Having worked in hotels for years, this happens pretty frequently. There's a pretty simple tool at the front desk that's specifically for this situation or, as has happened less frequently (to me, at least), when the guest in a room has either passed away or is not responsive to staff trying to get into the room for whatever reason.
@Riffer_Tx8 жыл бұрын
The doors are oversized for wheelchair access. The shower is oversized to accommodate a shower chair for the handicapped. The room is predesigned to handle the needs of any guest. A very smart practice for a Resort that wants to keep all of its guest happy.

Awesome story telling, Justin. I've had a similar thing happen to me. Staying at a hotel by myself and at 3 am decided to leave the room and get a soda. Door slammed shut and that was enough force for that inside lock to flip over. I couldn't get back into the room. The hotel staff could not believe there wasn't someone in the room. They had to rip the inside door frame off to get me back into the room. Yikes. I thought for sure I would end up with a huge hotel bill, but, it worked out fine. Good thing I put on pants before I went to get the soda.

Worked in hotels for years, and I was chuckling through this story because there absolutely is a tool for the situation (you can slide it into the gap the door makes even when the latch is engaged, settle it on the latch, and then close the door slowly and the tool guides the latch into the open position) and I know that only about half the hotels I worked for had it easily accessible at the front desk. I imagine a lot of front desk have never even seen it, and many of the rest wouldn't know how to use it. But for future reference, yeah, it's a real tool and if you work in a hotel and it doesn't have it, say something to them about it so that can be addressed.
@MikeCook20078 жыл бұрын

The town where I live had an old mill town who during the depression paid their employees in Loonies. It was their own form of money that could be spent in the company's store. That way, he could pay his employees, the cotton mill did not close, and everyone got to eat. So, the loonie bin could be a money pit.

You can open those, there was an easier way to do that. If this ever happens to anyone or you again, open the door all the way until you feel it latch. Then bring it back about half way or less and push a credit card or something slim like that against it and it should open right up. I've been in this situation before at my moms apartment

Dude. You kind of made your own mousetrap. o.o ...Oh the irony in that statement. Though since you shared an embarassing moment, I'll share one of mine. We have this weird self-locking backdoor...I had to go out the back door to get something out of our storage room, and I was in nothing but my pajamas on a very very cold day. I left the door open enough so it wouldn't lock behind me...And it locked anyway. I had no keys, no cell phone, I had to go see the neighbors in my pajamas, to call my Mom to come back from her day out to let me back into the house. lD;;; Now I tend to carry my key and cell in my pajama pants pockets. Or wear my Jack Skellington hoodie that has more pockets. Hope that helps. lD And thank you for the vlog! I'm going to be surprised if no one animates this story though. ^^;

I find it funny that they had never experienced this before. I work in hotels, so the whole time i'm watching this I'm thinking "oh that's no issue they just take the tool unlatch it easy peasy lemon squeezy" In the small select service hotel I work in we have this flat prong-esque item that is specifically used to undo latches should something like that or an emergency issue arise. Happens in very rare occasions, but it can happen. Weird that Disney didn't have that same item.

One of the reason why doors in expensive housing/ hotels / buildings were so wide dates back to the 18th century and the wide mantua skirts that high class women wore. The door ways of the era were contructed wider so women didn't have to turn to the side to enter a room. As it is seen with the aspect of being rich, the tradition has carried on though the ages to now. It is also kept for more functional things such as wheelchairs.

I remember when I was 14, my family went to Disneyland for a week, and we stayed at the Disneyland resort hotel. We had 2 adjoining rooms and all the cool stuff. It was 1997. It made it so nice to just leave the room, hop the monorail, and be at the park like nothing. During the day I came back to the room and was freshening up, when the Mexican maid cleaning the adjoining room opened the separation door and we both had the snot scared out of us! She hollered a bunch of words n Spanish, and I jumped over the bed and landed on the other side, on my butt. Why tell you? Because we all do goofy, stupid things. Things at the time were't funny, but are hilarious after the fact. This si going to be one of those stories you'll remember forever! And now I will as well... ;O)
