The metallic mirror pendant lamp is a Tom Dixon Melt lamp if you google it. Not too much change from £500. "advanced vacuum metallisation" technique. Whatever that means.
@ctreanor93
@ctreanor93 Жыл бұрын
It's a fancy form of powder coating something non metallic to make it look metallic. I believe it's quite an expensive process. But again, making cheap materials looks expensive
@deang5622
@deang5622 Жыл бұрын
Look up sputtering. It was a technique I used many years ago to apply the metallisation layer on to an integrated circuit die. An evacuated chamber is used and a piece of metal inside is vaporised by passing an electric current through it. The atoms of the metal are then deposited over the device in the chamber.

As I mentioned in another recent video it’s nice to get back to sensible stuff much better for business. Ps split the SSID’s on the router so you have 2.4 & 5 Ghz

Brilliant video as always. Only bug bear I’ve got as a meter engineer is electricians ploughing kit into the meter boxes. The amount of times I’ve had to turn customers down because there’s no room in the meter box to put a smart meter in.I get why it’s done, it’s quick and easy for the electrician but causes customers headaches when they can’t get renewable/solar tarriffs. I think a separate IP rated box should be fitted as standard near the meter box. A bit of a faf for you guys but it saves you getting called out at a later date. Thanks for the videos, keep them coming!!Happy new year to you all.

Hey Jordan. A small tip for your connectivity issues. I work in IT and have come across many issues in relation to WiFi connectivity to IoT devices; Sonos, Sky, Temperature and Humidity sensors, Home Automation and so forth. What I've found is that many of these WiFi dongles / WiFi connectivity points don't operate on 5GHz due to line of sight and lack of compatible hardware. When you combine 2.4GHz and 5GHz into one SSID, these devices won't see the 2.4GHz LAN. Rather than disabling the 5GHz network, you should setup a separate 2.4GHz WiFi network as disabling 5GHz WiFi will by nature decrease throughput for all 5GHz compatible devices. 5GHz requires line of sight, i.e. it isn't very good at penetrating solid objects while 2.4GHz is. Some will argue 5GHz won't penetrate solid objects and while this is somewhat true, it's not an exact science. Feel free to fire me a message if you require more info. as this is my bread and butter and I've been brought in on many weird and wonderful projects to resolve issues as such. Long time viewer and subscriber and I love the attention to detail and stellar work Artisan Electrics do 👍 All the best 👌

10:00 Sometimes you just need to split the Wi-Fi bands so that the 2.4GHz and 5GHz SSIDs have different names. I just add 2.4 and 5 on the end to identify them. By default they have the same name which can be an issue.

I eventually solved these by changing the WiFi dongle for a wired network connection and no more communication dropouts, or weird battery readings on the app. I strongly advise to use a cabled network connection to the inverter.

Devices not pairing cos there's a 5Ghz radio on the same SSID - been there done that. Answer is either temporarily turn off the 5Ghz radio (if possible) while pairing, or put it on a different SSID. Dealing with SOLIS support (with one American support guy who's on the spectrum) - been there done that. To be fair, they responded pretty quickly to me and even sent me out a firmware update stick with a USB drive for free, even if the support guy was a bit unfriendly. I won't buy another Solis hybrid inverter though, they behave quite strangely and Solis just say 'works as designed' to which my reply is 'clearly its a design fault then'. Then they shrug and go quiet.

Turning off the 5ghz isn't great for the customer as they'll loose fast wifi - put in a better router than the home hub, or put in better wifi, either or, and then the customer can still have both. 2.4ghz is good for range and penetration and having IOT stuff on but 5ghz really is better for humans and their devices - especially if you have properly provisioned wifi with decent signal. In the same respect as you found that kitchen fixer work and said "classic kitchen fitter job" - turning off the 5ghz wifi is a little bit "classic sparky job" :P I'm being very tongue in cheek, I love your videos. I have an IT business and our parent business is a sparky's so we work closely with them on a lot of stuff. In this instance we would probably try and sell the customer a unifi system and go and install that in their house to improve the wifi - looks like a big house so they would benefit from it over just a home hub or the home hub + Bt disks (as they are rubbish).

Pretty standard problem with most "smart" things these days is they're using the cheaper 2.4ghz band chips. You can, on some routers split out the 2.4 and 5 onto different SSID's (network names) to be able to see both at the same time.

Yet another reason to USE A SEPERATE ACCESS POINT for this stuff, when will electricians ever learn? Owners change their ISPs hub/password or even go with a new provider and all the smart stuff will have to be re configured, if you put it on a separate AP then there might still have to be some fiddling (if IP address range changes for example) but it will be minimal.
