Thou shalt not krill. Nature intends krill for sea creatures, not for consumption by yum-yum Costco octogenarians (these are not to be confused with Neah Bye cephalopods). It would be interesting to see a development of differential equations for predicting a shrinking of the krill biomass. To focus on variables like the removal of krill from the biomass by human fishing and the increasing demand by human markets for krill products by various countries. Taking into account a natural expanding and shrinking of this biomass by seasonality (Temperature). And to statistically predict the decline towards extinction of various and important legitimate krill predators such as baleen whales, penguins. Parameterized for the Antarctic Ocean.

In my opinion, the course videos are more valuable because you can slowly build a deeper understanding of very complex and profound concepts for mechanisms that cannot be fully understood in one video - no matter how interesting the topic is. I hope this isn't too late! I would really love more videos on learning how to learn mathematics, specifically proof-based mathematics. The video of yours that I've replayed a dozen times is your math mind map video. I've gotten into mind maps and non-linear notetaking, but a lot of the resources are from a medical student and law student perspective and I'd love to see more of the pure math take where leaning on pictures instead of words is expanded on. Another piece of advice for learning is relating ideas to your real life, and I find that funny when trying to apply that to math because it seems like mathematicians created math because it was simple and beautiful and not like real life at all. The abstraction and disconnect from real life is what's supposed to be the enjoyable part but I think that makes it hard to grasp and learn when you get to higher levels. I've also heard from professors that it is good to have intuition sometimes but you don't want to be fooled by your intuition. When I'm learning something I want to imagine in my mind's eye what's happening, when I get to n-dimensional processes, what do I do when I can't trust what I imagine anymore?

I think the best video you could make would be one where you show your process for learning new content. For example maybe you read a chapter of a math textbook with new content you’ve never learned before and vocalize your thought process and what you think about while learning it and trying to make connections. It would be great if you could share your strategies like chunking or thinking of analogies etc. Sharing this process is kind of along the idea of “give a man a fish and he eats for a day, teach a man how to fish and he eats for life”. I just started university and I've been struggling a lot with keeping up with my classmates. I went into a course as a relatively enthusiastic/ casually curious math student who came right out of high school, only to realize that everyone around me seems to know so much more than me. The expectation seems that because it's a course oriented towards the mathematically curious minds, they assume we knew more than the average person despite the pre-requisite being high school calculus (which, to be fair, a lot of people do! Just not me I fear). I'm surrounded by people who seem to know so much more than me and as much as I've found it inspiring, I also can't help the underlying fear/ judgement I feel in the classroom/ lecture hall. I know people always say we should ask as many questions as possible to best further our understanding, but I can't help but feel the unspoken judgement whenever I ask a question about something that seems to be a given for everyone else in the room. Your videos have really helped me work through things on my own time. I definitely need to work on overcoming the shame I experience in the classroom, but for now your videos have been keeping me going. Thanks for the work you do. Cheers! :-)

This is, sincerely, wonderful news. I attended a high school (in Australia) for gifted students, but always believed a didn't have "a math brain". I was then 'forced' to study maths at university as part of my course, but could never follow the teaching style at university. Out of desperation - and having developed a deep loathing of mathematics (actual anxiety attacks over my coursework) - I turned to KZbin. I still can't learn from my own lecturers, but you, Professor Leonard and The Maths Sorcerer have carried me all the way through Calculus IV. I now have one applied maths unit to go and, thanks to your great example, have decided to become a high school maths teacher myself. You have so beautifully modelled effective maths education and I want to be another person who unlocks the unfathomable for future students. To be more specific, I appreciate the way you scaffold learning: linking to past learning, modelling, demonstrating, providing visuals, etc. You don't just reel off theorem and expect the student to unpack all of that for their self. In addition, your channel is very well organised. It's not only very easy to find relevant videos, but I can select the playlist corresponding to a specific course and follow the logical sequence from beginning to end. This helps me to scaffold my own learning without needing to know how to sequence it for myself. Thank you. I just wanted to encourage you and let you know how very well you're achieving your goals in this space.

One of my favorite videos of yours was the minimal surfaces with bubbles! I think that maybe fits into the more broad scope of videos, so I’m excited to see more of it! Edit: Also your clear explanations of specific topics in courses are genuinely second to none on KZbin, at least for me anyway, haha

Huge fan from the start of my math journey, you really helped me with a multitude of math courses, I really love the way you explain stuff! I dare you to do a course on Algebraic Topology! because no one seems to dare to do it LOL!
@DrTrefor4 ай бұрын
Ha, well my background IS algebraic topology, so perhaps one of these days I actually should make an official playlist on it, would be super fun.

I’m glad to hear this. Your LaTeX videos got me off to a great start doing that. Then I discovered your math videos. As an applied biostatistician, I’d love some *understandable* content on mathematical statistics-definitely NOT in the “rigorous” Casella & Berger mold. Over the decades of studying mathematics in two STEM degrees, I’ve learned that “rigorous” is code for, We’re not gonna bother to explain this so you can actually understand it. Anyway, I’m looking forward to whatever you do. You have a gift for teaching through your videos. Your enthusiasm is catching.

I'm a math tutor and I enjoy recommending your videos to students or using them to self study so I am prepared for questions.

Your videos are some of the best Maths Videos out there. Good luck with your journey. Looking forward to your content.

Now that. Is awesome news! I too think KZbin holds incredible power for math education content, and your channel is one of a few gems out there that's particularly good at keeping even some of the scariest seeming branches of uni math accessible. Pleasure to have you back on the site full-time for a while, absolutely cannot wait to see what you put out! (plus, it'll no doubt help out with my ongoing math degree - if my exams this year are anything to go by, I'm gonna need it...) P.S. I'm curious as to the shirt? Is that some form of Stokes' theorem? A generalized fundamental theorem of calculus maybe? Idk.
@DrTrefor4 ай бұрын
Ya generalized stokes' theorem!

I was lucky to take a couple of Calculus courses from you back when you were at UC. I've continued to watch your videos and they always are a big help. Good luck!

Hi Prof! I have been a long time viewer of your channel. I just wanted to thank you once more for the immense help your Calculus, Linear Algebra and other playlists have been. They have played a big part in my first two years of Engineering! And I really do love the videos delving into Maths purely for the love of it, like the video on knots and Reidermeister moves. Whatever you do, I'm eager to learn from you and I'm here for it. All the best for the future! Tons of love and respect from India. ❤
