Thanks for sharing that story of Jazz and her friend! We talk to Alice about autism and Zac being nonspeaking. At the moment she doesn't seem to quite get it completely but she does understand her brother doesn't talk and has a special diet. They are so smart and I agree being open from the get-go is best.

Jazz is so cute. She is so sweet. Yes my boy is definitely a chicken nugget eater. He just turned 11 and it is still the best go to

I think we're going to be cooking chicken nuggets for his whole life haha

My 3yr old autistic boy loves chicken nuggets! And I completely empathize with your mom heart about the “healthier diet” desire… but a fed kid is best! Hope the chaos passes soon ❤

My Autistic son (3yrs) doesn't like chicken. But he looooves beef rissoles, so that's sort of equivalent. He only eats a meal at home. He's too overwhelmed when we go out. He'll have a snack if he's in the pram or a carseat though. Totally agree that there needs to be a little more benefit of doubt for parents. The vast majority aren't totally careless about diet.

ooh ill have to try beef rissoles! do you have a recipe? or is it store bought
@sewathome Жыл бұрын
@Aussie Autism Family It's a family recipe. I have tweaked it a bit over the years. The basic recipe is: 500 grams of beef mince 1 onion (we use 1 cup of frozen diced onion) 1 egg 2 TBS of tomato paste 1/4 cup of flour mixed herbs minced garlic and minced ginger to taste (maybe try a teaspoon each first and work up to how you like it). Combine it all and roll into balls, coat them with bread crumbs. Fry in a pan with about a cm of oil. I've recently replaced the flour with 100g of sourdough discard. I'm planning to make my own sourdough breadcrumbs at some point. For the sake of my gut health, although I do love the taste of sourdough too 😋 We usually have a side of veges and mash potato. We'll be having these for dinner tonight 😊 (actually every Wednesday night). We have 4 meals a week that are always the same, and it works really well for us. I know a lot of people would be bored by that, but those nights are always peaceful meals where the kids eat heaps. Jep comes in the kitchen to see what's on for dinner and these regular meals are always a cause for enthusiasm. Hope you like the rissoles, Much love, Kat.😊

Kids are more intuitive than we give them credit for. It's good that Jazz has someone to talk to that can truly relate to her situation with her brother. I had a question about how you discipline Jacob for him to be able to understand that there are things he cannot do, simply for his safety and for others. Please don't misunderstand my question of you as a parent; I have watched your videos for a while now and think you do an awesome job. It's just for my own understanding as Jacob is getting bigger and older, so I'm curious as to how he will know about the things you want to keep him safe from.

honestly we try but aren't very successful, as it will lead into sensory overload and meltdowns. We now have lockable doors in place to separate Jacob from doing something dangerous to himself or others

Hello, My Grandson is nearly 4 years old with Autism .I have read there is regression Autism. Which explains the 2year old regression. But my grandson has had more than one regression. I cannot find any research on this . Just wondering if you have found this to of happened in you adorable little boy?
@aussieautismfamily Жыл бұрын
I'm not 100% sure if he's had more, he's had his skills go up and down over his lifetime. Not sure what constitutes a regression though

Autistic burnout can (often) look like "regression". It's widely misunderstood. Definitely worth researching. I can provide resources if you'd like!

I honestly don't understand the people who think they know the children better than their parents. Don't be discouraged by the negative comments some people give you. You are doing your best for your children.
