I'm developing one that uses the 35mm cassette. It just drops inside the camera and you shoot on it as though it were film. The chip extends out from the cassette just the way the film does, and attaches to the winding mechanism on the right. As the "film" is wound on, it sets up the next photo. You adjust the "film" prior to inserting it into the camera, setting film speed, etc. The cassette then contains an SD card which is removed for downloading. Eventually there will be a Bluetooth chip included.

Jack, is this REALLY real? Are you going to release any info on your design and progress? You describe what I have been imagining... a digital insert that you pre-set to mimic the ISO (or as I remember it... ASA) of a film roll, then insert into the camera to be used just like film. Pop out the SD card and transfer the images to a computer to "re-live" the once-common moment of "getting your prints back". ;P

If you have a analogue camera there is a light sensitive roll inside, 12 or 36 exposed images. I think a modern flex ccd sensor in a roll is the way we need to for reuse the old analogue camera’s..... like the Samsung fold Smartphone can work why not a flex ccd film in a roll ? including storage chip like a flash memory 36 expose images and can be erased, works as a normal film roll almost no need for electronics in site, after the exposed "film” you can rewind it as a normal film, take it out and put it in a wireless holder or usb c to transport the pictures to your computer, and erase the ccd film roll place it back and reuse it. The CCD film is just like a regular film roll set for the ISO and DIN values, so there are different light strength rolls available, just like with the old system. Power with a 12v car key or Airco battery exchange every load.

That is a really nice idea. Is there any chance to get this working with old Instamatic cameras? Unfortunately the film cartridges aren't made anymore and the Workaround with 35mm film is not so appealing. Would love to see this available for Instamatic.

Hello! You will have a diaphragm priority (to choose the depth of field you prefer) and the rest will be the I'm Back module. The exposure is controlled by the I'm Back, but you can change the EV + or-, ISO from auto to manual (100 to 1600). Support this idea! goo.gl/uGv9LZ

Ok, interesting koncept. I know MF digital backs are a small fortune (Phase One, Hasselblad etc.). Really cool, but some questions arise: What exposure latitude or amount f-stops douse it have? Will it support colour RAW in the future? Douse/will the digital back have a PC-sync port?

Hi! Thanks for your comment! Ok, normally the I’m Back offer the diaphragm priorit, and you use you other normal camera controls. Yes, the actual production have a color RAW. You use the sincerity cable for switch a I’m Back, or not (in studying the total manual function). ;-)

I'm Back - Digital back for analog cameras, digital I understand but photography is changing if we are honest I can take that same image with my cell phone apply an art filter to get superior results. What I would like is a good digital back that can capture a quality image. I shoot film because it looks better than digital. Your back is not even superior to an iPhone printing to an instax printer like the Fuji sp printer. if it was sharp and acted like film it would be useful as a test image in the studio the images I see look soft ? I’m guessing the distance to focal plane was an issue.

Is this a joke? What benefit, in terms of sheer image quality, at least, will converting an analogue camera to digital really gain? Those who want to use film should simply do so, shouldn’t they? Film and digital sensors are essentially very different from each other. The logarithmic response to light, that film has, cannot be replicated with the linear one from a digital sensor.

maybe in the hopes manufactures would start to actually cater to the analog community since they keep screwing up the "vintage style" cameras all the time. the only camera true to the experience is a leica and for most, that is unreachable. nikon screw up the DF and ZFC by making an analog style camera with too much crap built in. Fuji make great analog type cameras but not built as solid as the vintage cameras and not true rangefinders. so maybe its time, nkion, canon, etc start paying attention to that market that is still buying vintage cameras and film and start designing even just one model camera to fit the needs of analog photographers. dont need a walmart camera of options. just make a manual focus Full frame camera, one shutter dial, ISO dial and done. its not that its hard, its jus that they think everyone cares about a camera that can shoot stills and can shoot 4k video. long live analog.
