Thanks for sharing your knowledge and for always saying forgiving things when it comes to newbie gardeners like myself. Glad to know someone else isn’t a huge fan of growing everything from seed. I don’t mind direct sowing and letting things get on with it, but I haven’t found the right process for starting seeds in trays or pots as yet. I do keep trying and am not ready to give up on it yet, but it is definitely not my favorite part of gardening at this point.

It's been tricky to get things into the ground with the wild amount of rain and having to find the motivation to pack up my car with my plants to get them over to my community garden plot. I also love to fertilize with an organic at transplant, but once late spring/early summer hits we have raccoons roaming at night, digging up everything we’ve just planted 😩😩😩 so I’m looking for something new, like the liquid Fox Farms options since there’s no smell to their formulas. Hmm, would the raccoons dig it up even if you mix into the soil and then maybe top with some mulch? That’s so frustrating I’m sure! Living in the city I don’t get much wildlife interference. Calcium nitrate makes nice dark green plants, better than amonia based nitrogem fertilizers.

yo dude what variety of marigolds do you grow? The ones in the video seem dope they are bunching and look like they are quick to flower. I went with cracker jacks this year and they are growing so tall and havent flowered yet. Bought a tray of frenchies and planted this weekend to assist

Sorry to be a downer but Concord grapes make awful wine. Very foxy. Also, the grape is from Concord, MA and is pronounced the way the town name is - like con-cerd not concorde (as in the plane). I was born in Concord, MA and worked in the Virginia wine industry for about 15 years. It makes fantastic jam and jelly.

I've heard that it isn't the best for wine, but I kinda want to try it anyways! I did not know about the pronunciation. Here, everyone says it how I said it. But, that's nice to know! Thank you! It does make great jelly- maybe I should take your advice and skip the wine lol

Just curious, how are your chickens doing in the heat? I’ve been struggling to keep mine cool in the PNW
@meggrowsplants
@meggrowsplants 7 күн бұрын
They’re definitely hot. I’ve been trying to keep them cool by adding some ice in their water and feeding them some frozen berries. I’ve also added more ventilation in their coop

For one to shame people for not gardening the way s/he prefers is arrogant. Everybody's resources are different. Starting from seed is less expensive and you have a much larger choice of types and varieties. But one needs the time, space and setup to do it. Starting from transplants takes advantage of the fact that some people enjoy seed starting and has the resources to mass produce. Mass production of plants is necessary for genetic diversity and development of locally adapted varieties.

Sounds like you have lots of chores too! Ants never really bother me in the garden. They’re great at decomposing and aerating the soil! Thankfully, I don’t deal with water bugs here!
