The best part of the TDR is hanging out at the YWCA for a few days before the start and meeting all the other riders, the collective energy of the community is amazing. My advice to any TDR rider is to remember, your goal is to get to Mexico, not to be the fastest rider down the mountain. Stay out of the ER. I got to meet Mathew Lee. He was very gracious, kind and generous with is time giving me route information and advice. I was in last place, I finished in 50 days. The TDR changed my life. I’m still bikepacking at 69 and yes I’ve done the HURACAN twice.

Wishing you all the best for your ride, Ryan. I got back into cycling last year after many years off the bike. By chance I stumbled across the first episode of your GDMBR series, and was hooked! And I also got hooked on bike packing, and spent the last year optimizing my bike and researching and buying all the kit I needed. I did my first trip a couple of weeks back and loved every second. I have you to thank for that, Ryan. Thank you for introducing me to the world of bikepacking, and for changing my life! Oh, and I am planning doing the GDMBR myself in 2026!
@kathleenhart7076 ай бұрын
That series of Ryan’s videos also got me hooked! I live in Australia and will never get to ride GDMBR but we have the Munda Biddi Trail which is my goal in either 2025 or 2026.
@LostandMeandering6 ай бұрын
Never say never. If it is in your heart to ride the GDMBR, make it happen! I live in the UK so will cost me a fortune, hence why 2026 as I need to save up for flights, time off work (self employed so no paid holidays) as well as the cost of doing the ride itself.

In August I am finally going to get to use my Priority 600X for a ride I had hoped to do in 2020 but couldn’t. 4 of us are going to Jasper and ride the Ice Fields Parkway to Banff. We will pick up the Great Divide Trail there and ride to Whitefish MT. At 72 I’m grateful to have the health and fitness to be able to undertake this adventure. I have learned a lot about off road bike packing from your videos. I have done road touring but this is my first off road experience. I know my days will always start off, no crashies, no flatties, no whammy’s! That seems to be the secret to having a great day! Again, best of luck on the race!
