KZbin is forcing everyone to use the premium pay as you go. As far as I know they will now pay you for all the ads I blocked or skipped before. So you might be getting more dosh on that front.
@MarvinWestmaas11 ай бұрын
same here, I'm hoping creators are actually seeing a notable uptick since I am 100% sure we are not the only one's who shilled out for YT premium just because it's not worth hunting after working add block versions, dealing with the intentional slow downs ect ect @

Also along those lines, I love it when your wife comes on and you explain things with her. You two are great together. The chemistry is just fun to see.

That is exactly why I stopped watching game theory many years ago, his transformation into "dadpat" (his words), basically ruined his content for me. I watched his content for videos like the companion cube and majora's mask theories, his channel became something entirely different that didn't mesh with my interests at all, it felt too watered down for me. I want that existential dread and dark humor, not dad jokes!
@joparkcat11 ай бұрын
Yep, when you cater to the average viewer they tend to hang around for a few videos and then move on to the "latest and greatest thing". A few channels i have been a big fan of have gradually changed their content over the last few years. Nothing wrong with the average viewer either, i tend to follow a channel, here and there from time to time and lose interest after awhile, but I will always support channels that are doing their own thing, like Asylum.

@@ScienceAsylum That's something I'd like to comment too. I really don't like YT ads, (specially those in the middle), but I really don't mind seeing sponsored promotions! Sometimes I find myself entertained with the promotion and I think it's because of the same reason I kinda like them: because it's still you, Nick, passing the message, and we, the viewers, we like you. I find it fun to see how different creators adapt their way of communicating into marketing. It's still marketing, but the aesthetics of it remains of that person we like to watch and listen to. It's interesting and sometimes fun. Anyway, I just wanted to reinforce that comment because maybe the majority of people don't mind sponsoring that much (like I said, I kinda like it), but you know, Nick, in the end we all want you to do what makes you more comfortable. P.S.: just to exemplify, you might remember a comment I wrote once, that I was joyful to see you and a Brazilian youtuber that I like both promoting the same company (surf shark in that case) on what was for me, as viewer, the same day, and seeing you both maintaining your aesthetics during the promotion. P.S.2: already a supporter on Patreon! Wish you all the success! Cheers from Brazil! ♥

I know it's not a good amount, but I hope it helps (at least emotionally). You are a very valuable channel for me. Unlike other metaphysical, negative science channels, science shows that the universe is an amazing place, no matter what it happens. You are also a very good teacher. Conversations, confusions, etc. between clones. Gestures actually reflect the questions in the students' minds. And these little games make students feel like center of the subject. To me, you are like Senku from the Dr. Stone anime. Others reminds me Prof. Xeno. 🥰

I'm looking forward to the topics you are most interested in rather than having to try to appease the algorithm. That's also why I subscribe to Nebula, because there's a ton of great content on there and most of it could never work on KZbin. I've always believed that if I want something to exist, the best way to make that happen is to help fund it's creation.

TOTALLY resonates with me! Throughout my career (as a scientist, educator, and creator), I have resisted the push to be a manager or spend my time doing business tasks like accounting that I find deadly boring. It's affirming to hear somebody as talented as yourself say this! In the end, we have limited time on this earth, and how we spend our days and talents matters. If there is enough money to pay the bills, then trading quality time and freedom for money is "so-what?" pointless.

Not a suggestion, just an observation: part of hiring a team can be hiring a manager. Indie bands hire managers for exactly this reason -- they want to focus on making music and not get bogged down in the business side of things. You would still be the director, able to focus on the creative side, and give your ideas to the manager to let them handle the details. Again, just an observation. I would never presume to tell you how to do your own thing. I will support as I can, and I look forward to the content you have in store for us.

Been meaning to buy the book. Thanks for the reminder. :) Now take my money and keep doing the things you love, because I acquired a taste for your style on video 1 and haven't stopped loving your wacky but extremely detailed and accurate teaching style since. I love all your videos!

Thank you for your work. I understand why you're doing this, Nick, and hope it goes well. Wish that I could support you financially, but that's not an option for me right now. Your videos are informative, educational, and entertaining, even if I can't always understand the topic every time! (I don't have any qualifications in physics, just an interest). Best wishes to you, Emily, and the clones!

First, I'm glad you're making decisions for your best life. As a viewer and a fan I want to make sure you know that *I* don't mind sponsored segments. I get that's how the sausage gets made, and frankly you've always done an above average job incorporating sponsored content. As much as anything, I see it as a testament to your creativity. I won't miss them, but if I'm choosing between more you with sponsors and less you without, I chose more you, sponsors or not. But if it's just a you thing that means you are dropping them, of they're just more trouble than they're worth, that's fine, I would rather see you take care of yourself and be here for a long time than make a little more money and burn out.

Thank you for your service, integrity, and commitment to quality science communication. To support your channel a while back, I bought your book on theoretical physics and, as a physics professor, really enjoyed it and would recommend it to my students. Keep up the great work!

It's not much, but I am proud to be a new Patreon $1 level member (believe me, I'll up it when I can). I adore your work here and love your unique personality and take on things. Thanks for being one of the best science educators on KZbin!

Thanks for the support! The smaller the support, the more sustainable it'll probably be. I value the $1 pledges 👍

Keep doing you, Nick! The thing I've always loved the most about the Science Asylum is that it's YOUR perspective on things, and YOUR particular subjects of interest. A number of times you've touched subjects that I couldn't find answer to for years.
