I was sure that this performance is to your taste! Everything here is superlative, the song, the whole band, the Argentinian audience singing like at a football match. A dream. Troy Donockley is a multi-instrumentalist from the UK who collaborated with Nightwish starting with their 2007 album and became a permanent member of the band together with Floor in the summer / autumn of 2013. According to Wiki, the instruments he plays are: Irish Pipes (Uillean pipes), whistle, guitar, keyboard, bass guitar, bouzouki, cittern, bodhrán, mandola, harmonium. In this song he sang on the Uillean pipes, and in "The Greatest Show On Earth" - Wembley Arena he sang the introduction on the electric guitar using an e-bow, then on the low whistle and the Uillean pipes. Troy also has a beautiful voice, very suitable for backup vocals as well as solo vocal moments, for example you heard him at the end of "Perfume Of The Timeless". After Marco's retirement from the band at the end of 2020, Troy took over many of his backing vocals sequences in the 2022 and 2023 life concerts. You know that I also thought about this: what were the chances that we would be contemporaries with Nightwish?..

What Troy is playing is called "uilleann pipes" (ill-ean) - a form of a bagpipe that's played by squeezing a bag under the arm rather that blowing into it. Also, in case you didn't notice, Troy also sings. Since Marko left, Troy has taken over a lot of the backing harmonies.

Troy is the master of the Uilleann (Ill-en) pipes, the Irish bagpipes. Uilleann means "elbow" in Gaelic. The air is pumped through bellows into the bag by the elbow. Beautiful instrument, isn't it? I love it! And I love this song, always makes me happy! And indeed we're blessed with NW in our lives!

You hit it right on the mark, Amie!! I would have loved to been around hear Bach, Mozart, Rimsky-Korsakov; but I am so happy to live in the time of Tuomas Holopaiinen. No genius composer lives in a vacuum, performance makes the composition come to life, and part of Tuomas' genius is surrounding himself with virtuoso musicians who perform his masterpieces with passion. Just look at Emppu's face while he is playing. Has there EVER been anybody who enjoys making music more the Emppu? Troy is too talented to completely understand, the dude plays twelve instruments and sings. The uiIlleann pipes are highly difficult to play and he's perfection, and you will see as you progress just how valuable he is. When you feel like a quieter side to the genius composer, AURI features Tuomas, his wife/singer Johanna Kurkela and Troy in fantasy inspired music that is relaxing and calming. All three compose and it's just brilliant. Keep the journey going, they will NEVER disappoint!

Thats's Troy playing the Uilleann pipes, an old Englis instrument, hard to play sounding much like bag pipes. Thanks for not calling them that, LOL! Troy was harmonizing with them, he now sings with Floor since Marco left, but more harmonizing. Y ou should listen to them more recent, say Hellfest '22. Great concert.

Another great reaction! You got to love the crazy South American metal fans. You can always count on them to take the show to the next level. The chant from the crowd was an adaptation of the local football(soccer) club chant praising Nightwish. Troy is playing the Uillieann Pipes, the national bagpipes of Ireland. They differ from Scottish bagpipes in that they use a bellows under the right arm to inflate the bag leaving the mouth free for singing (Troy was singing harmony along with Marko and Floor) or having a pint while playing in the pub. Uillieann is Gaelic for elbow. This song is from the Imaginaerum album, a concept album about a composer on his deathbed looking back on his life. This song is about the desire to return to our youth where we felt everything more passionately. As we get older and gain experience we became jaded and look at life with less joy and wonder. Thus the composer's desire to "want my tears back" i.e. to once again feel things strong enough to cry. This song is a mainstay of Nightwish setlist's and both the band and fans love it. It has such great energy. When I saw them live in 2022 when Floor started dancing Emppu cleared out of the main stage and hung out by Troy to make sure his 5' 3" self doesn't get run over by Floor. I have seen some other video's where she tries to get Emppu to dance with her but he comically declines!

Troy Donockley is an English multi-instrumentalist with a Celtic folk-rock background, here playing Uilleann Pipes, but often playing Irish Low Whistle and bazouki with Nightwish. Plus some of his other instruments. Some info: Troy plays: Uilleann pipes, tin whistle, vocals, guitar, keyboards, bass guitar, pump organ, bouzouki, cittern, bodhrán, mandola, harmonium, aerophone On the pipes(please learn the setlist): "You have to be slightly insane to play them. They're not easy." "Tuomas told me he'd been working on "The Eyes of Sharbat Gula" for a while without really hitting the mark. As I was listening to an early demo I thouht it sounded so intriguingly hypnotic that it really didn't need explanatory lyrics. When I mentioned this to Tuomas he said it had never occurred to him to think it like that. The song became an instrumental although there are some ethereal human voices in the background." TONI: Troy, the other new member, didn't have to jump in as dramatically [as Floor], but he has become an irreplaceable part of this group, too. If there's tension in the air for some reason, Troy casts a spell and magically dispels the bad vibes. EWO: Troy radiates the kind of cheerfulness that we sulky northerners can only dream of, but I guess some of his positive attitude has rubbed off on us, too. TUOMAS on touring with Troy: We start preparing about 30 minutes before the show [New York Hammerstein 2915], each of us in his or her own way. Floor changes on her stage clothes and warms up her voice in her dressing room, while we`re warming our fingers in ours. Back in the day, I used to get scared stiff before the show - it was just nauseating, pure horror. It all changed when Troy did some kind of a hypnotic trick to me in Los Angeles in 2012. I really don't know what happened during those twenty minutes, but afterwards, I haven't really panicked before going on stage

But I like how you noticed as you being a musician yourself about things like time sinatures out of pocket sounds and guitar tones vocals as well. By the way that instrument he is playing is known as a ulien bagpipe . And if you noticed but if you didn't take a look who the drummer is for this video doesn't the drummer look familiar to you pastor amie? Why of course it Kai the human drum machine from wintersun which you have already reacted to 3 Wintersun songs Already with kai as the drummer for wintersun. And yes you previously was trying to think whose floors vocals reminded you of a 80s singer which you were right in comparing floors vocals to pat benatar which floor sounds exactly like pat benatar I agree. And for myself and my mother Cathy and my fellow hurricane relief volunteers we went out of our way to watch this reaction today we are all big wintersun nightwish epica and ensiferum fans here in Huntsville Texas to take our minds at least for a little while anyway from our hurricane damaged town with your help pastor amie in spending time with you. Troy plays many instruments… including these Irish Bagpipes… differing from the normal Scottish Bagpipes in that you don’t blow in it, instead the bellows are inflated using a strap around the elbow area…. This lets the musician sing as well as play at the same time. Many traditional Irish folk bands use these Uillean pipes.

Party time, emotional release half way through the set.. You just saw an English piper in a Finnish band play an Irish bagpipe while a Dutch singer got an Argentinian crowd to dance a jig. Emppu was bemused by Floor's interaction with the crowd, grinning and shaking his head in disbelief. Never saw a happier band or happier audience. To see what Marko really can do, watch a couple of covers from the 2005 "End of an Era" dvd, Tarja's last performance. They cover Pink Floyd's "High Hopes" and "The Phantom of the Opera"

I've primarily played bass for 30 years now, and I still struggle singing and playing at the same time when I'm practicing. For some reason though, live is a whole different thing. Back round '79-82, I used to go to Portland' s East Ave Tav on east Burnside, around 12th, iirc. Friday nights, there was often an Irish jam session with some true pro musicians (KevinBurke and Micheal O'Domhniail ex of the Bothy Band, trying to escape an exploding Northern Ireland at the time). There would always be Irish flute players, Bodhran players, and loads of guitarist, irish bouzouki players (Troy also plays those) showing up with even more singers. It was full on bedlam when that place got rolling on something like The Kesh Jig, or Jenny's Welcome To Charlie. Every once in a while, someone would bring in the Uileean pipes and the place would careen like a 3-legged stool rolling down hill. BTW, when you said 'double kicks', listen carefully to what Kai is playing. he rhythms and accents aren't just a straight 8:8 beat. There's a 'skiffle/skip' rhythm reminiscent of the beat on the skin of a bodhran. It's amazing how close he gets to the real thing. Being a kid barely 21, I got very few chances to play with the big guys, but it was always a treat when I did. This brings it all back. Trad Irish can be so aggressive. It is the acoustic cousin of metal.
