Imagine the frustration! lol I've dabbled in the music game for decades and advancements in manufacturing and technology have definitely leveled the playing field when it comes to sonic quality. Honestly in this day and age as long as your gear is decent an experienced engineer is going to make a much bigger impact
@DeadlyMixKrew3 жыл бұрын
Wrong. Manufacturing has gotten worse as companies more and more are making equipment intended for amateurs where the idea is to make as many as possible for as cheap as possible, rather than making small batches in as long as it takes to make each ones perfect for a small niche market. Another knockoff being out there is actually GOOD for our business. This fails poorly at one of the main things that makes the C800-G what it is. Despite how harsh and sibilant bright mics tend to be, the C800-G is the brightest and clearest mic by far in our arsenal, yet it's the least sibilant and least harsh. Sweetwater may have it listed for about $11k but you won't get one for anywhere near that price. Sony doesn't have tubes anymore so they don't make it. Total cost of buying one used, replacing the tubes, tax, and every other expense to get you that original C800-G sound will run more like $25-30k. Replacement NOS tubes go for $1,000 each. It takes 1 in the mic and 2 in the PSU. Now that this knockoff is being marketed so heavily, we're expecting an increase in business from artists looking to record on the real thing. Most artist's that come in don't know what the C800-G is, so there's been no point in investing much into marketing that we're one of the few studios in Michigan that have it. Soon, every artist will know about it from this heavily marketed knockoff and many will want to check out the real thing.
@DeadlyMixKrew3 жыл бұрын
@@FTHonestReviews An experienced professional engineer has always been the most important thing. Once you have that though, every little detail starts making a big difference, so shelling out thousands and thousands of dollars for each mic/EQ/compressor then becomes worth the expense.
@BeatsBangcomtv3 жыл бұрын
@@DeadlyMixKrew if you say so . In an age of Streaming MP3s the actual listening audience doesn’t care if a mic cost 12k or 12 dollars. You can have all the high end equipment in the world. If the listener doesn’t connect then all that money spent on expensive gear is wasted. I’m sure all the engineers with dog ears will complain about the low quality and subpar performance of affordable equipment, but the average person doesn’t care. Just like all the DAW snobs poo pooed FL Studio for it to become the number 1 DAW in the world. Gear doesn’t make hits ppl do. It’s just that most ppl who can’t make hits tend to hide behind expensive gear. IMHO
@DeadlyMixKrew3 жыл бұрын
@@BeatsBangcomtv You're not wrong in theory but, in my experience, it actually works AGAINST the artists. Consumers don't know what the different elements are so they can't consciously excuse flaws. They just hear music and it either sounds like a big successful Top 40 production or it sounds like their loser ex-boyfriend's bedroom bullshit and subconsciously biases their perception of what they're hearing. The market is so oversaturated with shitty music that the good ones often get drown out and every little advantage helps. Good artists, good writing, good composition, good recordings, good mixing, good marketing... It all adds up and there are plenty of artists out there with all the above that you (the artist) are competing with. Plus, there's also the factor of the artist longing to hear themselves sound amazing. For a studio, that's an important factor for repeat business. As far as Fruity Loops goes... Well, FL does sound like shit. Something about it just adds more of the "digital" sound, robbing otherwise good samples/sounds/recordings of their richness. Again, it's part of a bundle of factors but it can easily affect the emotional communication of the song. Someone might hear the song on an Amazon Echo and connect with the song, certainly, but there's a big difference in the intensity of that connection compared to hearing it in an ideal mix on, say, a Cadillac sound system. I'd recommending playing "I Will Always Love You" by Whitney Houston on an Echo then again in a Cadillac sound system as 2 extreme examples of quality affecting the intensity of the emotion but I'm confident you've had plenty of experience in your life already to understand what what I'm talking about. There have been plenty of mumble-rap hits on FL beats to make your point but I'd argue that those big artists then send their stems to a real studio where artists like Cardi B record on a C800-G > 1073/737sp > CL1B chain (or something similar) and get mixed by an engineer who only PRETENDS not to use the $500k+ worth of analog equipment in front of them when they're getting paid to help sell plugins. I polish FL Studio stems up with AMS Neve, RND, SSL equipment on a regular basis. It's a necessary step in getting them to have that more commercial sound artists are often looking for. Once in awhile they want me to drive it up for a more 90s NYC/indie feel (which is more fun) but lately it's more often the former.

As the owner of a Sony C800-G, I assure you this doesn't come close. The C800-G is brighter and crisper yet handles sibilance better than a warmer pro-level mic like an original U87. Another thing that makes the C800-G such an incredible mic is how smooth it is at all times. It handles fluctuations in SPL, like suddenly getting louder, with an extremely smooth response. There is no substitute. In fact, if you use any other tube, even the C800-G won't sound like a C800-G. The tube goes for $1,000 each and it uses 3 of them (1 in the mic + 2 in the PSU). Sony stopped making the C800-G because the factory that made the tubes in Ukraine is now shutdown. Also, $10k will NOT get you a Sony C800-G. When they were still in production, they ran around $12-13k out the door. Now it'll run you between $15-20k used, just for the mic alone. With the new tubes you'll need, sales tax, and service (because you definitely want another company that's insured if a tube or mic is damaged when you're spending so much already) it'll run you somewhere between $25-30k to have a pristine sounding Sony C800-G. If Warm could make a knockoff that sounds like the real thing for the price of a Sony NOS 6AU6A tube, Sony would buy up every tube their supplier has and start making more mics and selling the tubes for $500 each again. If you're thinking "Okay so I'll spend an extra grand for a real tube and put it in my Warm knockoff and get that top tier sound for dirt cheap", think again. I haven't heard anyone who's tried it yet but I've worked with enough high-end mics and checked out enough "clones" to assure you there's no way for them to make an accurate knockoff at that price. Warm can't even make an accurate U87 knockoff. A far simpler design.

@@IAMTYNCH 🤣 🤣 I really wish you werent so wrong. The tube goes for $1,000 USD and are virtually impossible to find because the factory that made them has been closed for years now. They sold for about $500/each before they stopped selling them. Before they were rare, they were $75/each directly from Sony 15 or so years ago. Some studios swear that, if you're willing to spend the money, you can buy a few hundred high quality tubes, have them all tested and sometimes find a few usable in there. Production is basically in limbo. It's discontinued but they made a short run not too long ago after finding a box of tubes they'd apparently misplaced. They sold exactly 20 tubes to consumers after ending production again. If they are ever able to source new tubes that meet the high standard, they'll likely bring it back again, but so far that looks unlikely. I know for a fact that information is available online because I've personally been a part of the discussions in my search for more tubes. If you can find them for $500 each or less, I'll take 6 and you can pocket the difference.

I was surprised on how clear it sounded without EQ. This is going to be a must upgrade from my TLM102. Price point is key also

Agreed, there are other clones out there but for $1199 this is a great deal for us bedroom studio guys who aren't rich
