Girl you do 1000 steps on wash day. You are going to get tired of any style because your wash days are lonnngggg. I love watching your videos, because you are one of the few naturalistas that give us lengthy content. And I love you for that 😍. But it’s confusing because your hair is freshly grown out from a TWA, it’s not color processed, you don’t use direct heat, and you get professional trims. Yet you take care of your hair like you are trying to repair it from something . It’s literally healthy asf on its own love. My wash days are shampoo, moisturize, and style . Once a month I do a protein treatment and deep condition if I feel like it . My hair is still doing just fine with my 3 step wash day. Try it for a month. I would love to hear your opinion on it.

Sameeeeee! I can't do more than I want to because I just do not have it in me. My wash-day wash-n-gos don't take long because I'm lazy, hahaha! My wash-and-gos are the fastest styles. Also I understand the struggle with detangling. I've changed my detangling methods (because again, I'm lazy lol) and don't want to devote more than 10 minutes to detangling.

I do wash and goes every seven days. And I get tired sometimes of doing my hair. Sometimes life is just too busy and we need Breaks which is why sometimes I protective style. Wash n gos are my signature look and favorite style but Wash n goes aren’t for everybody. They can be a lot of work for us thick hair naturals. Luckily, we have the most versatile hair type and can style our hair in lots of different other kinds of ways. We don’t all have to wear wash n gos. Find a style that suits you and fits your life style

@@zacharydrake156The shingling method seems to me to be long and tedious. A KZbinr named Ms. Rachel Adina did both the shingling method and the raking method. I prefer the definition gotten from the raking method. She has type 4b hair. She's the only type 4 person I've seen do the raking method. Mostly type 3 people do that method. While type 4 people seem to prefer the shingle method. The raking method seems to me to be much quicker and easier to do plus the definition is superb especially if you use enough products while doing it.

You know what I love about your vibe? Your tone and the way you speak almost make it seem like we’re listening to someone’s journal about their hair journey. There’s parts you resonate with, parts you don’t, but it’s all genuine and authentic no matter how you spin it. It’s rare to exude that on YT these days. Edit - 10:43 you literally SAID IT! 😂

The suns heat isn’t what damages our hair it’s the ultraviolet rays that the sun is emitting. Those rays are what’s damaging to not only our hair but our skin as well. A hooded dryer or diffuser will not emit ultraviolet rays so it will not damage the hair or skin in the same way the sun would! And as for direct and indirect heat I like to think of it as hovering your hand over a pan/skillet to see if it’s warm (indirect heat)vs touching the palm of your hand to the pan to check (direct heat)❤

The longer my hair got, the less defined my wash and gos were. I would find myself looking at old pictures of how bomb they were and get discouraged. However, stretched styles have been great for me this past year and some change. Two braids or a banded ponytail has my hair thriving! Now I just do wash and gos every once in a while.

I hear you!!! I had to do a complete re-think as my hair grew. Like you….I was totally a WnG girl. The only thing that saved me was adopting the Anthony Dickey method. Fairy knots disappeared immediately. Detangling happened nearly on its own and I was SO HAPPY!!! Then came Winter and no more WnG!! I haven’t seen my natural hair “out” since November. I’ve been putting my hair in twists or braids under head wraps and I only do a complete wash day every 14 days. I will revisit WnG when Late Spring/Summer comes along. But right now….My strands and I are on Vacation!! I’ll be watching for your vlogs!!!
@ClearAbyss
@ClearAbyss 6 ай бұрын
Me too! Wash and gos only last like 3 days in winter because of how dry the air is where I am. But in summer it gets humid enough where my hair doesn’t dry and tangle so fast. Like you I’ve started sticking mostly to braids, twists, or straightening in fall/winter, and wash and gos for spring/summer. Also, I’ve kind of ditched combs and detangling brushes. I usually finger detangle now and sometimes “check my work” with a brush or comb if I feel the need to or I’m planning on straightening it.
@alisameireis3628
@alisameireis3628 6 ай бұрын
@@ClearAbyss Yep!!! I have ditched denman brushes, etc, too!! I finger detangle and use a small tooth comb to ‘check myself’ at the end of applying leave-in. Last Spring/Summer, my WnG is fabulous….but now my hair has really grown and it’s no longer an Afro and even shrinkage doesn’t get it “up there”, if you know what I mean….It hangs down and out. So, I realize that my WnG is no longer going to be an actual curly-coily Afro. It’s going to be a different more elongated look this Spring and Summer….and I’m not sure I’m ready for that! I was really rocking my big Afro hanging below my neck last Summer. 🤣 Now my braids are hanging past my shoulders and my hair is thick on top of that…so, yet another adjustment will have to be made when it warms up. But regardless, I will “Water Wash” every 2 days with a full Wash Day w/deep conditioner on the 7th day. Of that, I’m sure!! Keeps my strands hydrated and detangled!! Glad to know I’m not the only one dealing with Seasonal changes!! 🥰❤️

This is one reason I decided to chop my hair and choose to keep it short and rock my gray. It's so freeing! Love wash and go, but it's much easier because it's short. So many are caught up in having longer hair, but i love a short, well maintained cut to display a lovely face and bone structure to full advantage! 😊 I've gotten more compliments on it now than when it was longer and black! Thank you for your transparency. Do whatever you feel like with your hair and rock it with confidence!

Mini twists...or twists that are not too big, not too small that you can leave in for a few days always work too. For the fall/winter seasons this is usually my go to style. I mainly do WnGs during the warmer months. The twists help with retaining length and since they're a low manipulation type style they help with hair growth as well. I also can pin them up or pull them back or up into different styles.

Can you consult with Brianna on how to pare down your routine? I don't ask because I think you should stick with it but you admit that you do alot. I really believe you can do less and be satisfied with your results and experience. That being said, I think it's pretty normal every couple of years to want to change our hairstyles in general. While I'm primarily a twist out girl, I'm seriously considering going back to being a straight natural. I didn't have a solid goal in mind when starting this journey other than to restore health back to my hair. I believe I've accomplished that and I'm trying to put all the pieces of the puzzle together for what's next. With all the variables I'm considering, straight natural seems like the best option.

Change is a good thing! I think we were smitten by the fact that our hair was actually curly. However, in maintaining the curls involved a lot of other variables such as finding the right shampoos, conditioners and stylers. When all the stars are aligned, we rock wash and goes. WNGs made me fall in love with my REAL hair!Although I am not a hair stylist, I found myself obsessed in perfecting it to the best of my ability. I wanted to do my own hair without spending hours in a salon! Learning WNGs let me know that I have an alternate style. So if I want to go to a salon, so be it especially if I want a different look which can be natural or straight! I appreciate your informative videos! Thanks and keep us posted!

Ahh! Thanks for being so transparent. All those steps do seem like a lot of work tbh 😬. I’m really lazy when it comes to my hair so I don’t wanna do too much, but I want to grow long hair. I wash once a week and wear twists (not mini-lazy I said!) and pin them up into like an updo, or just pin up the front to frame my face. Or wear a little beanie on the back. Also, I have about 9 months of growth. My hair is this short and I still don’t wanna put the time in for a gorgeous wash and go lol. And my strands are fine. But I have high density so tangling/ssk are inevitable with wash and gos and I don’t like that 🥴

What you’re feeling is totally valid. But remain truthful to yourself and what you feel. I feel like a lot of naturals are going through this. I went through this a year ago, bc my hair wasn’t matching my lifestyle. I am an engineer and I live in the UK where it’s cold and rainy most of the time. A year ago I realised that I might need to be a “straight” natural. I wash my hair weekly, a blow dry it and I put it in flat twists for the week. It’s been working for me so far. My texture has loosened a bit bc of the heat, but I don’t mind that. Bc I am retaining length and most of all I am enjoying my hair bc I don’t see it has a chore or as something that will take a lot of my time, or something that I need to have a major logistics strategy behind it. It became easier… So I say, DO WHATEVER IS BEST FOR YOU AT THE MOMENT. And If then you are at a point where wash and gos are the way to go, do them! That’s life!

My wash and gos were the most difficult when my hair had layers. Now that the layers have grown out and my hair is pretty much all one length it’s much easier. I don’t use all natural products- the redken acidic bonding shampoo and conditioner are amazing and now it just takes me 1hr to wash, detangle and style my hair in the shower. I use a gel and mousse (sometimes) to style and that’s it. I will say twists are one of my favs to do but it takes me what seems like foreveerr! Have fun trying other styles!

That Redken acidic bonding conditioner is magic. I’ve never had a conditioner that makes detangling that easy. I just started using the matching shampoo but I have already been through a salon size of conditioner and working on a second. 😂

Honest question. Do you really feel like you need all of the different treatments? I think your hair is healthy enough to just do a shampoo condition/deep condition and style without the extra bond treatments. I know when I was ‘doing the most’ with my hair it exhausted me and made my natural hair feel like a job. Maybe that’s what you’re experiencing. I know this is strictly my opinion and I’m not telling you what to do with your hair, but I’ve been where you are and I understand. I also got tired of wash and gos awhile back started doing stretched twist outs occasional flat irons. It’s your hair do what you please 😊 but regardless of the style I definitely cut back on the extra steps and my hair and life are thanking me for it 😊

I was thinking the same thing. I don’t do the Anthony Dickey method but one thing I learned while watching his videos is that I don’t have to apply my styler in sections. I tried applying my gel in two large sections and my hair came out exactly the same as when I was doing all those smaller sections. My mind was 🤯 I have to say though my hair is not as dense as hers. Now I wash, deep condition for about 5 mins, add my leave-in and styler in two big sections and I’m done. I’m not saying this is the case with her, but doing too much will tire you out for sure.

I'm also getting tired of my hair after being natural for 4 years, detangling is the worst. I find doing two-strand twist outs on damp hair with a mousse & cream to be my default lately. Love the Mielle Pom & Honey mousse for twist outs!

I’ve been natural for 10 years. And I hated detangling too. What I did was use my pre-poo session to detangle. My scalp was an itchy mess. So came up with this whipped coconut oil concoction to detangle with because oil keeps my hair stretched. I also did this overnight so that I could get a hot oil treatment as well. Then I would shampoo in the morning. This way, my wash day is broken up. Also, there is nothing wrong with trying different styles. I wear mini twists and wearable (med size twists) all the time. Especially during winter. Like now. I have some twists with a beenie. I keep the twists in for two to three weeks then have a bomb twist out. You and your hair get a rest. It’s ok to change. Do what works for you. I love doing my hair. Even ten years later. Hope this helps!

try finger coils, its a semi-protective style that can be done through a typical wash n go routine. you can “twist-out” the coils like a two strand at the end of the week to unveil a new curl style, think of it as round 2 or reincarnation of the hair… new curls for another week without having to have another wash/style day! i love finger coils because i have the protection, longevity, and managebility of a protective style, and the ease, versatility, and curls of a wash n go. my wash days went from once a week to once every two weeks, hair never felt better

I went from wash n go's almost twice a week to crochet braids styles with no leave out. The first one looked good enough for me to try again, but it lasted 3 months before I needed to re-do it. I just sprayed my roots with water when I felt like it, put on a bonnet at night, fluff and go in the morning. I've worn different variations of this same style for a year and my hair has GROWN.

Girl, I understand. I've been doing wash and gos for a little under a year and I'm tired 😴 I'm currently on day 3 of my protective style, which I'm planning to keep for 2 weeks, hopefully I'll be able to regain my wash and go mood between now and then. I've been washing and styling / resetting my hair 2 - 3 times a week 😭. I love the style, and my hair does too, but it's taking a toll on my mental for sure 😂. Whatever you decide to do I'll definitely keep watching 🤗😉

I do twists in winter/fall.... about 12 and then take out after 1 to 2 days... bun the rest of the week. Wash 1x a week or every 10 days if its frigid. Summer spring wear a wash n go 1 to 2 days then yep... A bun. I do a true wash n go. Shower apply products. Hooded dryer for 1 hr. Diffuse for 10 minutes for volume. Go to sleep. Wake up and pick it out. I just refuse to make it any more complicated than that. Good for you for sticking to what works! It does not work for me to wear my hour out daily. I work in healthcare! ❤ good luck everyone happy growing 🎉. 😊

I started my natural hair journey in December 2022. I started off doing wash and go’s every week. After about 6 months, I tried flat twist outs. They were ok. I am now trying to reduce how often I manipulate my hair. I’ll braid my hair down to wear wigs for two weeks then do braid outs. I’m liking this routine so far. My hair is longer and I’m experiencing less fairy knots.

I so deeply relate to this!! I patiently did protective styles to achieve the big hair wash n go. Once I crossed the "finish line", I realized I didn't have the energy or want to make the time to put in the work needed to maintain it. It was a LOT of work. Neglect resulted in damage, so I had to cut 4+ inches to salvage my hair. I wear two-strand twists now. It's working for me.

I usually do a twist out on my longer hair. I agree, wash and go’s are GREAT on shorter hair, as that is why I did that style primarily when my hair was shorter. Now my hair is shoulder length. The twist out is a long hair day process but I keep my twists in for a few days before I take them out and then fluff them

I have crazy shrinkage so I moved off regular wash and gos. Now, I just blow dry on wash day and then do updos and flat twistouts. Life is much easier! I do my flat twists with the Doux Mousse Def topped with the Melanin Haircare curl cream. I get a good 3-4 days out of it before I have to retwist.

I’m glad you’re switching it up. I honestly became tired of your content because even though it’s filmed beautifully, all wash n goes look the same. Living to achieve perfect curl definition limits the ability to enjoy your hair. You have beautiful hair and I hope you find a style you can enjoy. I think mini twists would be a great way to maintain hair health with less manipulation. Braids won’t be good for you because your hair will dry out.

What I realized after my last time being natural is I don’t like my hair long! This time around, I have a tapered cut. Much easier to wash/style/dry in no more than 45 minutes. As soon as I feel it’s getting too long on sides and back, chop chop. I became natural to free up time going to salon. I don’t want to trade that time to now slave away myself. Nope.

This is so interesting because I literally had this same realization a few weeks ago. Wash n go's are so fun in certain seasons of life, but they leave little room for grace. If you miss a wash, or life starts doing what life does you could possibly be in set back territory (I certainly was). Im excited to get back into wash n go's in the summer, but for this period of my life I'm a straight natural ha ha. I'm stretching my hair with my revair and then twisting it up with a little bit of leave in and grease (the grease has worked so well for the manageability of my hair and has decreased my SSK) As for you being worried about people taking this negatively, I can't speak for everyone else, but for me, I'm more invested in your journey than any one style. Don't be afraid to pivot! Excited to see what you do next. ❤ (P.S. I'd love your take on how wash n go's may not be for every head of hair. That's something that has been on my mind lately since my hair is tightly coiled)

You are definitely not alone with these feelings & concerns…. I can relate to quite a few of them myself. Just recently had mines cut some inches lower to see if that would assist & it did help but not as much as I would like. Even if I go shorter than where I’m at now there are still concerns with the overall health…. Such as discoloration, detangling/tangling…. If I can ever get to one of them Florida pros to fully access my hair & make it do what it do, I think that may give some relief as well as solutions😄 Loudney & SamHeidi I may be in y’all chair one day🩵 Hope this made you smile Brittany. Breaking your hair up in seasons is nice and also keeps the fun. Depending in the climate you live you can do washngos in late spring/ summer and choose some kind of protective style of choice. Corn rows and head wraps are mine for now will eventually switch it up with mini twists/flat twists, etc and if you want some heat styles in winter (blow outs, silk presses). For me is perfect, just before you get bored you switch it up with the seasons. The thing that I noticed is the will to take time do one's hair ebs abd flows and fuguring a styles that you still retain length without doing too much is nice

I get this way every so often with my wash-n-gos and then I start doing half wash-n-gos, half twist outs. I know what you’re thinking lol, but I’ll wash and go most of my hair and then do a twist out in the crown and top of my hair. It automatically gives me the top heavy styles I love and I don’t have to stretch it with heat. It also gives me more curl control bc I can change the size of my curls with the size of the twists. And if I’m really over it, I twist it back up and wear a half down, half twisted up style and it works for me. Excited to see what styles you come up with!!
