Amazing additions to city! For the harbor area, aside from the usual things, maybe some things/styles from other areas of the world? Like I forget how this area connects with everything else, but perhaps some desert fishing boats or type of buildings (as an example), like someone from the desert moved there and brought a piece of home with them. Just an idea, it might not work out lol.

Lightmatica definitely seems like a great mod! The biggest turn off I have from bigger projects is that the planning means I have to do the whole project twice, but even more slowly the second time since I don’t have a second monitor for screenshots lol. Plus if it works for you, I think that’s all that matters.

I use Litematica and I've definitely given this exact question a lot of thought, especially with huge projects that I already spent hours building in creative. In my case, it really helps me to build everything in creative first because I can get into a flow state and stay in it without having to stop what I'm doing to go back and forth to storage, craft blocks, deal with mobs, repair my tools, etc. I have ADHD, so any one of those simple tasks could turn into a major distraction that pulls me out of the creative space i was in, and it gets really frustrating and makes the game less fun for me.
@fWhip
@fWhip Ай бұрын
I almost see it as 2 different projects.. first time is the creative process of designing, typically using mods like Axiom to help build faster and not really thinking about the survival limitations (outside of don't build with netherite blocks) then the 2nd time is about the survival grind to get the blocks and place them all in, both feel pretty different and like "fresh" projects to me!

One thing that I think would really compliment this world would be to make a giant farmers market somewhere in the city, with all the farms you plant each episode it makes sense for a farmers market to be going on. The fact that it does change nothing from the creative effort, nor change the amount of Blocks you had to farm makes it completely fone for me to use. I like the tuff better outside the city -- dulling the gates compared to the diorite on the main city walls helps communicate the different areas, I think. I see your point although personally I disagree. I think keeping to the diorite palette makes it seem like the county is in charge of the main city designs, but the civil buildings are more capitalism based where the inhabitants have free power to make what they want on the land they own. Just my personal perspective though

Let the university dwarf the tree from this angle! It’s all about perspective and coming in to the city you’ll want that university to be a massive drawing point. Once you get into the city you’ll see that the tree is the true focal point and it’ll be a really cool effect.

Personally, my hope is that you contrinue this project past your plans, maybe after you finish what you've been working on, you slowly begin wrapping the city around the giant magical tree, so it sits in the center of your megopolis. Perhaps an elven district on the outskirts that have treehouses amongst a scattering of normal buildings (either shop fronts or where the normal humans would live), an artisan district, and a training grounds for the city's militia?

For the stony beach out by the mud brick castle you could put in a small hamlet-style village, meaning just a couple of houses and basic facilities like a small smithy or something, and add in a small fishing dock to both sides of the river, or more like a ferry dock, and the Hamlet would be the castles support village, giving the castle food and labor in extange for protection, like how it worked irl.

I know that you have said no sci-fi in this world but maybe you could add ruins of a sci-fi city that is overgrown. You could also add wagons that lead back to the city bringing pieces of the buildings and rusted machinery, so that it could be studied either at the university or by the dwarves. Just an idea. Edit: If you want to tie it more into the magical aspect of your world, you could build it around some giant obelisk which use to give the city power; however the obelisk eventually ran out of power causing it to collapse and the city to eventually fall into ruin.

I really liked the introduction and tips on how to build a city in Minecraft. A year ago, you inspired me to set up my own survival world (currently 900 days), in which I build a city of tenements. I personally hate building things in creative mode and then building them in survival mode, even with Litematica. For me (building everything live survival) the most important tip is to make an full outline, even if you have a plan in mind on how to create the build. At the beginning of my journey I didn't know about it. Once I learned this, my builds became much better and more thoughtful. I think a lot of people overlook this tip, but it is very important.

i think it would be cool to add some kind of observatory maybe? like the vibe youve got here is very medieval fantasy esque, and some sort of rudimentary telescope system or general astronomical observatory wouldnt be too out of place - if you look back at medieval type eras early astronomy had such a cool aesthetic to it, and it would be a cool thing to place on top of a mountain or hill somewhere, maybe with some eccentric weirdo or wizardy-type who all the other city residents stay away from and theres not a lot of proper buildings in the vicinity. maybe it could even be a place to store paper or books or something - somewhere theyre researching the stars and the lands around them? idk but thanks for being such a great source of inspiration in everything you do :)

I think the diorite could represent federal funding or function. The city wall is more than likely funded and maintained by taxes. The wall is also made, in function, to protect the city. As for the bridge, maybe you mix diorite with he green oxidized copper to symbolize funds from the city but function for the harbor. That design motif can be continued for industrial districts, similar to the roof colors of city districts.

Maybe behind the bridge where the river thins out, you could make like an abandoned Hamlet/ City district that sinks slowly into the water (like one or two Blocks with mud Islands and scrawny little trees Inbetween?) it could make for some cool scenery and maybe you can even put some lore into it. Maybe there used to be a smaller fishing village but when the river Was dug out for bigger boats to arrive, the land a Lil more upriver tried to eroded a little more downstream, kind of undermining the Hamlet. Or you could maybe put a Wellspring /Wellspring temple there?

I've seen patterns and shapes on cliffs like that related to water sloshing up against it, and what I would like to suggest is that perhaps this harbour area is prone to seasonal flooding that shaped the cliffs over millenia. Really cant explain how much of a sense of scale the cliff face and Harboe added, i love it. Also, cant wait to see the gigantisk university sitting on top of the cliff

For the cave area you were thinking of doing for the dwarven area, you should do a crystal cave with different coloured crystals made of stained glass with maybe froglights or shroomlights as light sources. Could be a secret entrance into the area to give a pop of colour in the cave.

Like the tuff blocks better for the outer gate, feel like it fits better with the dirty aesthetic of the harbor wall
