I wasn't expecting to leave Sweden so soon. I'm very sad having to say goodbye to this beautiful northern land. Only a few months went by since I got here, yet I have tremendously grown. This cottage experience in the forest, has been one of the most transformative of my life.
Today I share with you my experience among Swedish culture.
Unfortunately, I can no longer stay in this country.

I feel your pain. Friends and relationships can be so draining. But at the same time, social interaction is important as a human. Just like you should be careful about the food you put in your body, you need to be careful about the people you let in your life. Keep it simple. Just a few friends and minimal material possessions. Always maintain your independence and mobility. Don't be sad about leaving. It's ok to walk away. It's liberating. Keep moving. Sometimes I like the energy of a big city, sometimes I like the serenity of a rural setting. Wherever my heart is at that moment....I follow.

You must be young and single. Relationships and responsibilities, especially children will change those feelings. Both sides are very valuable and have their own challenges, but nothing compares to seeing your own child and grandchildren grow into adults. Just pick a loyal, responsible person if you decide to have that journey.

@ Donnie Donnie, On the contrary to what somebody posted, I do not believe relationships will help. Talking from experience. But if you can be a friend with someone from the opposite gender before they romanticize you, it can help. And keep boundaries in the five senses that are windows to your soul. Helping small businesses is good, but if you have less employees it makes it even smaller. Learn to adapt for when us, commentators are not there. Sweden can be good after the Ukraine war... study Yellowstone volcanic past eruptions.

I’m over 50. My wife passed 10 years ago. Our children have grown up and moved on with their lives. At first, I craved companionship, launched myself into relationships and being social, but there was a growing part that craved isolation. Universe provided me this last year a new place where I knew nobody. It’s been a journey of the mind and soul I can tell you. Some good, some hard. But overall, getting to know oneself throughly provides so much clarity on interactions with others, provides a greater perspective, less need to be accepted, greater confidence in oneself. We are social creatures I smile and say Gday to everyone, how they react is their business. Good for you young lady for being brave enough to take the time to ‘be with you’

I think it is mostly with strangers that we are "cold", since really, we don´t want to disturb their personal peace and life, unless it is really needed... and most people are shy. But once you get a "normal" Swed talking, you can´t shut them up (talk about the weather to break the ice) ^)^ That being said, there are areas of Sweden that are more "quite" for sure, where culture has been "less talk and more work".

@@Aethuviel I think you are proving my point of cultural difference. You dont understand it because for you its not normal, but for other nations Swedes are cold. When i tell the story of the old man who was found dead in his apartment 3 months after he had died, most people are horrified, most Swedes say we was just respecting his privacy. Unfortunately, tragically, Sweden is destroyed by them having radiated us with the strongest/highest microwave border-values(gränsvärde) for years. People got stress-sick, dong jobs badly, immorally, not wanting to exert themselves but sacrificing patients. People need good relationships and being able to trust fellows. Living off grid still need to buy things and interact. The insects are almost all extinct, and swedes don't connect it to the radiation despite many research findings openly available.Swedes dream on, walking themselves and us who don't use the radiation gadgets towards death instead of life. Living in nature helps little when still on the cell phony etc. Does WiFi work off-grid? even worse. The hidden ugliness of Sweden is so sad.

The culture is so different from what I know growing up, and all my efforts to socialize have led to zero meaningful friendships in the end. There are people I've known for a decade, "friends," and it stills feel like we just met. I am done trying and so glad to find your lovely video. Having been brought up in sweden and only visiting france I've been exposed to french culture more passively, meanwhile swedish culture has always been more directly served to me. I love this video because I can see both your perspective as someone from france and the remarks you made on swedish culture were very accurate and quite funny realising the differences in just simple things like social interactions with strangers. The stuff you said about isolation and how it's kinda is the best and worst thing at the same time really resonated with me. At the end of the day we do need others to feel happy. Sweden is a socially cold place unfortunately. Most of the Nordic places are. But they are totally different people outside of their home countries. It is confusing to me 😂 There was a whole thing about it on Twitter and it fascinated and horrified me. I'm marrying an Austrian soon. She was also both fascinated and horrified. I also informed her she has some of this same coldness. I'm Black and Cherokee. I can't stomach some of it. We are loud snd socially gregarious. I say hello to all of my neighbors. I crave community everywhere I go to the point of compulsion. I make it if I don't find it. People matter very much to me. I hope someday everyone can share this value and love one another properly.

Most aren’t social at all and talking to new people can be difficult as most prefer to surround themselves with only their own group of friends and alienate all others. @@VerdantVanille At least in most of Canada this is not a big problem, mainly because Canada has no real identity of its own. More than half the population of Toronto was not born in Canada. The same goes for the other major cities. If you want to come live in Canada and continue to live as if you had never left your country of origin, this is mostly possible. You can just find people from your own country, find your food, music, doctor, dentist, lawyer, accountant, newspapers, TV etc... and it feels like you are still in your own country. Your body is in Canada, but your mind and heart are still in your country of origin, even after decades of living here.

@@Satisfyerism Yes, I understand. My father was from Flensburg. A funny thing is that many Canadians and foreigners think that Canada is a Nordic country, which it is not, even though the winter here is very long and cold. Most Canadians hate winter. They dread its arrival and spend most of the winter waiting for spring to arrive. They fight against winter, whilst in the Scandinavian countries and in Finland they welcome it and dance with it. Apart from the Amerindians and Inuit (Eskimos), Canada is made up of colonists from France and the United Kingdom. These are not Nordic people and do not have the Nordic way of thinking. The rest of the population here consists of immigrants from warm countries who do not even care about Canada. They came here for a better quality of life. Canada is the only country to have hosted the Olympic Summer Games in 1976 and the Olympic Winter Games in 1988 and not won a single gold medal whilst hosting these games. Many people under 40 years of age who were born in Montreal do not know that Montreal hosted the Olympics. They know of the Olympic Stadium, the Olympic swimming pool, the Olympic Velodrome and the Olympic Village, but did not think that 1+1 = 2 and deduce that Montreal had hosted the Games. These same people also do not know who Canada's Head of State is, nor that Canada is a G7 country, BTW, LOL! xD Our Head of State is her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, who is also Head of State of Australia, Jamaica and whatever Commonwealth countries still exist.

I read a few comments here and the i feel that same way. You are very talented with production and camera skills and you really have a unique and natural vibe going on. I am sure that you were maybe situated in a great place in Sweden as far as being able to have a great relationship with nature and natural beauty, however yes a lot of the places in the countryside here are geared in a way that is perfect for the more isolationist type of person. Maybe if you had a group of close friends to travel with from the beginning or you had a partner and then maybe were trying to start a family you wouldn't have feel the loneliness as much. I live in Stockholm Sweden so the grass is always greener, I yearn for that isolated life of course along with the means and ends to support myself financially and otherwise. For example living off the land and self sustainable gardening/farming etc. You are young and need to find your way though so have fun and find your own peace on that journey.

I also could have tried to join a club or some sort of a similar thing to connect with like minded people. But it was quite isolated so yeah, not easy... You live in such a beautiful country with lots of possibilities to live a life close to nature! I am sure you will find a way to live a little closer to your heart and aspirations! Where are you now? I've lived in Sweden for 4.5yrs now. Desspite my efforst, I haven't been able to make one Swedish friend here...when you said, 'when I go to the grocery store, I feel invisible', it resonated with me so deeply. I love the natural beauty of this country and being an introvert helps overcome the quiet social life, but I miss my family a lot. Not sure I would still be here had it not been for my frequent visits home..still, I feel much more balanced here than when Ii was living in my home country. How is that even possible..?! I spend a loot of my free time walking in the woods or by the sea, it does magic to my exhausted mind.. Sending you my best wishes ❤

Just found your channel today and I must say it has had a profound emotional effect. It was easy for me to isolate myself from others to avoid being hurt despite living in a large Canadian city. It drains me. I was last in Ukraine in February before my government forced me to leave my Ukrainian students. I had been there the spring before to work as a military trainer/consultant before catching Covid and having to return to Canada. I had hoped to stay and help this year even being asked to stay by the Ukrainian government before the war began. Your gentleness hit me strongly in your prayers for peace and love. I just know that I cannot stand idle while others are being hurt and the evident evil present in some. I wish that I could be whisked away to that place in Sweden that you are now leaving. Natural surroundings such as that are where I go to replenish and rethink my choices (maybe the same for you?). Just wanted to thank you for your video and the help that it gave me. Bon chances et a la prochain.

You are exactly where you need to be my friend, there is something for you to learn here and now. Being reminded of this always helps me to rise again. And you will Matthew, your power shines through your words, you will rise again. Nature is where I go to find peace within myself, and connect with something bigger than me, being one with the earth is profoundly healing, as you would agree. Thank you, with all my heart, for your kind words. It brings so much light to my spirit right now. Take great care of your beautiful self Matthew ♡

I'm in my eighties and have the best of two worlds. I live in the United States in Southern California and have a cattle ranch in the mid-west. I can choose the hustle bustle life of California or the secluded wilds of my ranch in the Midwest. I turned the ranch back to nature about 20 years ago and the only thing abounds is wildlife. Mostly forest and peaceful. The wildlife being undisturbed for so many years trust me and it's like heaven on earth. But it isn't. Outside those locked gates is the world she describes in her video. Same in California although my fences is eight feet high around a large parcel guess what awaits me when I open the gates. Point? No heaven on earth. The good book tells us that. Pray to the living GOD for peace and comfort while here the short time you are.

I completely disagree that Sweden is somehow unique in how socially cold they are I know tons of swedish people who go hiking a ton together. The problem are modern people, I've lived in many different countries, EVERYONE is socially cold. Germany, america, Switzerland. I've been to Norway and people were a lot more social there than what people told me. More than Germany. Our neighbors are literally 2 meters away and don't talk to us. I dont have friends here. There are no ways to make proper friends despite living in a city. It's depressing. It has nothing to do with countries

It is not easy to know what one wants in life, most of the times we have to try things to get to know what we don't want instead, and by doing that, we will come one step closer to our destination. I'm also sure that this alone time has been good for you, and it is totally understandable that you long for intimacy and conversation after this time! It is not easy to get to know someone here in the Nordic countries. I think that maybe the best thing to do IS to forget about the ' real world' , the world of strife and greed, and to live as far away from it as possible. All those little things we do, like watching ice melt, and buds coming back to trees, and birds telling us stories are the real world, and by experiencing those things and appreciating them, we affirm a reality that shows the universe that we are worthy of keeping around.
