I have used Fluval and Eheim for years. Eheim does make the better filtration system. Fluval does an ok job. The FX 6 does not perform like I hoped. I will be upgrading to the large Eheim seen in this video at some point.

I’ve used the 2260 for 20 plus years. I finally purchased an FX 6 to supplement my filtration in my 150 gallon heavily stocked mbuna tank. Wanted to see what all the fuss was about concerning the FX 6. No comparison. The eheim outperforms, holds way more media, and way more powerful.
@awilderireland Жыл бұрын
Far more powerful and room for far more media than the Fluval. Less to go wrong with the more basic design of the Ehiem. I wouldn't trust Ehiems High Tech filters anymore. But unless they start cutting corners yours is a great filter for very large heavily stocked tanks. Should last for a long time too.
@Alex_Correa24 күн бұрын
The reason why the recent installed filter has a stronger flow in comparison to the older filter is most likely because the older needs maintenance and is clogging with detritus.

I cleaned out my Eheim 2180 today after manually priming pump ran for a few mintes then cut out. Checked the fuse in plug etc but no joy running. Before this happened I could not fault this awesome beast of a machine with crystal clear water like the fish are floating in the air. Good vlog here. We need more on the Eheim filters.. The Germans build great quality products generally.....

Hi when eheim’s don’t prime correctly on the 1200xl the adapter cartridge that slots into filter 2 in’ 1 out, keep outlet above water line then let it run into a bucket to clear outlet, if you look up inside outlet you’ll see white poly ball lubricate it with eheim matenance spray then turn on off lever a few times, for some reason when you try to cycle the filter it creates an air block that doesn’t allow air to purge out of filter that’s the frustration people get when they can’t start their filter’s up, Every clean a little spray also around red ejector that also sticks, 👍I have 2 and a 1500xl the best filter’s you can buy

@@shauns3685 Thanks for your reply Shaun. Yes, I agree they are amazing… I panicked for my fish and bought a back up filter - Fluval FX6, as I am a new fish keeper I did not have a spare. Have to say though on comparison these do a good job also very user friendly when cleaning as the push release pump fittings are sublime. I later found the Eheim 2180 impeller shaft had broken during the removal of the head (pump) during cleaning. I ordered a new one on e-bay £8 and fitted it very easy and am happy to say is once again working fine. Eheim’s build quality is apparent here and I think a better thing. They are both very good but Eheim engineering is exceptional in my opinion…

@CrazyAquariumGuy Жыл бұрын
@@van0000 Yes. If you fill it up with a fine 4 inch sponge in the bottom, where the water flow comes in. And then put in as much ceramic as you can. Look at pondguru when he set it up. Mine is 95% setup the same way. Then of course if you are going to have a heavily stocked tanks with big predator or a community tank with 200 fish you will need more. But don't go crazy and this filter is amazing. Set it up like pondguru shows you, and you can go without cleaning it for 12-18 months. 👌

eheim all the way i have two 1200xlt's and a 1500xl, superb no problems been running them for 8years, 1500 set up i use eheim fix 2 boxs in the base this collects all the large plant waste, also it does'nt slow it down as much as mech, then 3 diff grade sponges, then sera filter wool this will fine filter before bio which i use substrat pro, then more sera filter wool and finally sera siporax as much as you can fit in superb stuff and polish it of with more filter wool, cant beat them for mechanical and biological filters just use them correctly, one tip on all eheim's use eheim vasaline on seals and when cleaning/cycling them ALWAYS return pipes must be above the water line to purge the air out, one way in one way out.! and all my L numbers are happy 850ltrs.

IMO you have your media inside the canister set up wrong. The tube like media in the bag is meant for mechanical filtration and should be separated from the sphere media in the bag. The sphere media is meant for biological, put this in another bag. The sponge looks like Poret foam which is used for mechanical and biological. So, in order from the bottom of the canister to the top (direction of water flow) it should go mechanical tube media first. Then I would place the foam in order of most porous to least. Then on top of that put the biological media (spheres = Eheim Substrat), then goes a fine filter floss to polish the water further. By keeping your biological media in the same bag as your mechanical media the bio media will become clogged and be far less efficient.
@sondercichlidaquariums49516 жыл бұрын
Devon Musika correct except the place for floss is straight after medium foam, before bio media, if you put it after bio media it keeps all the fine muck trapped with it. Look up PondGuru on KZbin, he's done videos on it
@Kenney91206 жыл бұрын
Yes, all mechanical filtration should be done before the water hits the bio media. Further, it would be a good idea to make something to create a small space between the bio media and the pad or floss to avoid compressing it.

I own both the Eheim 2260 and Fluval FX6. The Eheim was retired and soon to be sold. Out of the box, the Fluval has better features. It has a higher flow rate, cut-off valves, self-primes, uses less power. Sure you can add quick-connects, another $100. Add a better pump, another $100. The Fluval is cheaper and if you buy another $25 connector you can attach a drain hose to the outtake and actually pump the water out during a water change and pump fresh RO water in by connecting to the intake. Second-one versions are about $150. Unbeatable value imo.

3 min of 10. no info. thats 30% of video without any info.then you say 3 different but not different "the same kind".. one thats no information for anyone. and 2) its wrong. Eheim filters bottom up. This means you need ceramic rings to cause water turbulance in the bottom and keep out big chunky bits, then coarse, medium and finally, fine filter pads to really get out all the mechanical junk.. finally mechanicaly filtered water seeps upwards and there is where you place bio filtration media.. so as they dont get clogged. Bio media needs clean water else the clogged pores (need to be high surface area hence porous) to provide sufficient bacterial habitat. So just to state your filter is badly setup.
