apples and oranges. about the only similarities are the graphics, and partly the world map (as you now have sky islands and the dark chasm underworld). the controls are different the mechanics are different, the puzzles are less challenging, or not challenging at all, this isnt a zelda game - its a 3rd person minecraft with a zelda skin. No other game has felt less “zeldery” in the franchise. Doing those first 4 shrines in the sky islands? i wanted to violently pull the skin off someone and wear it. what a ball ache. none of that was fun. just work. Boring, run of the mill, nothing exciting, pointless hoop-jumping work. To boil tears of the kingdom down into a sentence, they may what was simple complicated, they made what was fun effort, they made what was smooth cumbersome and disjointed. I haven't even mentioned the storyline / lore - all previous zelda games had a sense of cohesion between all the parts, but TOTK is just a mishmash of good ideas on paper, that were either badly implemented, or were just that - only good ON PAPER. im being seriously honest, the ONLY welcoming additions are things that should have just remained as DLC bits for BOTW. such as the rewind ability, that could have made some seriously interesting puzzles in BOTW. the recipe book is another good ideas BOTW could have done with. it since that TOTK allows you to PICK UP RUPPEES with a button rather than forcing you to run directly over them like in BOTW, that was silly oversight. apart from that, all the other additions dont work well. but the ultrahand ability in TOTK is overpowered for one. and cumbersome to use for two. creating things seems like an unlimited creative resource for a sandbox at first, but you later find out theyve broken EVERY construction into pieces for you to put back together manually. nothing is premade anywhere anymore, for example no boats pre-made anywhere, EVERY one you have to make - I would understand if a handful of them were in pieces to teach you how to use the ultrahand and leave some fully made, but thats not what ive found - they're basically going “oh please…PLEASE use our new shitty mechanics we spent 6 years making but spent 0 seconds thinking about how it might work in practice - PLEASE WE’RE DESPREATE” and then almost punich you but forcing you to go through the hoops of creating an object with cumbersome controls. where's the FUN!!!! ? its also got a hilariously short effective distance, a lot of the time you’ll find an item just out of reach. the ascend ability is just, wtf? who came up with that? you can tell so badly, that the level design is forced into such a design to make this ability actually useful. it feels like a half-arsed idea. it would have been better if it was implemented in BOTW but keeping BOTW exactly as it was - you could then use the ascend in creative ways - whereas TOTK leaves to you to use it when its obvious that you have to, and the levels being broken up, to drop down in elevation a bit, only to have an overhang above you to ascend to - you often find this in the form of a broken bridge, where one part overhangs when you drop below - erm…couldn't have just kept the bridge intact? no? couldn't have saved this ascend ability for something more suitable? couldn't believe this power when i unlocked it. i still cant. at every opportunity i had, i aggressively avoided building items, because often theres a simpler, faster, more efficient way to solve the task at hand. even when they try to force you to use their stupid new mechanics i could usually find another way around them, rendering the ultrahand pointless. TOTK is minecraft in zelda skin. its a construction game, doesn't belong in the setting its been created in. I would struggle to give it a 5/10. and that only because it still has some of the BOTW elements to it. they might look similar games, and their plots might be linked, but they play entirely differently. 6 hours into TOTK, not ONE ounce of fun was had, not one piece of enjoyment, no “ah ha” moments, no motivation to do their puzzles, no satisfaction in completing them or even going through the motions, just pure uninterrupted annoyance - the game is annoying to play - that's not “entertainment” which is what EVERY game HAS to be otherwise what are we here for? 6 years of development for this? what a joke. if anyone is in doubt, check it out for yourself but do the smart thing and play on someone else's copy or pirate it first (fuck you nintendo, not stealing, its more a try before you buy), don't part with your cash until you know you personally like it. i wanted to like it, hell i tried so hard to love it - ive been a massive zelda fan since a link to the past. OOT was excellent, wind waker was an excellent game despite the subjectiveness of its art style. twilight princess added new mechnics that fit with the zelda universe, i never played skyward sword, but when i played BOTW i was blown away. the exploration, the freedom, the environment, the characters and their personalities, how closely it remained to the lore, and all of the new reimagining of classic characters such as the fairy fountains, beedle, the gerudos, ritos, gorons, and zora domains were all excellently presented, and were flooded with nostalgia. not one piece of this is felt in TOTK. such an utter disappointment. got rid of it, sold it, and went HAPPILY back to BOTW, this time round to do master mode. id personally never recommend TOTK to anyone, even (maybe espeically) zelda fans. it strays too far. and whats funny, is if nintendo made this game EXCATLY as it is now, but without the zelda skin or label, it would be an excellent game, becasue you’d not be trying to relate it to the rich, well established zelda universe, it should stand on its own two feet in isolation - as an “open-world, crafting/constructing RPG game” that would have flown. BOTW wasnt perfect though, it was short compared to other zelda games, there were only (ultimately) 5 main points to the game (the 4 x divine beats, and ganon) there was no “2nd set” of these trials. for example, in OOT you had to do the 3 x stones to get the master sword, then you had your FIRST fight with ganondorf. then the game progresses and you find your’re only about a 3rd of the way in, then all hell breaks loose and the full expansion of the game is realised, THEN you have to go through the “2nd set” of trials, do all the temples, and then have the proper big fight with ganon. nearly every other Zelda game had a similar formula. i was very disappointed when beating ganon and finding that was the end. that part didnt feel very “zelda” at all. story-wise it was short. but side-quest and world-map wise it was massive, bigger than anything before it. but with a near perfect attempt, TOTK should have just polished BOTW and extended the plot, thats it, or maybe a new world aside from hyrule that wasnt the sky islands, that part was really what felt disjointed. i understand thats probably some throwback / nod to “skyward sword” ? i dont know, havent played it, i dunno, i just feel nintendo could easily have done significantly better in 6 years than what they came up with.

I put in more then 180h in breath of the wild, a friend bough tears of the kingdom so i played at is house for about the same time as you. This building things stuff does not work for me either i find it stupid and frustrating, but the story is also not good, and i ended up being more frustrated with the game than having fun with it. In the end i am glad i did not buy this game. Is it a bad game well no if you like building things logs, raft with fans (when you hit the fans to start them you lose a log and it takes you 45 min to get across to the island manage to die you start all over again) For me this game compared to BOTW is a complete failure.

@@terry85mar considering the fusion system really lowers that degrading issue it's not a problem for people with actual skill. And real Zelda fans do play everything this bull shit sounds like fake fans from final fantasy that just play offline versions of ff or just ff14 only. Those and the bull shit you typed is fake fan stuff because real fans enjoy everything and go with it from the first day. And no way in hell am I gonna believe it's not trolling when this guy spent over 20 minutes just to figure out to how to stack to two platforms in front of another to cross. Even I instantly figured that soon as I seen. A wider gap forward with two platforms now? Beyond obvious.
