Look, Gareth Southgate isn't for everyone but the evidence that he has progressed the England national team massively in his 8 years in charge is irrefutable. More importantly, he has also made everybody interested again. From 1966-2017 we reached 1 Semi-final and zero finals. Since 2017 we have reached two finals, a semi-final and a Quarter-Final. In this Tournament alone... 95th minute overhead kick equalisers. 95th minute winners in a Semi-final. 5 perfect penalty kicks in a shootout. Winning three knockout matches in a row coming from behind. England teams have never done these things before. They've found a new tenacity and grit to get over the line and find a way to get the job done without playing near our best. Previous England teams never had that and would fold and crumble away. It feels like something special is happening and It's just 1 more step to go.

It's rare for club teams/national teams to win major competitions at the first attempt. Hopefully, the experience of 2020 will result in a victory on Sunday night. @adrodog I agree it wasn't a penalty but foden hit the post, had a shot cleared off the line, sakas offside goal was very tight and Ollie Watkins goal was sensational so on balance we deserved to win the game, Switzerland we rode our luck and finally managed to take 5 great penalties, Slovakia we were saved by a magical goal and probably deserved to go out, believe me I don't think we stand a chance against Spain but France won the 2018 world cup after playing bang average all tournament and Portugal won Euro 2016 after playing terrible the whole tournament so who knows we may grind it out, the only time in this tournament we have played well is the first half against the dutch. Normally when we are favourites we choke so being underdogs may help us, who knows!!
