This is a really funny coincidence, but your video was recommended to me as I am considering home school and watching content about it. One thing that I can’t stop thinking about and totally blew my mind, is how I thought I had a good public school experience, yet when I reflected on it I realized as the well-behaved quiet kid, I was completely ignored and teachers didn’t catch some major reading comprehension issues I had. So I appreciate you affirming that the “good kids” have it bad in public school too! And also, I was thinking about how everything is a resource, and home life skills you could create endless scenarios around, such as what if your fridge breaks, what steps from start to finish do you need to take to deal with the situation… preserving the food, calling a handyman, evaluating repair vs replace, budgeting for a new one, finding one online that fits the correct dimensions, filing a claim if you are a renter, etc. You mentioning your fridge breaking totally stopped my in my tracks and I’ll take this as a sign 😂 thanks for your video!

Ha! Love it! Yeah, life skills are one of those things that aren't being taught in schools (home ec) or even at home anymore. Parents are so busy shuttling their kids from one activity to the next or overwhelmed with homework (or parents with their work!) that there's just no time to teach it. So, being able to homeschool and incorporate those daily or even occasional tasks in their education is a bonus.

I initially went to college to be a French teacher but then found out I wasn't as good in French as I thought 😂. So I majored in theatre. But during college I kept clicking with new friends only to discover they'd been homeschooled. Over and over! It made me realize I like the kind of adult that homeschooling produces. So then I researched homeschooling and the customization and I fell in love. Meanwhile I had friends who were teachers and saw how awful the school system is (mainly the administration/state standards etc) and yeah, I homeschool my kids. But it makes me sad when teachers/schools think I'm antagonistic with them. I really think I have the personality and interests of a teacher, I AM a teacher, but I just saw that homeschooling is way better than dealing with the headache of regular schools lol.

There are definitely some teachers out there who find it appalling that anyone can educate their kids when they have to go through years of schooling, testing, and training to become a teacher. But I feel like the majority of educators that I know love the idea of homeschooling and wish they could have a flexible and fun classroom that didn't have to deal with many disruptions. They also know that most homeschool parents will do their research and give their children the best education they can. I mean, we have SOOOOO much information at the tips of our fingers. And you're right, you ARE a teacher. We humans are all naturally teachers and learners. I think those complainers are just really loud, and we unfortunately hear them because of our negativity bias.

I’m a teacher. This year they had to go to public but we will be homeschooling full time soon ❤ We’ve been fun schooling and follow interests and reinforcing. I think it’s great for kids but especially for special needs kids

Glad you get it! I thought I was being rather clever when I made that comparison 😆 But homeschooling really is like the startup version of school-lots of flexibility, a bit of chaos (at least in the beginning 😉), and a whole lot of learning as we go. Thanks for watching!

I’m a teacher as well and I homeschool for a custom education for my kids!!! I love that now I’m travelling with a sports community we are able to learn more about the ocean while we are travelling!!! My older kids surf daily!!! I don’t miss homework especially seeing there is no need for it!!! As a teaching student I had to write a reflection journal and one day I said I couldn’t teach cos of the kids!!! I love that we can do bookwork on the plane!!! I remember checking the safety of ppl all the time and it was needed but a lot of work and now we don’t need to because we are homeschooling!!! I love that we can schedule field trips around my work travel schedules!!! I struggled with getting to school on time as a teacher as well!!! I found myself working with the kids who struggle the most as a teacher!!! My teens love to study when I have at home work as I’m the company’s travel agent!!! Homeschool takes us 2 hrs a day!!! I’ve been hearing that school is to produce workers!!! I remember as a teacher one day I was off and my kids were at school and my stepdad took them and it was awesome!!! Even tho I work and homeschool we have a slower pace of life!!!
