I admit I'm a cat person, but this is a totally charming painting. And you have absolutely shown the absolute need of and consequence of mastering the values.

I love Taiwan. My son has been living there with his wife for about 6 years. I’ve been there twice and hope to go again some day. I have some very special brushes that I bought in new tapei city, hand made and hand inscribed by the calligrapher who owns the shop. I also just bought the Eric Lin brushes which are very nice! Thanks for the lovely demo., as always. What you say about values and trusting the process is so true. Watercolour requires so much patience. It’s so easy to get demoralized.

If i had known you were going to Japan ...there is a *FABULOUS* art store just a few minutes from Shinjuku station...i think it has six floors, with, for example one floor of just framing materials, another of just paints... but, maybe you know it? sounds like a super trip!

I adored this painting. I was struck by the fact that you didn’t replicate the darkness of the dark rock, a trap I always fall into as contrasts are important, but your contrasts were perfect and you NEVER lose the transparency. I really need to believe in this process, As you said Eric, and not get so frustrated and despondent. Thank you and glad to see you back. Oh, and I happen to love cats. 😊

I don't really think about those most of the time 😅 it's important to get familiar with your palette and find what works for you ☺️

I know what you mean, but even though I'm familiar with my pallet, sometimes it's helpful for the students to know what color mix is the best for that particular tone we liked. Your approach to color mixing is valuable! ☺️

Would you ever try to re-wet the paint after it has dried and lift it away with a clean, damp brush? I really like your paintings and would care to know your opinion on this. Thanks!
@Cafewatercolor
@Cafewatercolor 2 жыл бұрын
I try not to do that because it won't look as clean especially if you are doing it to larger area. But I did that a few times, sometime it turns out ok =)
@colorfulwater5070
@colorfulwater5070 2 жыл бұрын
@@Cafewatercolor Cool! I know what you mean. I am working on making my work lighter (weight, not value), and I know that lifting can be holding that back.

Could you have just printed or copied your cropped photo in black and white for a value study
@Cafewatercolor
@Cafewatercolor 2 жыл бұрын
you can. But part of the process to do a value study painting is to have it process in your mind. And you get an extra chance to practice =)
Why is simplifying your painting so hard? The mindset to create a loose painting
