Girl you do 1000 steps on wash day. You are going to get tired of any style because your wash days are lonnngggg. I love watching your videos, because you are one of the few naturalistas that give us lengthy content. And I love you for that 😍. But it’s confusing because your hair is freshly grown out from a TWA, it’s not color processed, you don’t use direct heat, and you get professional trims. Yet you take care of your hair like you are trying to repair it from something . It’s literally healthy asf on its own love. My wash days are shampoo, moisturize, and style . Once a month I do a protein treatment and deep condition if I feel like it . My hair is still doing just fine with my 3 step wash day. Try it for a month. I would love to hear your opinion on it.

I prefer the definition gotten from the raking method. She has type 4b hair. She's the only type 4 person I've seen do the raking method. Mostly type 3 people do that method. While type 4 people seem to prefer the shingle method. The raking method seems to me to be much quicker and easier to do plus the definition is superb especially if you use enough products while doing it.

The suns heat isn’t what damages our hair it’s the ultraviolet rays that the sun is emitting. Those rays are what’s damaging to not only our hair but our skin as well. A hooded dryer or diffuser will not emit ultraviolet rays so it will not damage the hair or skin in the same way the sun would! And as for direct and indirect heat I like to think of it as hovering your hand over a pan/skillet to see if it’s warm (indirect heat)vs touching the palm of your hand to the pan to check (direct heat)❤

I hear you!!! I had to do a complete re-think as my hair grew. Like you….I was totally a WnG girl. The only thing that saved me was adopting the Anthony Dickey method. Fairy knots disappeared immediately. Detangling happened nearly on its own and I was SO HAPPY!!! Then came Winter and no more WnG!! I haven’t seen my natural hair “out” since November. I’ve been putting my hair in twists or braids under head wraps and I only do a complete wash day every 14 days. I will revisit WnG when Late Spring/Summer comes along. But right now….My strands and I are on Vacation!! I’ll be watching for your vlogs!!!
@ClearAbyss10 ай бұрын
Me too! Wash and gos only last like 3 days in winter because of how dry the air is where I am. But in summer it gets humid enough where my hair doesn’t dry and tangle so fast. Like you I’ve started sticking mostly to braids, twists, or straightening in fall/winter, and wash and gos for spring/summer. Also, I’ve kind of ditched combs and detangling brushes. I usually finger detangle now and sometimes “check my work” with a brush or comb if I feel the need to or I’m planning on straightening it.
@alisameireis362810 ай бұрын
@@ClearAbyss Yep!!! I have ditched denman brushes, etc, too!! I finger detangle and use a small tooth comb to ‘check myself’ at the end of applying leave-in. Last Spring/Summer, my WnG is fabulous….but now my hair has really grown and it’s no longer an Afro and even shrinkage doesn’t get it “up there”, if you know what I mean….It hangs down and out. So, I realize that my WnG is no longer going to be an actual curly-coily Afro. It’s going to be a different more elongated look this Spring and Summer….and I’m not sure I’m ready for that! I was really rocking my big Afro hanging below my neck last Summer. 🤣 Now my braids are hanging past my shoulders and my hair is thick on top of that…so, yet another adjustment will have to be made when it warms up. But regardless, I will “Water Wash” every 2 days with a full Wash Day w/deep conditioner on the 7th day. Of that, I’m sure!! Keeps my strands hydrated and detangled!! Glad to know I’m not the only one dealing with Seasonal changes!! 🥰❤️

I'm glad you're being honest with yourself. I wasn't. As my hair got longer, I got tired of maintaining a wash and go. I ended up with traction alopecia before I realized what I was doing to myself. Trying to gradually repair it now.

Mini twists...or twists that are not too big, not too small that you can leave in for a few days always work too. For the fall/winter seasons this is usually my go to style. I mainly do WnGs during the warmer months. The twists help with retaining length and since they're a low manipulation type style they help with hair growth as well. I also can pin them up or pull them back or up into different styles.

However, in maintaining the curls involved a lot of other variables such as finding the right shampoos, conditioners and stylers. When all the stars are aligned, we rock wash and goes. WNGs made me fall in love with my REAL hair!Although I am not a hair stylist, I found myself obsessed in perfecting it to the best of my ability. What you’re feeling is totally valid. But remain truthful to yourself and what you feel. I feel like a lot of naturals are going through this. I went through this a year ago, bc my hair wasn’t matching my lifestyle. I am an engineer and I live in the UK where it’s cold and rainy most of the time. A year ago I realised that I might need to be a “straight” natural. I wash my hair weekly, a blow dry it and I put it in flat twists for the week. It’s been working for me so far. My texture has loosened a bit bc of the heat, but I don’t mind that. Bc I am retaining length and most of all I am enjoying my hair bc I don’t see it has a chore or as something that will take a lot of my time, or something that I need to have a major logistics strategy behind it. It became easier… So I say, DO WHATEVER IS BEST FOR YOU AT THE MOMENT. And If then you are at a point where wash and gos are the way to go, do them! That’s life!

I’ve been natural for 10 years. And I hated detangling too. What I did was use my pre-poo session to detangle. My scalp was an itchy mess. So came up with this whipped coconut oil concoction to detangle with because oil keeps my hair stretched. I also did this overnight so that I could get a hot oil treatment as well. Then I would shampoo in the morning. This way, my wash day is broken up. Also, there is nothing wrong with trying different styles. I wear mini twists and wearable (med size twists) all the time. Especially during winter. Like now. I have some twists with a beenie. I keep the twists in for two to three weeks then have a bomb twist out. You and your hair get a rest. It’s ok to change. Do what works for you. I love doing my hair. Even ten years later. Hope this helps!

I get this way every so often with my wash-n-gos and then I start doing half wash-n-gos, half twist outs. I know what you’re thinking lol, but I’ll wash and go most of my hair and then do a twist out in the crown and top of my hair. It automatically gives me the top heavy styles I love and I don’t have to stretch it with heat. It also gives me more curl control bc I can change the size of my curls with the size of the twists. And if I’m really over it, I twist it back up and wear a half down, half twisted up style and it works for me. Excited to see what styles you come up with!!

I wash once a week and wear twists (not mini-lazy I said!) and pin them up into like an updo, or just pin up the front to frame my face. Or wear a little beanie on the back. Also, I have about 9 months of growth. My hair is this short and I still don’t wanna put the time in for a gorgeous wash and go lol. And my strands are fine. But I have high density so tangling/ssk are inevitable with wash and gos and I don’t like that 🥴

Breaking your hair up in seasons is nice and also keeps the fun. Depending in the climate you live you can do washngos in late spring/ summer and choose some kind of protective style of choice. Corn rows and head wraps are mine for now will eventually switch it up with mini twists/flat twists, etc and if you want some heat styles in winter (blow outs, silk presses). For me is perfect, just before you get bored you switch it up with the seasons. The thing that I noticed is the will to take time do one's hair ebs abd flows and fuguring a styles that you still retain length without doing too much is nice

I do twists in winter/fall.... about 12 and then take out after 1 to 2 days... bun the rest of the week. Wash 1x a week or every 10 days if its frigid. Summer spring wear a wash n go 1 to 2 days then yep... A bun. I do a true wash n go. Shower apply products. Hooded dryer for 1 hr. Diffuse for 10 minutes for volume. Go to sleep. Wake up and pick it out. I just refuse to make it any more complicated than that. Good for you for sticking to what works! It does not work for me to wear my hour out daily. I work in healthcare! ❤ good luck everyone happy growing 🎉. 😊

I haven't done a wash n go in many months because I hate diffusing my hair and have no plans on buying a hooded dryer. I thought about doing a wash n go this week, but I remembered the diffusing part, so I changed my mind and did twists instead.

I used to be a wash and go girly but the single strand knots had me HATING wash day, plus I wasn’t using a gel (which made it easier once I started using it) so my hair so tough on wash days that I ended up cutting it off and then learned about the gel. Now I’m mainly a braid/twist n go or braid/twistout girly which makes my weekly wash days EASY ASF!!!

I agree with this 100%. I’ve been experimenting more with other styles like flat ironing, blow outs and braid outs. I miss my natural curls but they’re a lot sometimes.

I never do WnG and I want to actually try doing more of that this spring. I’m a 2 strand twist/twist out girl.

Consider a tapered cut! Best part of being a short hair natural is the ability to switch up between twist out, wash and go or silk press easily plus with consistent trims/cuts the hair ends are always healthy and faster style time

I’m a big fan of flat twists, mini twists, and knotless braids! Good luck! I hope you know that you can still do wash n gos, just maybe not all the time ❤

I was feeling the same way after doing wash n goes for three years straight. Started wearing twists and it fit my lifestyle better so I ended up getting microlocs installed!

Twist outs (7-12 twists) were my go to until I hit waist length. (Stretched volume without the detangling drama) Im a wash and go girlie now. (Wash and go on long hair = volume even with crunchy hair that lasts 10 days) I’d love to see you do twists outs or braid outs

I can’t seem to get past bra strap length. What products do you use for your twists outs?
@OhHeyyyThere9 ай бұрын
@@patricia9625 leave in conditioner (TGIN green tea leave in) and foam (doux mousse def). I hope the recommendation helps. ❤️

Love the video and how you edited it to let us know what's going on along with letting us watch your washing process. I have always done twists and have maintained short hair for 5 years now and am now starting my wash and go journey. Honeslty twists and chunky braids or even the two braids or two flat twists are styles that I loved to do when I was doing twists all the time. And honestly, I know that as your hair gets longer, the washing process sometimes can take longer. Doing wash n go's for 3 years is amazing and I agree that depending on your hair, especially when it comes to how it curls and the surface texture, some styles such as stretched styles are better. My hair grew a lot back then constantly whenever I wore my hair in twists before I cut it again lol. I say all this to say that twists and plaits are simple, easy and can be however small or large you want depending on the time you have. Only thing is the larger you do your twists and braids, the longer it takes to dry if you're using creams.

you should try a twist out. they stretch your hair so u can avoid single strand knots and be able to enjoy your hair being out. you also get to enjoy the luxury of ur hair being in twists so you don’t have to manipulate it as much and stretch the days of the style. i think they would look so good on u and i’m curious on ur thoughts 💕😊

This is honestly where I’m at with it 😭. I love the look of a wash and go but the longer my hair gets the more over I am

I personally wash and blow dry every wash day. I’ll then do a twist out or roller set on my stretched hair. My hair and scalp have been loving this method. And wash day has been cut down tremendously!!

My twist outs on wet hair is basically a more defined wash n go. I just make sure I sit under the dryer to dry them completely and use a leave in with a foam

I am open to watching videos of you experimenting with other styles. I have enjoyed your wash n go videos but I rarely wear the wash n go style myself. I currently blow dry my hair and further stretch it in bantu knots, chunky two strand twists, flat twists, and half braid/half twists. I also plan to try African threading at some point too.

Absolutely nothing wrong with switching it up! I do it all the time lol I think it's natural to want a change after a certain amount of time. I'll definitely be sticking around to watch your journey! I love a good braid out when I don't wanna wash n go. I'll either use a leave in + grease, or a cream + mousse depending on the look I'm going for!

You’re right I feel like WNGs are cool when your hair is shorter. I was kinda wondering how you were doing them in the winter. Just switch up to suite your lifestyle

It’s okay to change up the hair. When I get tired of wash and goes, I get braids or twists out. If I have a hard time detangling it’s time for a trim. I only use foams. I always stretch my hair.

Girl, I understand. I've been doing wash and gos for a little under a year and I'm tired 😴 I'm currently on day 3 of my protective style, which I'm planning to keep for 2 weeks, hopefully I'll be able to regain my wash and go mood between now and then. I've been washing and styling / resetting my hair 2 - 3 times a week 😭. I love the style, and my hair does too, but it's taking a toll on my mental for sure 😂. Whatever you decide to do I'll definitely keep watching 🤗😉

I never have any issues with my wash and gos😂 all I do is put it into bantu knots every night before bed, put it in a hair net cap, bonnet on, then go to sleep and wake up with cute curls every day. My hair even growing like crazy too.

Great video. I do the same thing too. I put it in a bun, twist out and it is out of the way. I'm a wash and go lady but I will not guilt myselg for not wanting to do the style. If I don't have time or I can foresee that it will not be convenient, I'll make a different decision.

I definitely felt this when my hair was shorter I used to be a twist out natural heavy and then when my hair went past my nip I became a wash n go natural especially spending 3 hrs on my hair I feel mini twisting and teaching yourself to cornrow like I did is a great way to get a lil break and a switch up❤

I hate detangling my hair as well. That’s why I do wash n gos twice a week. I have been doing twists because I have been too busy but the detangling after is a lot😭 Do whatever works best for you to be happy with your hair!
