Nice chill playthough! Picking up Improved Drain Soul at level 15 will allow you to gain a significant amount of regen from drinking with the buff active. This can help speed up leveling as well as negates the need for life tapping, keeping your health topped up more for Hardcore.

I wouldn't say that pets are Integral to the warlock toolkit. You can level and kill just fine without them. Nice to have but certainly not necessary.

You can, but why would You? Pets are pretty powerfull in vanilla so its big advantage by having one
