On my off lease machine I use the compatible. I pay 1/4 the price and they've been great. I use them for smaller run stuff, and things that's are lower coverage. I use the lease machines where I pay per click to run off the higher coverage and larger page size prints. I'm happy with the set up and the compatibles havent let me down yet. I did a similar thing with paper clearing out multiple locations of everything they had. I just took a truck and drove around loading it up. Filled up my shop and put the extra into storage in my garage. Super happy because paper shot up in price too. So I saved like 20%. Price has since gone down but because I got it on a quantity discount, and before prices shot up, I was lucky.

Hi Dan, good to see you again! Just a few possible tips and pointers regarding your comment about the water reservoir on your envelope inserter. I used to operate a similar machine badged Pitney Bowes. Underneath the PB covers it was a Phillipsburg. Did PB buy Bell & Howell/Phillipsburg some years ago? Our machine had an in-line accumulator/folder with document reader. So if a document had 9 sheets, it would accumulate and fold the maximum of 5 sheets and deliver it to the feed chain which would wait. The next 4 sheets would be released, folded and then delivered "nested" on top of the first part. The feed chain would only advance once the document was complete. And the machine had a continuous envelope feeder. The water supply was pumped up to the applicator brush from a 5 litre plastic container inside the machine. You had to prime the system (push button) to lift the water into the brush head. But if the machine was left to stand for a long time, and ordinary tap (fawcett) water was left in the container, it would become murky and have a nasty looking "film" of crud on the surface. Not good! So we used to buy a bottle of additive from PB and mix so many capfuls with the water. This additive prevented any nasties building up in the water. However, I was reliably informed that this additive was more or less an off-the-shelf sterilising solution. In the U.K. it was sold in chemists (drug stores) under the brand name Milton, and was used in the sterilising of feed bottles for infants. Another operator told me that in a previous company he worked a B&H/Phillipsburg line and the used a tiny amount of fabric conditioner in the water reservoir for the wetting brush. And don't forget although our tap water is clean and drinkable, it contains minerals which may affect the feed spout of your reservoir if it is rubber/ plastic/? You could try melt water from your fridge/freezer because it is the result of condensation. Only thinking about you with your limited manpower (that's your good self!) as you need to just go to the machine, switch on, load up and start work without worrying about the brush water reservoir being clogged with crud! Stay safe and well.
@justaprinter3 жыл бұрын
Yes, I should buy distilled water or do as you say with an additive. I'm assuming some minerals clogged up the small valve that is in there. I'm looking forward to reviving it and them keeping distilled water on hand.

Generic toner messed up both of my c1085, 70% developer went bad after 2 bottles + some charging sensor issues- we have to vacuum machines like everyday. Maybe for 1070/3070 generic is better, because composition of toner is different. @@myinkjetprint3161 … Ive been a Printer / Copier technician for 40 years, owned my own business for 30 as an independent ( Michael’s Copier and Printer ) In the inkjet market, the “ink” is basically pigment, surfactants, glycerin (soap), and water. The reason it’s expensive is Manufacturers realized they could make more money selling supplies, and they go to great lengths to keep the “generics” out of the game by installing chips that lock out the non OEM ink or toner. This process is basically illegal because of the “Magnuson Moss” warranty act, it’s illegal to prevent you from using supplies other than theirs. HP and others have been sued repeatedly over this and yet it continues !! - the manufacturers first used toner or anything ink cartridges that were difficult to copy and patented the design, Generics fought back and made small changes in the cartridges to avoid copyright infringement. (Which didn’t affect their operation) the the game changed to small chips that communicated with the printer to prevent non OEM from functioning. The generic manufacturers then beat this by coming up with their own chips that differed slightly (ie: no toner level display / actually the chip is not a sensor and “guesses”) the Printer manufacturers will try to scare you into not using the “off brand” by issuing warnings, but they can’t completely lock it out, and the warnings can be bypassed, usually by clicking “OK” …. OEM’s don’t manufacture their own ink or toner they source it out … and generally it’s the same for many years and models … they just improve or change the chip. I’ve been using and selling Generics for almost 40 years … some are better than others but the market has matured and most of the time it’s perfectly fine …

compatible stuff like cleaning blades and similar parts like that are great - in my experience, they either don't work at all from the get go or work almost just as good as the OEM stuff. It's 100% not worth it to use generic powders like toner and developer. I had to use a leftover generic toner with one of my BW Ricoh machines because I couldn't get the OEM stuff delivered to me and after a few thousand prints (when the generic toner had worked its way into the developer) density and print quality degraded. luckily, the OEM stuff arrived shortly after and after a few more hundred prints it started going back to where it was, print quality wise. to me, it isn't worth it to use generic toner or developer, even if you can't print, because in the long run, it's most likely going to cause you a lot of trouble with your machine that costs a lot to fix, like developer powder, sensors, etc. Most other things on the press you can try generic as they will only affect that particular subsystem of the machine without causing damage to other parts, 90% of the time.

My perfect binding machine doesnt have a side glue roller, will this impact my books durability?
@markmiwurdz2023 жыл бұрын
@Team Circuit. It is possible that the lack of side gluing may affect the durability of your perfect bound books. The purpose of the side gluing rollers is to stick the cover to the front and back pages of the book block with a narrow line of glue. The cover is usually creased to hinge/fold away from this glued margin. So opening the cover is not directly from the spine of the book, where the main strength of the binding is required. If you rip off the cover from a perfect bound magazine from the newstand, you can sometimes see the notches from the binder's milling tool. The side gluing and cover hinge creases will hide these notches and make the binding look neater. Do you use PUR adhesive or regular hot - melt glue in your perfect binder? Stay safe and well.
@socsimplified3 жыл бұрын
Regular EVA hot melt glue,
@markmiwurdz2023 жыл бұрын
@Team Circuit. Thanks for your reply. EVA hot melt glue gives a strong binding. The main problems with perfect binding any digital printed books is that the printing process "cooks" the paper, removing moisture content from the material. Plus cross grained paper is to be avoided. The adhesive needs to penetrate the open grain of paper at the milled edge of the book block, hook on to the fibres to bind the pages and attach the cover. It is best practice to have the grain direction of your pages to be bound running head to foot. If you have the grain running from spine to foredge, the paper will "resist" opening and in time weaken the binding. A good test is to bind some dummy books and with a sharp knife cut through the spine lengthwise to check the thickness of the glue film, penetration of the adhesive and any voids/air pockets. These flaws can usually be overcome by adjusting the glue film, glue tank/roller/ doctor blade height etc. Just to let you know, I was told that adhesive binding was developed in Germany between WW1 and WW2. The inventor ( a Mr. Lumbeck, although I'm not sure?) was a Socialist who believed ordinary citizens should be able to buy a "bound" book for a price to suit the ordinary man in the street.

Depending on the book, I sometimes turn the side glue off and apply more glue to the bottom edge. Then the extra glue wraps up around the side and creates a side glue effect. You can achieve that my changing the dwell times of the bottom and side nipper.

There is not a single manufacture that makes everything that goes into their machine, from cars to airplanes to computers to copiers and printers - None of the manufacturers produce their own toner, they have it made for them and the ingredients are mostly Plastics, Colorants, friction modifiers, talc, and other binding agents ... the recipe and combination of ingredients is a closely guarded corporate secret. It takes a while but aftermarket suppliers eventually figure it out - it isn't that hard to reverse engineer the chemicals and amounts - true, some companies making generics do a better job !! and Buying Konica branded you are virtually guaranteed quality - because if their toner fails ... it is very hard for them to remain competitive ... In the world of INKJET printers - the ingredients are mostly entirely identical ... the companies use a little chip that locks out generics from being used as well as odd cartridge sizes to make it harder for the aftermarket manufacturers.

Hello dan plzzz tell me about the supplier for toner in china
@justaprinter2 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't recommend it. Use OEM. I ran my Chinese toner and noticed different color densities. Hoping I didn't cause any long term damage. That was over 1 million clicks ago though.

Would you ever just rip through that paper with a 7.5" circular saw? To make your life easer, and just cut of the dirty ends. I was thinking about buying a skid and ripping it this way.
@justaprinter2 жыл бұрын
That would work, but would likely make a huge mess. Haha!

How many % humidity you have at the print shop?

I have not checked in awhile. I don't worry about humidity. Often have the doors open to outside.

Hey Man, how do you handle your scheduling/staying on top of your jobs especially with being just a one man shop? Do you use a program? I've gotten busier than I can handle as well and trying to find a way to keep up.
@justaprinter3 жыл бұрын
I keep it simple. Job come in through email and I flag them there so I know I need to do something. I then write a job ticket and that stays with the job. The more jobs I have, the more piles of job tickets I have. I fell like having a scheduling program would create more work for me.

Maybe if the large companies didn't horde pallets of toner and pallets of paper the little guy could get some at a reasonable price?

Any people use generic developer unit and with generic toner is it , ok ? So far I use is always developer is will less a bit and sometimes is white dot

I have used the generic toner. I have always used oem dev and dev units.

Probably scrimping on the developer that is in the toner. Its very heavy stuff.

@aineiasla3 жыл бұрын
hello dan. you have to be careful because the toners on 1060-2060-3070 have developer material inside the toner, to extend the life of the developer unit. If the Chinese toner in case they not haven't, a problem will be created in the developer units.
@justaprinter3 жыл бұрын
That was the first thing I tested. I put a magnet to it and it had developer mixed in. If at all possible I'm not going to order generic again.

What would you advice in case of total lack of TN-619 toner. Is there any other Konica OEM toner of other machines that one can get if available and drain the toner to an empty container of TN-619 just to survive as we wait for the right ones?
