I'd love to hear your thoughts on the Spirit song. Granted, Zep ripped off EVERYONE pretty blatantly (not that that's a horrible thing, but they rarely gave credit early on, which IS horrible), but that always felt particularly egregious since it's probably generated a billion dollars for them since it's release and (until relatively recently), Page, Plant and the rest took full credit for writing it.

Just wanted to add that your Love Supreme episode was great & even though you're not a jazz expert, you were able to connect the dots from a rocker's perspective, and if any of those New York jazz-snobs expected more, the hell with them. You mentioned the rockers who were influenced by Trane, and gave very insightful thoughts on the spiritual importance of the album. Plus you mentioned the church of Coltrane in SF, which added depth to your review. Maybe you can do a redux later on, but take it from me, it was a very uplifting episode of vinyl Monday, and I give it an A+

I wouldn't pretend to know Jazz but I do cherish "A Love Supreme". May I also recommend a posthumously released Coltrane album from the early 70s called "Living Space".

Ok so I'm chilling in my PJs, catching up on a little knitting project, and I see ENGLISH SETTLEMENT is in your collection! I actually shouted "YES!" at the screen, then realised, when you gave me shoutout, that I'm basically just a caricature of myself at this point. 😂 Also! That George Harrison album is on my wish-list - I literally almost bought it this afternoon, then talked myself out of it. And 3+3 has one of my all-time-favourite songs on it. I think it got a mention in our crossover episode. Can't wait to hear your thoughts on both of those. Fantastic update!

My sister gave me a copy of Hendrix In The West, but it was in such terrible condition, my turntable refused to play it. I spent the next 10 years or so in every used record store and record show searching for a better copy of it. And then one day, the universe smiled down on me and I found it at a record show. It was/is in absolutely wonderful condition and was marked at $5. It's still my finest moment in record collecting. His version of Johnny B. Goode is jaw-dropping.....

Yay, that's a great Spirit album! They're only the greatest band ever to come out of LA (the Doors pull up a distant third, behind Arthur Lee & Love). You mention them occasionally, usually RE "Taurus"/"Stairway" but I look forward to an in depth Spirit episode some day! It's a fascinating story, especially the ill fated 1984 reunion tour and Randy's mysterious death by drowning -

You are correct about Jimi doing Sgt Pepper at the Savill theatre in June 1967. It’s in the movie “Jimi all is by my side’ that’s a movie you will like ! But I don’t think it was a few hours to get the arrangements together. I suspect he had the record for a few days. According to the late Tony Bramwell he gave Jimi and Chas a advanced copy at least the week before. But still a gutsy thing to do with Paul in the audience! Lol

Yup, this is true. Not hours, but days. Still amazing. Paul McCartney definitely heard Jimi Hendrix's live rendition of "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band", and he was absolutely blown away by it. It happened just three days after The Beatles had released the album in 1967. Hendrix kicked off his concert at London’s Saville Theatre on June 4th by covering the title track, which was a bold and spontaneous move. McCartney and George Harrison were in the audience that night, and Paul has since shared how incredible it was to hear Hendrix pull off such a fresh and unique take on the song so soon after it came out. He was amazed that Jimi had learned it that fast and then made it his own with his signature, mind-bending guitar work. It was a huge compliment to The Beatles, and McCartney has said it was one of the most unforgettable moments for him-just to see Hendrix, one of the greatest guitarists ever, give that song such a wild, electrifying performance!

"Days of Future Passed" is so wonderful, might be a top 10 album for me. The Moody Blues should be mentioned in the same breath as the all-time legends of classic rock; their music is so beautiful. I also love George Harrisons self-titled album.

Adding 2112 to the season will be a fascinating . But…the less regarded, though far more notable album from Rush’s catalog is A Farewell to Kings. This one heralded the double-neck guitars, synthesizers up the yingyang, and massive drum kits with tubular bells and temple blocks.

Having been born in the middle of the previous century, and becoming seduced into becoming a professional musician, I might be your target audience. Your Strawberry Alarm Clock LP reminded me of one of my favorite concerts. In 1967, The Beach Boys arrived in Maryland. I was in the front row with my band. The opening acts were an unknown band called "Buffalo Springfields" (yes, misspelled Springfields), and a barely known act called Strawberry Alarm Clock. We were so blown away that we bought the first Springfield album and learned it top to bottom -- which destroyed our career working at teen dances. Oh well. Richie Furay got a laugh out of that when I told him about it years later. Keep up the great work, and try to get to Poco one day. Very influential.

It had been announced a few hours in advance.... and everybody joined in to be part of that magical moment. This is how great the FAB's impact was at the time. During a road trip in the early 80s, I discovered my favorite radio station of all time, KRQX out of Dallas. One year on April Fools Day, this station celebrated the day by playing one-after-another, every version of “Louie, Louie”, they could get their hands on, which I found absolutely hilarious!

I'd love to see you cover more jazz, especially 50s and 60s jazz. Brubeck, Coltrane, Wes Montgomery, Bill Evans, etc. Or even Pat Metheny, although he didn't get started until the late 70s/early 80s. George Harrison's self-titled album? One of my favorite albums! I originally had it on 8-track tape back in high school, and if I remember correctly, I bought it at a truck stop during a school band trip (I played trumpet in band). I got back on the school bus with it, tore off the plastic wrap and pushed it into the portable 8-track player I carried with me on trips back then to listen to it for the first time. I was pleasantly surprised to recognize the two singles that had been released from the album, but all the songs are interesting, with Harrison's unique style stamped into them, like Here Comes The Moon, a sequel of sorts to Here Comes The Sun. And of course, like all of my favorite albums, I ended up getting it on vinyl and later on cd as well. I also like the early 70s Fleetwood Mac with Bob Welch, so yeah, Bare Trees and especially Mystery To Me. It's so interesting to watch Christine McVie grow as a songwriter during this period. If you're willing to cover later Eric Clapton, I'd definitely recommend 1985's Behind The Sun. This split-personality of an album also has some interesting background, with only some of the Phil Collins-produced songs ending up on the album instead of being fully produced by Phil. And if you like King Crimson, and apparently you do, it's inconceivable to me that you wouldn't like other progrock from the 70s, like Yes, Genesis, and Emerson Lake and Palmer. But some people are just turned off by prog for various reasons. And I really like 80s King Crimson, with Adrian Belew in the lineup, but it's quite a different sound from 70s King Crimson. And while you may not be into singles much, they might be a good way to do shorter videos when you get tired of writing these longer ones, or need a bit of a break. Just a thought.

Oh, that Amboy Dukes album with those rollng papers is a *hilarious* idea. Curious what it said about "lost stereo master", though, cos I've had that album on CD for 30+ years and it's definitely in stereo... I don't know, maybe it was produced from vinyl or something. MX-80 Sound were a kind of art-rock/punk crossover that sprang up around 1977, so yes, definitely some new wave stuff going on there. That album is the only one of their's I've heard, but it has "Someday You'll Be King" which has recently become one of my favourite punk-era tunes. Pretty good on the whole.

The Moody Blues! You have been remis in skipping the first real concept album - Days of Future Passed, but all is forgiven! What an amazing album and a great find. That looks like a German or UK pressing which is a great find for an antique mall! Gotta love late 60s Deram/Deccca records with those amazingly shinny "clarifol" outer jackets. I would love a full album review here as the album as a whole is a tour de force. The Moody's put out Days, On the Threshold of a Dream, In Search of the Lost Chord and To Our Children's Children's Children in a two year period which is crazy when you look at the quality of the song writing and production involved. All this to say: A Moody's episode is well worth your time. Cheers!

I like Marc Bolan and The Slider - I wish I could of seen the movie that Ringo Starr was making while it was recorded. I remember seeing a picture of Bolan, Ringo and Elton John at the piano in a big room somewhere around that time. Don't think Elton John was ever on any T Rex albums, but you never know.

"Astral Weeks" is my most loved Van Morrison album, closely followed by "Moondance". I also love Jack Bruce "Songs for a Tailor". "Hendrix in the west" has the best version of "Little Wing" on it. The early Fleetwood Mac with Peter Green's soulful voice & guitar, is longer lasting than the later Mac, for me anyway.

I remember finding that We Love You/Dandelion 45 second hand back in the late '80s. It was surprisingly playable. Maybe that's why it was in the op shop - not what you'd call classic Stones but it was one of the big numbers in the early '80s Paisley Underground because of that. It was in a paper sleeve and on Decca (we followed U.K. packaging in Australia) and original. When either appeared on compliations they left out the audio references to each other that happen at the end of each side. Very cool to finally have them. Still have it.

Tiger Mountain is Eno's second album and Warm Jets is his first. To anyone unfamiliar w the order, Here Come the Warm Jets might seem second w its more polished performances and production sound. Both are good.
