that is just it and needs to be planned as soon as possible. Every Indigenous needs to spread the word on who to write in for POTUS. And spread this word to friends of those who are indigenous to these lands.

If you ever need someone to talk to just PM me. You shouldn't feel alone, there's lots of enjoyable people to be around these days, you just have to know where to find them. For what it's worth, sorry that you went through and are still going through all of that.

By reading the comments its clear not everyone gets this humor, its poking fun at people who poke fun at US and disrespect our culture... i may be a small town Holdenville OK Creek girl but i get it hahaha, very cute and now the song is stuck in my head!!

as a native american living on a reservation, it is entirely humor calling out the disrespect in our culture. notice too in the lyrics she's naming a lot of the tribes, and the people in the bg are actual natives. full, mixed and all. i enjoy this video a lot :D and so does my family. we all had a big giggle fit and that's A+. we do love our humor! Edit: I hadn’t realized Mr. Red Corn is native! That makes this a hundred times better!

This is a great post and I love everyone's commentary on it. The music is a disco remake of the Irving Berlin song "I'm an Indian Too" by Don Armando's 2nd Ave Rhumba Band. It was the flip side of their hit song "Deputy of Love." The original song was made for Rodgers & Hammerstein's 1946 musical "Annie, Get Your Gun" - a fictionalized version of the life of Annie Oakley. Originally a Broadway hit, it was later made into a film in 1950. I have some mixed feelings about the song now as an adult, but as a kid, I loved it and loved hearing all the different tribal names on my radio. Today, I heard the original Ethel Merman version from the 40's and tried to imagine it in the context of the musical. I can see a multitude of problems I wasn't aware of as the 1979 version gave me a totally different feeling.

Not every video is as brilliant as this one, but every one carries a message to both Native as well as non-native viewers, softened with humor and designed to wake the masses. Thank you for the great work

And.....flash to one of those clips shown at the beginning.... Wow! I forgot about that...."Zack" from "saved by the bell" saying he was native in and episode about family heritage. A footnote to share: the actual actor is an INDO (Dutch indo) like me..... my family is from the island of borneo......so I guess my cringe-and-laugh song would be "wild woman of borneo" so double feels to this...😆

"You see the one thing I've always maintained is that I'm an American Indian. I'm not a Native American. I'm not politically correct. Everyone who's born in the Western Hemisphere is a Native American. We are all Native Americans. And if you notice, I put American before my ethnicity. I'm not a hyphenated African-American or Irish-American or Jewish-American or Mexican-American. " .. Russel Means. Mitakuye Oyasin!
@iambackd2
@iambackd2 2 жыл бұрын
There is wisdom in it but I am not so sure about the definition of “American” here, this is important; after all, “ I put American before my ethnicity” Means was also a former American Indian Movement (AIM) activist, who helped lead a 1973 uprising at Wounded Knee (BBC 2012). There are moral prerequisites at place before celebrating the concept of “ I put American before my ethnicity” But I don’t know you or exactly what you meant yet; therefore, I could be inconsiderate and even wrong, just some thoughts.
