on the top 8 of your last 20 scores. So you only actually shoot to your handicap 1 round in 5 that way. Also, the handicapping system adjusts hole scores to a maximum of net double bogey. So some of her worst hole scores will be adjusted down a stroke or two. That makes shooting to your handicap even rarer. Finally, I think that's a pretty tough home course she plays. The course rating and slope are probably pretty high.
@chrisgeorge1413 ай бұрын
@@seanbaines follow up questions: Even factoring slope, wouldn't having a handicap that reflects a 98 lead one to believe she would have at some point broken 100? Also, why not just play a course that has an even slope?
@seanbaines3 ай бұрын
@@chrisgeorge141 Well, if you read her comments, and follow some other videos, she says she has broken 100 a few times. But she's having a real block right now, her scores are getting worse, and her handicap is starting to drift up. It was 25 a while back.
@seanbaines3 ай бұрын
@@chrisgeorge141 Also, sometimes the course available is the course available. She may be in a district where there are tough courses. Her home course is a tough setup. That opening hole is just short of 400 yards off the forward tees. They call it a par 4. But several holes along, they have two par 5's that are just a handful of yards longer. I've seen a lot of courses, and Red tees par 5 distances in the low 400's are pretty usual. That 397 yard par 4 should either be shortened to about 375 off the reds, or lengthened to about 405 and played as a 5, IMO. There are other examples. That's a tough course! But if that's what's close to her, and convenient enough to play, what's she going to do? Eventually get good, presumably. :)

Okay, first time I've seen your video and just subscribed. I was a 28 handicap and now a 14. If I could point something out, because I suffered from the same problem. All of your swings are outside to in. Meaning your club head is swinging from outside of the ball to just inside the ball. Look at your divots. Most are aiming to the left. Maybe take a lesson to try and correct that. Also, use your pitching wedge for your chip shots and imagine tossing the ball 2/3rds of the way to the cup with a putting stroke. That's enough mansplaining 😊 Keep up the good work and keep that positive attitude. You'll get there!
@handdle-h2o3 ай бұрын
I have not watched entire video yet but one concept you might want to try, just for kicks, is use 3 or 4 clubs. Tee off with that 5 wood which will probably be your second shot too. Then depending on yardage use another club(iron) you are most comfprtable using by then you will either be on the green or some place that you can either chip or put. A 350 yeard par4/5 is 3 shots of about 115-20 yards so should be on in 3, then 2 puts for a bogey one put par. A 72 par with 18 over gets you a 90 and you'll have 10 strokes to play with. Love your attitude and hope you are soon to be shooting in the 80's as your swing is pretty sweet. The 3 or 4 club concept also lends itself to a lighter bag

The golf swing is like walking in place and swinging your arms together in balance, while turning back and forth, like a metronome. A simple dance move that should feel natural and rhythmic. Don't short arm your practice swing, do the full swing to the finish in your practice swing as it is the preview to the full swing. Don't cut it short, unless you actually want to hit a punch short. talking negative or positive is not good, as that is left brain, and golf is mostly right brain, visualization, and hind brain, or our reptile brain, also called the reactive. It doesn't think in the way thinking is thought of that is cognitive reflexive thought. Also, they are fairway woods for a reason, and you concept of chipping is backwards as it mostly knees and turning with hands and arms reacting to the movement. Good luck.
