Well it's not fragmented by metal cones . It was built to do that but it doesn't explode like that (though it does create more fragments on explosion). Still design remains in use cause it indeed provides better grip and makes it easier to booby trap things - it is easier to tie pineapple shaped grenade to a tree or a stick than round one.

The pineapple "look" on the grenade is not for grip. They are indentations in the metal that when it explodes act as weaknesses and the fragments burst out away from the grenade as shrapnel. Hence the name fragmentation grenade. Frag Grenade.

NGL, time travel stories bug the shit out of me because that isn't how Time works. It's not a dimension. Any instances of Time Travel are alternate realities. Time as a dimension is just an approximation of significant convenience for math because it works very well to model things. Time is really more Rate of Entropy. More like a Force. One moment to the next is a matter of rate and trajectory, one configuration to another. If everything is really infinite, even if bounded, what you have is everything layered on top of each other. Stacked infinities. Or rather, expressions of probability witnessed at a local Rate. In this sense, future sight, is in theory perfectly believable. Time travel is not.

The M67 is round. It's most likely russian F1 grenade. It's very common. The pattern is for grip

They did not specify the type of grenade but the American "pineapple" grenade and the Russian F1 grenade which is based on the French F1 grenade are textured so that when they explode they shoot metal fragments everywhere. The goal is to greatly wound as many enemies as possible in the blast radius. Grenades are not textured for grip.
