Everyone seems to have answered your questions but I just wanted to interact for the boost. I can tell within the first few minutes of watching someone play if they have a basic understanding of game mechanics or not (and the "nots" are entirely too frustrating to watch) and the fact that you clearly do understand earned the sub. I will warn you slightly - Subnautica fans are VERY helpful. In some cases probably a little over helpful. Occasionally pat us on the collective head and remind us to hush and enjoy watching someone fall in love with our favorite game for the first time.

It always boggles my mind when people that have been playing games for years and years don't understand basic game mechanics when it comes to a new game. Sometimes I even think that it must be on purpose cause, there' no way if you've played "X" game, you don't immediately understand how "Y" game works.

I know you questioned them and their seemingly nonsense design, but the Floaters are really cool ecologically. The idea of the helium layer produced by the organism on the outside of it's "shell" is that it makes fish and other things the main creature attaches to super buoyant so they float to the surface and ultimately asphyxiate because they're above water and can't breathe. This lets the inner creature peacefully feed on the corpse and leech from it without risk of detaching until the inner creature has had its fill and can detach, vent the helium to sink again, and find something new to latch onto.

Funnily enough Floaters aren't that bizarre considering here on Earth we have Siphonophores. People often mistake them for Jellyfish as they look and act almost the exact same at first glance but Siphonophores are multiple organisms working together. Floaters being 2 organisms or groups of organisms living together is not shocking in comparison to what Siphonophores do on earth today. They'll even link up more and more and become extremely looooong gooey looking strings in order to feed more efficiently. They're extremely cool creatures that are very "alien" from a basic viewpoint and yet somehow the universe has made them on Earth. Also I love people reading and it's actually kinda cool they made a pretty realistic checklist and information dump for survival in this game cause typically before you go diving you're supposed to do an entire checklist and briefing to make sure everything is in order for the dive. Reading the checklist fulfills some spot of immersion, at least for me anyways and that was what really made this game so fun even when it's fantasy.

My timing on looking for new Subnautica playthroughs sure paid off today! Always fun watching someone play this for the first time, glad you're enjoying it. Regarding PDA Pause, absolutely use it if you want to since it's not really making the game any easier except reading PDA entries while not consuming food/water. I would recommend turning it off before you start the game's ending (you'll know when you get there). There's still a bug that hasn't been fixed that can prevent the sound from playing properly during the ending if it's turned on. Regarding reading in general, personally I like watching people read & react to everything in the PDA but if you don't want to read it all then it's up to you. A lot of the articles are just worldbuilding/background that might not mean anything to your gameplay (the level of detail is extremely extensive but also very good). I would recommend at least skimming the entries to make sure you see if they have any use or if there's important information like you were doing near the end.

Few tips: 1. Scan and read EVERYTHING, that scanner and your databank will be your best friend. If you get stuck, take a look through your PDA and see what you can find. 2. Always carry around at least 1 beacon. It will save you so many headaches if you find something cool and need to come back later. 3. Keep exploring and pushing forward through new areas. This might seem obvious but it's easy to be blind sighted by creatures like the stalker and want to avoid an area because of deterrents in it. Wish I could play Subnautica for the first time again, I envy you. You've got this!

Turning on the pause while in PDA option was a good shout for recording, for when you need to talk and stuff. It's easy to feel overwhelmed with the amount of info that's thrown at you. The PDA databank has everything written down in long form, but any important or useful info will also be given to you in other locations. For plot, the most important thing are the logs you pick up, which basically all can be played as voice messages. Don't worry about reading every little thing, but if you ever feel there’s something you don't understand the answer is probably in your PDA somewhere. And if it is not, we'll be here with the tips 😊 Also watching you explore and work things out is literally what we're here for so you don't need to apologise for taking your time with it. There's a progression to everything, and we enjoy watching the journey that new players take.

You've probably heard this a bunch of times already, but as for the lack of "weapons" in the game, this game was under development during one of the school shootings, and the developers decided to make a game without guns in it as a kind of tribute to the victims. Probably the best decision they made during this game's development. As it really made the game much more of a horror game since you have minimal defense against some of the bigger enemies in the game. This is one of my favorite games of all time, really looking forward to the sequel.

Since you brought up desalination, I always understood it as the fabricator does desalinate the water, but it can't do anything about the bacterial content of the water without resources. So when you use bleach to make water, it uses bleach to kill the bacteria, and if you use the bladderfish, it acts as a filter and purifies the water that way!

Yes! I'm always on the lookout for a new blind Subnautica playthrough. Love that you're reading the PDA entries - they help explain so much. Scan everything is the best tip for this game, for sure. Also, picking up way too many acid mushrooms right off the bat is such a classic first time Subnautica player experience.

Ooo, also so stoked to see the biology degree coming into play! The game devs did a great job making the ecosystem in this game, and it's full of cool speculative biology.

Awesome seeing a new blind play-through, some tips from a man who has played far to much Subnauseous: Creature eggs: only useful if you want to make an aquarium later on, I never did anything with them, there are only 3 of the same type I even cared about, if you find one with a cute name take it and hatch it :D Large wrecks: I saw you found one, I think you can go inside 95% of them, either by finding a door you pull open, swimming though an exploded wall, swimming though a vent, or..... finding a tool to help open more.... reluctant doors. just swim around all exposed walls and you should find one or two of those options. ohh and there is usually goodies inside so I check all of them. Floaters: I hate them, They once attached my submarine and made it float to the surface, permanently.... but that was before I knew you could pick them up and before they fixed a bug that made them continue to float whatever they were attached to even after leaving the water. also: hmmmm...... when I can, I leave my habitat with just tools, food, and water. floaty lockers are good early game, and with out spoiling things when you get the build tool, I just made a.... Hallway? I don't remember the name, anyway I made one of those and filled it to the brim with wall lockers before I did any thing, else. ok enough tips. go struggle in the dark, cold, lonely, and possibly radioactive water. Continue scanning all the things! I was Impressed you scanned as much as you did! Awesome video!! Keeping going!!!

A zero G gym in space is an essential item. The idea is that when you are in a spacecraft travelling in zero-g your body starts to loose calcium in your bones due to lack of exercise - hence you need a gym when in space (to prevent bone and muscle loss) - IE the gym is a requirement for zero g travel. I have never played this, but would suggest you adopt your own compass search - nominate the main ship as North of your vessel and perform a search pattern starting North, then North East etc.Locations could even be mapped this way - e.g. Cave is NNE with distances measured as percentages of the distance to the large ship.

I wish I hadn't let this sit in my watch later queue for a couple of weeks. Time to play catchup, it looks like this might turn into one of my favorite playthroughs. Reads the data, scans things, uses the air bladder, thinks about things logically. Looking forward to spending some hours watching this one. Too bad you mentioned how it reminded you of Prey but Prey isn't in your playlists so you must have played that before the channel. That's my second favorite game to watch playthroughs of after Subnautica.

Very enjoyable playstyle. I don't think I've seen another youtuber beeing as thorough as you've been so far. It's quite frustrating to see other players swimming around, having no clue what to do and ask questions that could have been answered if they just took the time to read a little bit. So no, it isn't bad if you're reading alot, I salute you for it. ;-) Got a new SUB from me, I'm gonna enjoy following your journey through this absolute amazing game.

Loving the playthrough so far. When it comes to some of the more far-fetched seeming evolutionary adaptations, if we weren't accustomed to the creatures we have on our planet, some of what they've done to survive would seem like a near impossibility as well. And yes, I'm aware I'm just making excuses for a favorite game. 😁

Hey, here are three small tips that might help you avoid a bad experience. :) 1 - Floaters - Don't play with them, don't touch them, don't collect them. They can be fun, but they also carry a small chance to instakill your char, throw you through they sky, or simply corrupt/softlock your save. This is not a joke. 2 - You might find Timecapsules - You have a choice here. Those are sent by other players in their endgame. They might contain spoilers or high tech things. If you open them, you might get a cheap joke or a massive boost. 3 - Dropping objects might corrupt your save. It is sometimes unavoidable, but every dropped iten slightly increases you risk of the game bugging out.

@@CiszHelion floaters and the sea moth. One will slow you down two will keep you near the surface and three won't allow you to move at all. Avoid hitting those buoyant rocks.

I am terrible at finding those sorts of options so by the time I discovered I could have PDA pause I was used to not having it and I chose to keep as was with needing to go back to the lifepod to read databank info as a fun little bit of immersion Either way though I don't think PDA pause really adds an unfair advantage it's just a qol thing and let's players choose how they want to play - I'm pretty certain I'm not the norm! Maybe if you're playing on hardcore it would feel more cheaty but it's really fine I'm loving this play through. You are far far more competent than I first was (although I have now fully played through hardcore so im gonna brag)

9:34 It doesn't play anything because you activated the pause while in the PDA menu function. You swim faster with empty hands btw. (exception: the seaglide for obvious reasons). The first rule of Subnautica: Scan everything, read everything. And yes, we want to hear your opinions on everything. That's a big part of watching Subnautica Let's Plays. Corals are actually animals btw and are therefore fauna, not flora. You can leave eggs alone for now, you can't do anything with them yet. 1:32:16 No you are not. The seaglide stops working above water. You don't have to stress about time.

Anyways.... i wish you a lot of fun with that Gem of a Game.... and take your time, no pressure unless there is a countdown that says so ;-)

For the floaters: normally they attach to creatues not rocks and then pull the creatue up to the surface through thier helium layer (created by thier microrganisms) and suffocate it there so they can feed on it's body
Return Of The Ancients is PEAK BEYOND PEAK.
