Specialty tools, one time use sockets, torque to yield fasteners, etc... if I ever run into an automotive engineer, they're gonna need some specialty tools to remove some boots from their "trunk"

Seems daunting but once you lock out the crank and then the cams it’s not too bad

You bought one of the smallest USDM FWD cars with a turbo, your problem is lack of room to work, not the special tools required. The confined space is why they needed to engineer anything special for you to purchase on top of the car itself. Buy a RWD car and enjoy some wiggle room.

That's all of the ford 4 (and 3) cylinders anymore. It is a pain but I believe it's more precise as it is infinitely adjustable as opposed to pins/keys.

Have a vehicle with the 4.0 SOHC. To do the timing chain you have to pull the entire engine because you have chains in the front and back of the engine. Been a damn reliable vehicle, but the timing job is stupid.

They are variable cams and need locked , and no you dont need the whole case , the case you bought covers many ford and Peugeot models also citroen , you sir purchased a ford timing KIT not a kit pesific to the car , witch would have cost about 30 dollars

This is not why cars are more complicated. When cars were easier to work on they also has 3 features 2 of them being start and stop. They also made 100 hp. If you want a car that has 200hp and every feature under the sun the get more complicated.
@CornerAfterCorner2 ай бұрын
I was not talking about the cars construction in general. Obviously cramming a lot of different technologies like a hpfp, direct injection, vvt, etc. Into a small space on a small engine will result in a complex package. The problem I encountered was that, in all the different cars ive worked on, a lot of that job had steps that seemed intentionally rediculous for the purpose of having the service take longer and have more '1 time use paarts'.
@OneOfDisease2 ай бұрын
Not sure it is 100% corporate greed. Lot of maintenance issues are created by engineers that design cars, but they have never actually worked on cars.
