Awhile back, I ran across a meme that relates to this topic, and I saved it for future use. I can't post the meme - I guess there's some sort of KZbin block against doing that - but here's the text: "Being in a relationship is about solving problems together. I think our society just needs to reevaluate how we feel about being single. We used to be pushed into marriage and starting a family. It's not the same anymore. You can be perfectly happy single and everyone is just finding this out.

my mom always used to tell me, "You'll never get married because you're too fussy." I would tell her that I'd rather be alone then LONELY in a relationship. I was lucky to find my husband rather later in life (we were both 35 when we met). Now that I'm widowed, I have NO desire to be out in that dating world again.

You know what's crazy? I got divorced after 34 years in February and while i wasn't looking for anyone else, i thought i would be better off. I think my ex did too. We're getting old and now my ex is looking for a home for us to be roommates in. I told him he can't bring women to the house and to my amazement, he said he's not worried about other women 😂. Maybe you should have had this mindset decades ago 😂. I do appreciate him for realizing that I deserve better and he's trying to keep me safe but my goodness. We could have stayed where we were.

79yo. Stopped "dating" at 53. I decided to stop actively looking but to remain open to meeting someone. I didn't choose well and it became apparent it was too risky in every aspect. I love being single and appreciate quality people to hang with. Life is more serene and fun this way. No entanglements.

It’s the Wild West out there for dating. I’ve been so happy being single but occasionally I look at Bumble just to see who’s out there and it’s frightening. Bathroom pics, fish pics, gym pics, messy/dirty home pics, poor grammar, uneducated, apolitical, or wildly Trumpist (when I have stated don’t even knock, but they don’t read profiles so it shouldn’t be as annoying as it is),and bios that seem oblivious to the intention of getting a date. It’s confusing and alarming and a hard no. A reminder that I love being single.

The problem I had was when I first met the women who ended up being psychopaths they manipulated me into believing that they were good people, but they weren’t, and unfortunately no one who knew them knew how they really were because they played a character around everyone else pretending to be saint like, so every single time something bad happened that they caused themselves they played a victim, and everyone else believed it. They’re all narcissists and sociopaths. I wasn’t looking for a relationship when I found the woman I’m with now.

I did online dating a year after my first husband died. I hadn’t been single since 1990 when I was 20. I think online dating after 50 is the island of broken toys. Something bad happened to each of us for us to end up here and we’re missing parts that are obsolete now. Plus we’re gen X nihilists, so we’re not that fun to live with. I did find my matching broken toy on bumble. He’s my date to watch the end of the world. We’re going to go out like Bonnie and Clyde before we’re getting on a damn train.

If, I felt I needed a long lasting relationship, the internet is the last place I'd look, if ever. I only ever had two things to look for when I looked into another human beings eyes, empathy and civility. Both seem to be severely lacking in almost all societies, around the world. I'm good too. Married 51 years and two grown people who seem to be good too--one in a stable relationship, the other happily single. Both experienced a community of friends that didn't see dating as an essential part of their teenage and young adult years.
