Following the successes in international tournaments of Moscow (1925) and Moscow (1935), Nikolai Vasilyevich Krylenko again sought to stun the chess world and the Soviet Union with a third international event between Soviet masters and their foreign counterparts. This time, however, he conceived of a more rigorous format, with the ten players (five Soviets and five foreigners) in a double round robin competition. The lineup was impressive, with Capablanca and Lasker being invited back a third time to compete in Moscow, in addition to the previous year's winners, Botvinnik and Flohr. The tournament was held in Moscow's famous Hall of Columns from May 14 to June 8. Capablanca's near flawless accuracy and superiority in the endgame proved to be instrumental in winning first prize by a full point over the future world champion Botvinnik. Lasker, who had always finished ahead of his successor to the crown in prior tournaments, started out strongly, but at 67 years of age he became fatigued more easily and his performance suffered during the second cycle. The tournament brought immense excitement and interest, both to the citizens of the Soviet Union and to the greater world at large. Capablanca's first place was to be one of the last successes against the Soviet Chess School before the triumph of Robert James Fischer 36 years later. It was also the last hurrah for Krylenko, the founder and organizer of the tournament. He was arrested in January 1938, tried and executed later that year.

I REALLY enjoyed this game, Antonio. It was astounding to see Capablanca recover from such a penned in position and see each of the last 20 moves incrementally tighten the noose. It would have been amazing to see a Capablanca v Karpov match (although based on comments about the 2016 championship, many people might find nearly flawless chess too boring).

The next year, 1937, in the Semmering-Baden International Tournament, Capa played again the white pieces against Ragozin, and in a equal middlegame launched a fierce attack against Ragozin´s king and reached a won position, but in time-trouble blunders and Ragozin drew the game.

All experienced players know that winning pawns is the bread and butter of chess. Yes, you must apply caution and on many occasions not rush to catch them. There are many examples of Carlsen not winning the pawn immediately when you thought he would. But there are a glutton of examples in chess where winning pawns proves decisive. And a large chunk even at the highest level.

Hello agadmator, I always hear you speak about how beautiful these chess games are and I know you're a huge fan of Mikhail Tal, but I have a hard time understanding the poetry behind some of these chess moves. I know I have a long way to go to becoming a master of chess, but I have a passion for the game and I want to learn as much as I can about the game and its history. I just wish I could learn how to distinguish between a beautiful chess game and an ugly one if you can help me.

Chess engines are really accurate in calculating endgames. While I've said it before, and I still agree, the human interpretation of the game is fun part that I watch for. It would be interesting to know what stockfish rates the game when they resign. I'd be an interesting quality of the human players. Do they resign when their opponent is up 1 or 2 points? Or do they wait until stockfish finds a forced mate? Holding on to the VERY end. Awesome video always, thanks mate!

9:36 king to d5 if knight to b5 king to c4 . if the rooks are exchanged white knight can't move from a7 due to the bishop and black king would pick up to a and b pawn because it is way closer. why not instead of e7?
@faznaz7455
@faznaz7455 6 жыл бұрын
ali veli The idea is not exchanging rooks but instead exchanging minor pieces. Too many black pawns get on the chop. After Kc4, Rxd7 Kxb5 Rxf7, (if Rxa3 then Rxc7) and if white king gets active then Black is lost. Kingside pawns will be too much. Edit continuing the line after Rxf7 if g6then Rf6, if g5 fxg5 hxg5 Rf5 wins.

Rey Rider Its a rule, the best way to think of it is like this. c7 pawn jumped to c5 right? but as this happened he had to at some point in time walk over c6. The white pawn on b5 was always looking at c6. so after c7 to c5 white either captures it enroute or forfeit the chance to do so if not done as a inmediate reply to c7 c5. Hope that help.
