Joining us on this week's I'm LIVE is Kingston Rudieska, the pioneers of Korean ska! Originating in Jamaica back in the 1950's, ska isn't exactly the kind of music people might immediately associate with Korea. However, there's a ska and reggae movement in Korea, Kingston Rudieska is surely at the forefront of the scene. They never lose track of the roots of the music or disrespect its origins, yet infuse their music with a uniquely Korean twist to develop their "own" style of ska. The band's name is a combination of "Kingston", a city in Jamaica where the Skatalites created ska music, "Rudy," a byname for ska music listeners, and of course "Ska," which speak to their genuine respect and affinity for the genre as well as its birthplace.
On this episode, Kingston Rudieska performs "Sailors' Chant," "Jamaica Ska," "Reggae Bam Bam," "My Cotton Candy," and "Strolling Down the Street." Skanking with the audience, they showcase the real quintessence of their artistry and fun energy.

킹스턴 루디스카는 자메이카 스카(Ska) 음악을 선보이는 9인조 스카 밴드다. 독특한 밴드명은 자메이카의 수도인 '킹스턴(Kingston)'과 자메이카에서 음악을 즐기는 사람 혹은 건달을 뜻하는 '루디(Rudie)', 그리고 이들의 음악적 색깔을 나타내는 '스카(Ska)'를 합친 것이다. 트럼본, 트럼펫, 색소폰의 브라스 세션을 앞세운 다소 생소한 구성의 이 밴드는 2004년 결성 이후 지금까지 꾸준히 걸어왔고 전세계 스카뮤지션이 참여한 컴플레이션 앨범 [United Colors Of Ska]에 한국대표로 참여하며 대한민국 스카 대표팀으로 인정받고 있다.
낯선 스카 리듬임에도 불구하고 나도 모르게 본능적으로 몸을 움직이게 되는 '스캥킹(Skankin)'은 킹스턴 루디스카의 공연에서 볼 수 있는 진풍경이다. 중독성 있는 멜로디, 분위기를 끌어올리는 브라스 사운드와 누구나 따라하기 쉬운 춤까지 갖춘 다양한 매력으로 각종 공연과 페스티벌 무대에서 꾸준히 자신들만의 무대를 펼쳐 나가고 있다.
