Excellent setup, Matt! Nicely done! 😃 One idea if you ever need is to put some sand in the "foot" part of your hacks and put PVC tube caps to hold it in. This way it has some weight. 😊 Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊

Really good info on the whole HVLP setup. Being a newbie to woodworking, I've only tried a few finishes, and I'm already trending towards low-VOC. kem aqua can be used with any sherwin williams color. for the darker colors, they need to use a clear base. But be careful. They will have to add the white to it. For some reason, the computer won't add the white to the clear base. They have to add it manually. Let me know if you have any questions about kem aqua. I've sprayed 350+ kitchens with kem aqua.

How do you feel about that Earlex sprayer. I've been wanting to pick up a good HVLP sprayer but keep it cheap as I'm just a part time hobbyist. That sprayer was on my short list. I'd like one sprayer for everything, and if I have to thin down, so be it.
@MWAWoodworks2 жыл бұрын
It's a solid sprayer but I've only ever put clear/thin finishes through it knowing its limitations. I don't usually thin out my finishes so I've never put paint through it. I use it mostly to finish smaller projects because it's easier to move around.

Why do you use a shellac primer and not a water based primer? Is it to skip the sanding necessary after applying a water based product? Really enjoy your videos by the way.

Shellac sticks to anything. I often spray over pre-finished plywood which produces a really smooth finish. Shellac also doesn't raise the wood fibers or open up the grain

In general HVLP is preferred for fine finishing (furniture/cabinets/automobiles) airless sprayers are designed for spraying walls and trim as fast as possible. There's a lot more to it than this very broad brush statement tho 😀

Have to ever tried getting Kem Aqua tinted to a darker color?
@MWAWoodworks2 жыл бұрын
My local store says it can only be whites or pastels.
@carlpetitt22412 жыл бұрын
Great video -- one comment about Kem Aqua Plus: I've been using it for about 6 years and my local supplier can tint it to any SW color, no matter how dark or saturated. This is a huge advantage obviously because the Kem Aqua dries and is ready to sand and re-coat inside 1 hour. Whereas a normal water-based latex or acrylic like SW Emerald or Pro Classic will take realistically 24 hours to fully dry. Have you been told by your SW supplier that they can't tint in darker colors, or is it that you don't think it's as good in darker colors for some reason? Just wanted to clarify, thanks
@MWAWoodworks2 жыл бұрын
Ive been told there isn't a tint base that can go deeper than pastel colors
@carlpetitt22412 жыл бұрын
@@MWAWoodworks interesting, and unfortunate. I've definitely had it made in colors like Acorn Black and Peppercorn. A shame your supplier says they can't do it.
@MWAWoodworks2 жыл бұрын
M64W523 is the product number. And yes they will not tint it any color but whites or pastels
@carlpetitt22412 жыл бұрын
@@MWAWoodworks I think that product number is the primer, so that may be why they will only do certain tints. In the Kem Aqua line they have primer, color coat, and clear top coat. What I've been doing is using the primer un-tinted, so it just goes on white, 2 coats. Then 2 coats of the color. Clear topcoat is optional. The color coat is where they should be able to do any tint, any SW color. Example: my most recent project used primer (E64 W 520), and color coat in Satin Peppercorn (M64PXA33937-4302). I don't know what all those letters and numbers refer to, i just told them i needed 2 gallons of primer and 2 gallons of satin peppercorn Kem Aqua and they made it for me and the label on the cans was that long sequence of numbers and letters.
@MWAWoodworks2 жыл бұрын
What I'm using is definitely a top coat and not primer. I've seen the primer and also a clear coat in addition to the white topcoat. Maybe due to demand it's a product they don't ship into the Nashville area. I will ask the commercial store if they can order kem aqua tint base and see what they say. All the other SW retail stores in my area say no such thing exists here, they just have the white
