True, have you seen all the stuff coming out on next fest on steam? So many bangers, an insane amount. Then we got a metal slug roguelike coming out next year as well as bio prototype 2 coming out. I think 2025 will be the year of roguelikes.

@@jeezuhskriste5759 Some people have a stricter definition of roguelikes than others. This game is what people with a stricter definition would call a rogue-lite. It has a run-based and RNG heavy design, but other than that it has nothing in common with Rogue. Traditional Roguelikes are turn-based top-down RPGs that have absolutely nothing carried over or unlocked between runs, heavy use of RNG for level layouts, enemy placements, loot drops, etc, permadeath except when you already have a life-saving item (an Amulet of Life Saving, for instance), no quitting without saving, no saving without quitting, and typically brutal difficulty. The only thing you gain between runs is more knowledge/skill as a player, so beating one of those games is a hell of an accomplishment typically because it means you took the time to really understand the game, its mechanics, and built a lot of skill in threat assessment and inventory management (typically you're limited by weight of how much stuff you can carry and you need to carry food with you and eat dead enemies or risk starvation). So yeah, this game is absolutely nothing like Rogue other than featuring RNG and being run-based.

It's already great, just needs all the items unlocked which the full version will have. It's up there with Balatro, Backpack Hero, Peglin, Wildfrost, Endgame of Devil, Luck be a Landlord etc. Another one to keep an eye on is OMG Words, it's a scrabble roguelike with the same aesthetic as balatro.

Check out "OMG Words", it's a scrabble roguelike that has a balatro feel. Has huge potential. I hope somebody makes a mod to unlock forbidden words. I feel like Luck be a Landlord + Peglin + Cuphead is a good description of this game.

If i have any critique of this game at first glance, it's that it could maybe use more clarity in its art direction. Love the old-school cartoon vibe of the bonkables, but it feels like a mismatch with the bright colors and crisp linework. Could just be me though, the game itself seems fun!
