They used to say if you're in a hole stop digging, so why is Labour wasting billions closing down our last two blast furnaces for making high carbon specialist steels and building electric arc steel plants which cannot produce such steels? The steel we require will have to be imported adding to the carbon footprint via the necessary transportation, the benefits needed for the 6000 redundant workers alone will cost more than the winter fuel payment for pensioners and the extra electricity required for the new furnaces will increase demand on an increasingly scarce supply of electricity meaning at Best Buying increased amounts of foreign gas and electricity. Hardly a recipe for growth. Farage's income tax boost would have done more to boost the economy as it would be primarily for the poor and would give some expendable income which is the key to growth! They should merge capital gains and income tax and tweak the allowance, as capital gains has only been a allowance for the more wealthy who can afford stocks and shares etc. Equality is missing with labour.

Agreed, they could put some on my home for free! and you wouldn't have the issue of linking them to the grid. All council housing should have solar and insulation. Many industrial buildings could have solar. We shouldn't be using more land when we already have other options. But placing solar on farmland would change the land type to brownfield I believe!
