Really like the scroll wheel idea, just as long as it's comfortable and I'm not accidentally scrolling through menus during mid-combat 🤣

I agree lol as long as the scrolling is relegated to menus (and maybe aiming/zooming). But then again I’m not a developer so who knows? 🤷🏽‍♂️ I might be surprised at the usefulness/comfortability of it.

I agree with some of this. HD rumble isn't inferior to the PS5 haptics. HD rumble can be insanely detailed if the developer integrates it. Most do not, kind of like PS5's haptic triggers. I do give the PS5 controller comfortable, but prefer the Switch Pro Controller for its button placement. The Pro Controller is even more comfortable thanks to that. As far as stick drift, ALL current console controllers use potentiometers, so ALL will suffer drift at some point. I'd like to see more Hall Effect sticks be used to work to counteract that. The PS5 controllers have a lot of complaints with drift as well. Anecdotally, i haven't had didn't in any of my Joycons but my PS5 controller had it within six months of purchase. Just my two cents lol

Scroll wheel would be awesome also because it doesn't detract from any existing or new games in the sense that it can happily sit there as optional/dormant function rather than having exclusive functionality that future games rely on. It would support forwards compatibility perfectly.

I really want them to implement full controller tracking do they have vr like controls in certain games. It would also bring back pointer functionality. It won't get in the way of normal ports and helps them stand apart even more.

They do have pointer support. The room can be played with motion controls on switch and it has a pointer

Nice to see that Nintendo's learning from the competition when it comes to controllers. Drifting joycons were enough to make me want to shave with a chainsaw.

Scroll wheels, they could never find a good supplier that can provide ones any more reliable than the joycon sticks. It's also BS to conclude by sight alone that a button resembling a scroll wheel actually is one. I would sooner see maganetic rail where you can roll the entire joycon like a steering wheel. If they do that I can see them replacing a stick for a single axis, very accurate and adjustable slide. D-pad instead. Also this can repurpose old Joycons with an adapter, so that you won't need to use their stick at all. The rail conection can also have the metal buttons, that allow for three options to tilt the controller, press on one, two or both buttons by wedging it against the rail.

Bruh, Nintendo should have learned from themselves to begin with. N64 has an issue of sticks getting worse over time due to internal friction-damage, but every other stick from that point on would not start even lightly drifting until years down the line. Switch is a crazy downgrade.

I'd love for Nintendo to bring back optical control sticks (like on the N64) since those are immune to drifting, due to lacking potentiometers. Analog triggers would also be a cool addition. I'd also love for HD rumble to be better utilised in future titles

I love the adaptive triggers and haptic feedback on my PS5 controllers, but not enough games use it, and my 2 controllers are suffering from really bad drift and battery life issues. They just don't make them like they used to...

I hate the expense of both sides analog triggers and haptic feedback. There should be one ambidexterous Wii Nunchuck with those, and something different for the other hand.

I have a day one switch and still have no drift. Never used any other joy cons. Also im a smash player among like nearly ever other first party game. So idk 🤷‍♂️

If the switch successor's controllers do work magnetically and attach to the new console magnetically, then the same could be said with the two controllers being able to be attached together magnetically instead of using the plastic case you slide two joycons into. It snapping together to make a full controller would also be really cool and could probably have them be larger too with more grip on the joycons.

It's funny how subjective controller preferences are. You think the PS5 controller is the best, but it's my least favorite of all of them 😅 If the Switch Pro controller had analog shoulder buttons, it would be perfect, and same for the XB pad had haptic rumble. But either way, I much prefer the shape & inverted thumbsticks of both to the PS5 pad.

Button and control stick placement are fine to me either way, I think both controllers are comfortable to hold and use. So then it comes down to features for me.

If the controllers attach to the console through magnets, it's possible that the magnets are aligned so the two controllers can connect into a pro controller. Since the console is bigger, this might make sense

I love the pro controller triggers and wouldn't even consider changing them... they have less functionality, but they feel so much better to click than sinking in a weak spring for 1cm until you're stopped by plastic on plastic contact

They need something for that pedal motion. Mainly for racing games but it does help in shooters. And be used interesting ways like sudden release and gradual release.

A new Joycon Strap can just adapt older joycon to work with magnets, if you can find working ones still. People forget but the NES notoriously had just the basic buttons break, and that hardware was in production 1983-2003 plus licensed for some markets until 2008. Gamecube basic hardware lasted all throughout to Wii U, just marekted as a different setup. Switch can anticipate to last between 2016-2026 plus licensed for brazil at least unitl 2030, zero reason to think otherwise.

PS5 controllers have been having some problems from I've heard, drift and breaking. Though honestly all companies aren't hitting the mark on controllers, Xbox still uses AA batteries for crying out loud lol.

Imagine transporting your new console through the airport, you can’t let anyone know about it so you ask for a private screening, and the lowlife screening agent spills online what they saw. That’s pathetic, he wanted a private screening for a reason

Made-up I'd say. Well, I make similar posts on these nonsense accounts without making the basics up, ever, but even the 2016 oval controller based on an actual patent had scroll wheels. And that was hand-made actual mockup by a professional or student mold designer. You can easily be a professional TSA and make up a similar thing just in words. I like to share my conjecture, because I want people to consider possibilties that I KNOW have been confiurmed as possible. The only purpose to rumor like this, to me, is to hope people aren't going to be like "omg nobody could have predicted this!"
