Don't know much about chickens but a heads up with the grow bags on your wood deck. After a bit of time it can start to rot out the planks. I started using raising them using blocks, scrap wood plant saucer, anything to let some air flow underneath.

I also crush up my chickens' egg shells and mix them in with their food. Chickens have to have "grit" to digest their food. Egg shells are perfect and helps the chickens maintain hard egg shells in the future

Go for it! Anything you plant for the chickens to eat will be eaten by them immediately. I use pine shavings for bedding, cheap and easy to clean up. Racoons will be your biggest problem as far as predators and they are really good at getting into coops. Blue egg layers get Cream Legbars, they're on the smaller side and pretty friendly. My biggest advice is a decent size dust bath for there mites. A sand box with water drainage will be great for them. I have had 6 hens in a dog kennel fence several times and they always did great. But i fed them all kinds of scrap food along with laying feed and crack corn. I always had way more eggs than i could ever consume without the help of families and friends. Keep in mind they love a a bit of direct sunlight also.

Remember you need the nests off the ground a way to scoop the crap out the bottom and easy access to everything inside

If you put mulch on the ground, when it's full of chicken poop you can add it to your compost

Don’t forget that they need an area of dusty dirt so they can bath. Don’t put anything back down after you remove the gravel.

From someone who had thousands of chickens on the farm its not what you think. Be ready for the whole yard to stink. Chicken waste all over everything. No matter how secure you make it you'll still wake up to dead chickens due to preditors. But good luck and get some oyster shells for better quality eggs.

Also any calcium supplement or (laying feed) would be more than sufficient for just a four or six hen egg production. You are talking about huge production.

Yeah, i have chickens and this is not going to work out well. Their poop is really stinky. But i think this will make for some very funny videos. My advice would be to scrap the idea. Go buy your eggs. Use fish carcasses for fertilizer and focus on the garden.

Setting up my new coop soon, we have had them before but eggs are ridiculous now and we enjoy the chickens. Chickens love green stuff like grass clippings and garden/table scraps, also makes for better eggs. Also chicken will eat small mice, freaked me out first time I saw it happen. You would think the small brown mice would be too big but they will swallow the whole freaking thing. We transport our chickens because up here we buy them grown, I use a dog carrier. Super protect from racoons, they will dig under or chew through wood to get to your chickens and they will eat the heads off the chickens and leave the rest. Racoons or any type of weasel. Snakes will eat you eggs and scare the crap out of you when you discover them in your nesting box. Golden Comet will lay the largest egg and more often, brown shell. They are a mix of white leghorn and road island red, Hearty birds for sure.. The blue/green eggs layers are great, the eggs will be a little smaller though. Fun fact…I live in Florida and my boss has chickens. When a hurricane comes and she has to take her three chickens…apparently an easy way to get them is wrap them in newspaper…I guess they calm down. Chickens are weird 😂. Love seeing all these vids boss.

Collect the chicken poop. It is the best fertilizer. Your plants will take off and grow like crazy.

You know it. I compost it with egg shells, vegetable leftovers and the wood chips I use to line the run. Do this and never buy fertilizer again.

The rocks should go. I would put dirt and grass down. Make yourself a chicken coop. Look it up on pintrest of KZbin a video on building a coop. Chickens like to roost really high off the ground. A secure chicken hen house inside the coop is one way. Or use that shed. That shed looks big enough to make a coop and storage. Make sure you keep your feed in metal cans. 55 gal drums work really well. Make sure they are food grade. Trash cans also. Make sure they aren’t galvanized. Use hey on the bottom of your shed floor.

Warning & tips... Pythons and alligators and maybe elliot love to eat chicken so be sure the wire for the cage has very small holes cause snakes can easily go through chicken wire holes. Chickens may like to eat honey bees... im not sure. Will they be free range, running around your yard and maybe your neighbors yards. Chickens like to scratch in the dirt looking for bugs to eat. Wnen i was young we bought a box of chicks and they all grew up to be roosters, roosters crow all day and night and of course dont lay eggs😁🐥🐣🐔

Better start with zoning laws some have laws preventing chickens within 60 feet of human habitation !!! Then noise ordinances can prevent from having a rooster and that can end egg production. I would start there before construction begins!!!

If u get a roster ur numbers going to kill u I’d go for a 8x8 or bigger of sparse for the chickens to run around and if u get chicks get a smaller mesh for the coup and make shura a raccoon can’t get in like u need a lock on the door
