Strother Martin was a genius character actor. No wonder Paul had him in so many of his films. My favorite line of his in BUTCH AND SUNDANCE:: “Morons. I’ve got morons on my team. Nobody is gonna hit us going DOWN the mountain. Going DOWN the mountain we got no money. Comin’ back up...THAT’S when you can start to sweat!”
@spikehofmann

There's minor historical inconsistency here! The word moron was was coined by psychologist Henry H. Goddard in 1910. Butch and Sundance died in 1908.

Read something by the movie's screenwriter, the late, great, William Goldman, who said something to the effect that they knew making it that "nothing happened" in the movie, no specific goal or caper, and that everything rode on the audience liking the characters. So many great lines.

@Franco Spain You DO realize that the good guys in this movie are outlaws and the bad guys are corporate thugs. On getting this payroll job, they bushwhack and kill some Mexican bandits. Butch Cassidy laments at how the first time he ever killed anybody was when he was on the side of the law, after which they returned to robbing banks.
@waynej2608
@waynej2608 3 жыл бұрын
@@Kermit_T_Frog Well, the guys they shot, in self-defense were Bolivian, not Mexican. But, I get your point, and I concur. I think it should also be noted, that Butch and Sundance were real life characters. And while it's still a film, it seems they went out of their way to make it fairly accurate. Raindrops, Keep Falling on my Head, nothwithstanding.

@@waynej2608 I get tired of these of old farts longing for days that never were. People in the 70s were pretty much as "woke" then as they are now. My biggest pet peeve are the prudes lamenting all the sex on screen nowadays. If anything, there is less of that now than there was in the 70s. When most of these geezers were rummaging around the house looking for their father's stash of playboys.
