Nope, actually the people in Pyongyang are probably going what they normally do on a daily basis. Remember that Pyongyang is the capital and showcase city for the privleged only. But also remember that the tiny country is forced to be almost entirely self-sufficient due to blockages on foreign trade. For that they are doing remarkably well.
@UnitedKingdomGovernment6 жыл бұрын
i agree with the fact that the people in Pyongyang were doing what they normally do everyday but you can't possibly defend it or think anything they do is good when their labor camps are almost a bad if not worse than nazi death camps and most of the population is starving
@1988ryan14 жыл бұрын
@@infinitasalo472 The fall of the eastern bloc only stopped Russia trading with them. They get almost all of their supplies from China from 1991, they are no where near self-sufficient. That's why there is JBL speakers, and why they all have coke bottles they remove labels from, and why they're all using Chinese phones. Not to mention the HUGE lack of electricity in NK, most of the little electricity they have they don't make themselves. I think they recently got self-sufficient in some basic foods like potatoes, but they still import things like meat and protean.

Notice how the buses are packed, and notice how Louis and company are the only people eating at the restaurant, and how there are minimal cars on the road and housing that is clearly underdeveloped. Cuba more frozen in place..... really? They are being shown only what they want the outside world to see. In cuba you at least can travel and see what you want aka get the whole experience. And building new roads and buildings... north korea is only using it's resources to building a greater facade, that's not a great thing and more 'like dubai' thing.

But don't portray it as something it isn't to thousands of people who you have a great deal of influence over.
@KevinGeneFeldman8 жыл бұрын
North Korea is entirely created around propaganda. These tourist routes are designed to trick ignorant people, like so many in the comments, into thinking N. Korea is great, it's civilized, it's developed, but the reality is that its a horrific place of misery, starvation, poverty and death. This is documented, this is fact, nobody can make the case that North Korea is actually not so bad.

I will say that this series is interesting because as a westerner, we really don't get to properly see what north korea looks like. They always paint it in the horrible concentration camp picture without any bright sides. You don't know enough about North Korea. North Korea's government sponsors the tour and the guides MUST show the tourists the best parts of Pyongyang. Of course, the North Korean government isn't going to show them the concentration camps, starving people and horrible conditions in the country. The money from tourism actually gives the North Korean government money to continue the oppression of their people. However, we have to remember that it's the North Korean GOVERNMENT that is bad....NOT the North Korean PEOPLE.

Of course it seemed better and more modern than you imagined because that's what they wished to protray. Why do you think they provided a guided tour? Why do you think they pointed out how newly built the airport was and the road you were talking about? Surely you're not this absent minded, Louis. :P As others have said, they're putting on a show. I find it fascinating to watch; can't wait to watch the rest.
@keandric27658 жыл бұрын
Lol, I think you meant naive, not absent minded xD :)
@GSKim-pv5ey8 жыл бұрын
You think they're putting on a show just for him and other tourists? Please. Of course they are going to point out the newly built airport. It's new. What tour company wouldn't point out something like that? If you were in Pyongyang two years ago you would have used the much older airport. And yes, I wonder how many tours to the U.S. include a trip to the homeless areas like Skid Row in DTLA or South Central, or to private prisons, mental institutions, etc.? It's all Beverly Hills, Hollywood Walk of Fame, etc. -- DPR Korea is no different. And yet people keep rehashing the same line, "Oh, it's all a show" -- I guess if you say it enough, other people will eventually parrot it and it becomes fact.
@TheJauntyJester8 жыл бұрын
G.S. Kim lol You've never seen any of the documentaries where they sneak off from the guided tours, have you? Or videos about when they visit restaurants expected? What about the nightly power outages? Or even the stories from citizens who've escaped? This isn't some conspiracy theory. This is real life in a communist country which a dictator is attempting to hide.
@TheJauntyJester8 жыл бұрын
+keandric 2 Absent minded is defined as oblivious. Perhaps you prefer naive, but both work in this instance.
@keandric27658 жыл бұрын
TheJauntyJester Actually, it's defined as this: '(of a person or a person's behavior or manner) having or showing a habitually forgetful or inattentive disposition.' Oblivious *is* one of the synonyms, but that's used more in a daydreaming way. I don't know what country you're from, but in American English, the phrase "absent minded" is Never used in a similar manner as naive. Not intending to start an argument or anything about this, just don't want non-English speakers (who use videos and tv and such as a way to perfect their English) to get the wrong idea. English is already confusing enough for ESL peeps,I'm sure.. lol ^_^

the reason they all look happy and friendly is because it is staged. what you see on the tour and in pyongyang is not a true reflection of north korea whatsoever

How come there is an old KZbin layout on this?
@Yaser-ih2cx8 жыл бұрын
Ya why is that? You think north korea proofed his video or something??
@redcatjack8 жыл бұрын
Same here, it's using the old layout. Weird asf

Pieter Hoek KZbin updated the way videos look when it comes to the time bar on the bottom. On a monitor, it has the old layout, where it is no longer transparent.

The people may seem nice and they may be but North Korea is still a country that is heavily controlled by the government, they don't want people from other countries to get a bad impression so they may be forced to put on a smile i' just saying this because people may think differently of North Korea but don't be fooled by acting.

+Rachel You are eating up everything the media tells you haha have some freedom and dont listen to everything you hear do some research both the good and the bad about the DPRK then come to you're conclusion as to see if you like the DPRK or not but please in any case dont try to turn my independent mind to listen to American Propaganda
@galacticacorn78058 жыл бұрын
+Rachel I am a pending member of the KFA I have you know i have much knowledge about the DPRK and its parties left and right i get news and articles straight from trustworthy sorces not CNN and NKnews and especially not Arirang news i get my studying materials from various KFA sources and i have a 90 score point in knowledge of the DPRK's teachings in Juche and Songgun so continuing with you're meaningless parade of know how would be completely disregarded as nonsense knowing I'm far superior to the likings of your low intellect and biased thoughts on the DPRK's systems of law and order prisons are everywhere unless you're type of freedom requires even the criminals to run FREE im sorry but I have to decline you're argument of slandering meaningless shouts of anti DPRK propaganda

Actually seen as these people know nothing about the outside world, its pretty obvious most of them are genuinly happy. People in the USA fake smiles more often than anywhere else in the world tbh.

I think you're forgetting the reality of millions of people who live there, you got stuck in the act that they setup for you and forgot about everything behind it.
