Do you guys deep clean your washing machine? I only use vinegar as a fabric softner and laundry detergent. But I did go back to using liquid instead of powder. Do you think that caused it?

I though vinegar was bad for the drum. Mine has a self cleaning setting I run once a month and I leave the door open when not in use. Mine also is supposed to be drained every 6-8 weeks.

I use both because colors and blacks wash better whit liquid. I do run a tub clean once a month on the hottest setting though. I would suggest birch benders and nellis laundry powder never had any problems

I was told that fabric softener and liquid detergent are the cause ....they build up , when you use liquid detergent, they have to add ingredients to keep it together and stable.... I only use powder now and no fabric softener. I leave the door and the detergent tray open. When not in use ..... I drain the water out of my machine every week and rinse the filter , on the 1st of every month . I've had the machine for 5 years , no build up or issues, no smell .

Yes I do and the tabs for it help. I have to say I don’t have that problem.

How much detergent do you use? I recently found out I was using too much detergent. I didn't know that I should only be using 1-2 table spoons per load. That can cause build up also.

I don’t have a front loader but I use oxi clean washer cleaner packs and clr to wipe off any dirt mold areas

My boyfriend used to have a front loader. Never cleaned it and closed the door so it smelled soooooo bad. We now have a top loader. For next time, you can buy long Q-tips at the drug store so you can reach further back. Hope it is better!!

I ciric acid wash & wipe gasket monthly. I use vinegar too. The filter stays clean, and check bi-annually now.

That's why I stopped using front loaders. I even had a smell too! I always emptied the drain too and that water was gross lol! Maybe I should've tried a brush! I forgot to add I never closed the door and it can be annoying but it has to dry out inside. Also do a self cleaning monthly :)

I have read that laundry softener can cause that kind of gunk. Some suggest using white vinegar instead.

Zara's gonna be like lemme tell you about the crazy things my mom made me do when I was growin' up! haha. Also.. if you have a waterpik flosser...... works great for this. hahahhaa just hold it back a ways and blast it right off.

I have learned to use less detergent and fabric softener. When i add too much fabric softener I can feel the waxy film onthe clothes I imagine our washer. I clean once a month and use those washing machine cleaner tabs.

These front loaders you have to clean like this. I don’t use fabric softener or pods or scent beads just a natural liquid detergent and vinegar and mine gets disgusting too.

I've cleaned out that water thing in the bottom left of the machine, but I've never stuck a toothbrush back in that hole. Didn't even know it was there really. Now I'm scared.

I use dry powder tide only about 1/4 what I used to use… I don’t use any fabric softner or dryer sheets ..: wool balls in dryer only … my daughter in law gave us her old set cause she had gunk ( brown flakey muck) on her clothes all the time … Mr bill took it apart as much as he could you tubed treatments … vinegar and bleach wash loads only for 5 cycles ? It has been two years ? No gunk for me 🤣glenda ( top loaders only for me )

No, don't deep clean. A steamer would clean the dispenser better. Make sure you allow everything to dry out after use.

Yes it looks like bacterial growth from soap scum and you could probably benefit from using less detergent per load and or switching back to powder detergent

@MarriageMotherhood If you go back to powder, you may need to mix the powder with water before putting it in the washing machine. A washing machine repair man on here said Powder detergent can cause build up too because the powder may not disolve all the way.
