Speak!!! I clicked this so fast cos it's about time for Terry to get his shine. We can always reskin the models and cityscape if WB ain't feeling (or showing) the love, but making it a 'Beyond' game helps get the word out and helps us rally around the project. Plus most of the character designs and art style nuances have been sorted out to an expert level in the show. We rooting for this heavy... me and all of my personalities :)

I’m not 100% agree when you talk about the Arkham games for me their gameplay are timeless, but otherwise the concept of your game is super interesting, I always dreamed to see a Batman beyond games. Don't stress too much about doing projects like that, take your time and have some fun. It's not uncommon for us to forget to have fun when we make long project plans.

I should clarify, the Arkham games are awesome and their style is timeless. But we have seen plenty of other games try & inpliment similar mechanics but not that at the same level in my opinion. And honestly I’m not interested in doing the exact same kind of combat cause they’ve already perfected it. I want to find something that might be similar but is different. That’s all. But you are correct about having fun with it, I just tend to be hard on myself. It’s trait I feel that keeps me pushing forward on things lol gift & a curse in a way.

hey indie dev here, good luck on making this game of yours, as someone who is also making a combat focused game i have to say that making a combat system as a begginer is going to be quite difficult but as you experiment a lot you will find better solutions to mechanics you have already programmed before and you will have an easier time programming new mechanics to the combat system as well, but it is still going to take time, so yeah good luck with that also if you need any help in programming something for your combat system i can help you with that since i've programmed a lot of stuff for my own game

This is a very cool project you got going, It's passion projects like this warm my heart to see, as much as I don't like bringing the mood down, messing making any project starring a premium character like a Batman is legally tricky, if an IP holder feels threatened enough they'll serve you a C&D, regardless of Fair-use in play. I hope at a point in development of this project you decide to strip away the Batsuit and make it into something of your own, in either case I wish you the best moving forward. Lastly, It was funny to hear you say you aren't good at talking to the camera, while at a wedding I talked to one of photographers to ask how they got into the profession, I recall them saying something along the lines of "I don't like being in pictures." so taking pictures of others was a way to ensure they weren't in them.

I get why you wouldn’t want to just copy the Arkham combat but I will just throw out there and say. One of the main things BATMAN FANS like about Arkham is the fact it’s a good depiction of Batman from the comics. Especially the combat. Batman fights in a wild inhuman way and isn’t a grounded combatant. Plus the combat is fun so that helps. But with that being said Terry is WAYY less of a fighter than Bruce is and uses the suit to make up for his lack of trained fighting. Absolutely do what you think is best or what you think is fun or what you want for your game. A martial arts driven terry batman beyond might just be off a bit tone wise. Of course again that might not matter to you or other people/your fans. But Batman fans might feel off about it. If Batman fans are your intended demographic….. think about it, maybe.

My idea of this interpretation is an older terry. Who might’ve been trained further by Bruce to be more capable in hand to hand combat. I don’t plan on using only martial arts for the combat

oo man, im hyped. parkour looks great, idk wym about u not being a good animator, looks like its coming along great. Im excited to see how u implement the rocket boots with gliding. When I imagine how rocksteady might do it, u could have normal gliding by holding the jump button as you get off a building, then maybe LT/L2 to boost with the boots, that way, the RT is still open for diving and gaining momentum

Mentioning Sifu for an influence on the games fighting style - you might want to check out Absolver! It was made by the same developers as Sifu, but is *far* more stylized than Sifu and while not as refined, might give you inspiration on some of the ways you want combat to be whether in terms of visuals, or feel.

Unless you set a public timeline, be careful to judge what constitutes being behind. If you have a really strong reason to make something, and get a really clear design of the concepts, that's the biggest stuff. And then in application you go step by step on a prototype, expand and cleanup process philosophy making each piece future accessible to where you can pick anything back up pretty quickly where you left off. It takes a lot of time but breaking here and there isn't much of an issue then as long as you're sure you'll get back to it eventually with the same energy and capability. Our culture enforces hard work in exchange for a better perception of ourselves and the more you break away from that and be true to what's right for you at any given time (which some days means working on the stuff and some days means chilling) the better off you'll be, and the higher quality you're work will be when you are doing it. That's my experience

Okay so you’ve got the mechanics of the concept mapped out well enough but, and I do understand this’ll come later in the process, the points that hit us hard in that show were just Batman being human. Taking out criminals is one thing, counseling the marginalized, he did that too. Exposing the corruption, protecting communities, urban decay… sitting with a child so she doesn’t have to die alone. These might seem complicated but you said you’ve worked in film so the story beats can be boiled down to some subtle scripting. Superheroes don’t just fight crime, they stand against injustice too.

Regardless of progress, make consistent uploads on whats going on Devs wise. As for animating, consider something Into the spiderverse style, not so much because of it's artistic merit (Though it is neat) but because the lower frame rate might be easier to actually animate

How would you advise one to get into photography or start out even? What's a good starting camera? Game looks pretty fire already, by the way.

Honestly, if you have a smart phone I feel like in 2024 it’s a great way to practice without having to invest any money upfront. Practice with that. After that I’d suggest maybe Sony a6700 or lumix s9 for like a professional style camera. Those start at around 1200 though. So if I were starting out now it’d use my smart phone and get phone lenses and see how I do with that before investing in a camera.

Goodluck with your project, but i am not sure how will you get this past DC/WB, they own the batman franchise even if its a free game, you are bound to face issues, my suggestion would be to use a character design which is just enough to say its not batman, but everyone knows it is. This video caught my attention as i am the designer for the batman desertstorm suit and i was selling my 3d models for years, it was all good until 2020 when they shutdown all the places the model was available.
