Thanks CK for inspecting nearly the entire Hang Seng Index in this trip, but you miss out JD :) For those western brand, do not single out China, it's the same in other country, I just came back from Japan and it's the same situation, the common brand like Nike, Adidas, Starbucks, McDonald etc are all fatigued, they only do well in Factory Outlet mall, but those rising star e.g. Lululemon, NorthFace, Canadian Goose etc have substantially more traffics. I believe it's the same in Singapore, so their stocks price already coincide with this phenomenon. As for language, I never expect western county to display or speak Chinese and I don't understand why you even expect Chinese to do the same for English, when minority expecting majority to adapt, that is expectation mismatch and self entitle, if there is, it's only a value added service that's available in larger city and some MNC run businesses, it's the same everyway like Japan, Korea, France and Italy.

Living in Shenzhen I try to follow that EV transition from close and is shocking how they packed all malls with car dealers. You said most brands but Geely is a hidden one as is a group with many brands. And some works quite good like Zeekr and Volvo.

About finger prints and facial recognition, just saying that Singapore does the same thing... Also, the U.S. already collects your finger prints too. In fact even when I visited Malaysia, they also collected my finger prints and EVEN MALAYSIA had a few "Counters" where they also did facial recognition, I know I went through them because it is so much faster. But you don't get a stamp... The facial recognition thing seems to only apply to countries with the technological infrastructure for it and I didn't see it when I went to the U.S. but I'm sure some airports in the U.S. has them as well. I also did 2 months of travel this summer (for leisure at my own cost). First was a month in China, went to Hong Kong, Macau, Shanghai, Zhangjiajie and Beijing. Then I did 2 weeks in Cambodia, 4 days in Singapore and 10 days in Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur). Let me tell you, China was SO MUCH FUN. I'd return to either China or Malaysia for sure. Singapore is great, but so expensive, it's just like Canada but you can see that you guys don't have winters and the architecture is beautiful. But I'll say this, China felt super safe and I don't even speak mandarin or any Chinese dialect. I still could do whatever I wanted. But yeah, I did notice that it wasn't all that, China looks like it has a lot of difficulties, empty malls (except the food sections), price that are somewhat really high in those malls. Abandoned buildings (not as many as portrayed in western media, but they exist).

I saw a different Chongqing when i went there at the end of summer this year. The crowds were CRAZY and it felt like all the Chinese from different parts of China were holidaying there. Certainly didnt feel like a recession was going on.

Btw biometric data collection and CCTV is not unique to PRC, Japan, US, Singapore and most country does it too so do not overly paranoid and giving in to slandering media unless you intending to do bad thing, just like our chewing gum ban and vandalism canning is a huge deal to them which tbh none of us giving it a hood, Chinese says 平时不做亏心事，半夜不怕鬼敲门, often not I find myself walking safer in the street of Chengdu at night than in LA or London.

@@hopemeng7263 Depends on the city, it's easier in first-tier cities like Shanghai, Beijing or Hangzhou, but the other tiers may be tougher. But, most young people can understand English (more than they can speak). It's best if you have an translator app to help you. Many of the bigger apps like Didi (ride-hailing), Wechat etc. have English translation function in-built.

I was in Xiamen for holiday during October last year. All the big outlets in the city are still accepting cash. Especially in the more local malls. I was surprise as I was given the impression before the trip that most places no longer accept. That said, I hardly saw any local pay by cash.

Chinese gov total debt (including the local gov) isn’t that low… Even though China is a republic just as the us, but because of the one party system, the central gov is expected to payoff local gov debt….

If Alipay is linked to Singapore bank account, you have to input pin number so there is no reason to worry about overcharge. There is a 3% subcharge if the bill is over 200 RMB. As such it is prudent to split the bill to multiple of 200 RMB to save the 3% subcharge.

@ us state finances is independent of the federal… States gov can default without affecting the federal credit rating… Chinese local provinces debt is financed by the banks which are mostly state owned
