Spot on about Plugin Hybrids, the newest Hybrids from Toyota were seamless. During the gas ransom attack, I filled up my Camry Hybrid in Tennessee and was able to Drive to SC and back without worrying at all about finding gas which was difficult. Just think what a mess it would be after a Hurricane or something with everyone owning an all Electric POS. But an intelligent approach would require intelligent politicians! Good luck with that! They’re stupidity will only succeed in putting more American car companies out of business which may be their overall goal!

You are spot on Scotty about Hybrid’s vs. Electric. I owned a hybrid Camry and it was a awesome big car and got great MPG. It was much larger than my older gas only model and got 50+. I’ve said for years, improving Hybrids would be less damaging for the economy, allow for infrastructure to catch up and makes the most sense. It also would allow the battery technology improve and be a practical solution that would work for everyone regardless of their location and driving needs. But that would require our government to have some common sense. Good luck on that!

@restoreamerica1558 Жыл бұрын
@@wilkoone9155 well then maybe you should run for President! 😪. First it conserves what resources we have and lower usage while the technology can improve and people adapt. Gives a sensible timeline to build the Infrastructure to support a all electric utopia that your shooting for. Plug in hybrid can eventually improve the conversion process and still work for people in mountainous , cold and rural areas were electric vehicles of today are still not practical. You have farmers and construction workers who rely on large work trucks to do business, moving to hybrid temporarily will be an acceptable transition as technology improves and becomes more affordable for the masses. And most importantly it will be less destructive to the industry that we need and still will need for many years to support the transition. But this would be a common sense approach not a crazy activist one, and there seems to be little common sense left anymore. Scotty is right. Plug in hybrids are the sweet spot for getting a really good amount of the benefits of both a full electric car, and the benefits of an extremely fuel efficient gasoline car. Plug in hybrids are like having a hybrid-hybrid car. It’s the way we should be going.
@ronmorrell9809 Жыл бұрын
The weak part of this model was the low tension piston rings. At about135k miles, our 2010 suddenly started using a quart of oil every 900 miles. I traded it in for a Chevrolet Volt PHEV with exactly the benefits Scotty describes. The computer forces the engine to use up gasoline every 6 months so it doesn't go stale. If we don't go to Grandma's house, 4 gallons is plenty for 6 months. The engine run 15 minutes every month to lubricate the seals. The oil needs to be changed every 24 months. By which time, it may have burned only16 gallons. Another benefit of the PHEV is no range anxiety or problems due to forgetting to plug it in.
@nealupdike5154 Жыл бұрын
Scotty: The plug in hybrid you have never reviewed is the Honda Clarity. It has a battery range of 40 miles before the engine kicks in. FYI due to the government's insane push of all electric cars it's been discontinued.

Our first was a used one, a 2007 Prius (fully loaded) that we picked up for $6K CDN. Drove it 3 years until someone ran into it (writing it off). The insurance company gave us $6600, $600 more than we paid for it. Next we bought a used RAV4 Hybrid, also fully loaded. It’s exceptional. Great in the snow too. Last week we picked up a Prius C, 83K km, super clean and well maintained, cost us $8300 CDN. Amazing fuel economy in a fun little city runabout. The info menu will tell you practical things (like the percentage of EV usage and the cost of each trip - provided you enter the cost per litre when you gas up). It even breaks it down to the cost per km (or mile). It’s easy to use, intuitive, and honestly - it’s fun! They’re practical cars too, being hatchbacks.

Electric energy sounds good, assuming the sources are clean, but if the electricity is from gas, fuel or oil powered sources, then driving an electric car is nothing more than make believe as far as real efficiency and clean energy. What I’ve said years ago and still believe in is that it is going to take way longer for cars to turn all electric, not because of the lack of technology, but the lack of infrastructure to support it. Imagine how many cars are there at a typical fuel stop and how long it takes for a fuel stop (including the use of the restroom and buying something from the convenience store), then imagine all the cars being electric, factor in the time it takes to charge the battery. Then last, but definitely not least, think of the power/resources it would take to maintain and operate as many electric charging stations as there are fuel/gas stations. So, bottom line is that hybrid cars are not to be shied away from, neither are the electrics, but in real life gasoline/petrol powered cars are going to remain in our lives for quite some time.

I'm driving a 2009 Prius with 234000mi. No problems, next to no maintenance, just a little less agile since the battery is aging. OEM battery is $2000, less for aftermarket. Compare that to well over $10k for EV batteries... I agree completely about PHEVs (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles). The only reason I didn't get one is because I can't afford a newer car and the best option for an older PHEV, the Chevy Volt, is hard to find and the guy I was going to buy one from bailed on me. My next car will almost certainly be a PHEV. And given Toyota's solid engineering and rock solid reliability, I'll probably be going with a Prius Prime.

I really like the new Prius but even with the AWD version it simply doesn’t have the ground clearance we need for our 4-6 feet of snow during our winter months

The purpose of the battery electric car is to limit our mobility while simultaneously tracking our every movement. It's not to "save the planet", a patently ridiculous idea if you think it through.

I don’t have a problem with the vehicle, my problem is with the drivers of Toyota Prius. If someone pulls an idiotic move on the road @ least 50% of the time it’s going to be a Toyota Prius driver in my experience.

Ours has 267,000, my grandparents have one with over 400,000 and my father in-laws has almost 350,000. I drive mine pretty hard 100 miles a day to work and back, I couldn't do it without it. They all look and run like they're new

Did 10 hour night shifts unmarked security. Prius is an amazing car. It is very comfortable, more than powerful enough, sips gas, interior set up is calming, beautiful, make sense in ways that you need Omega 3s to understand. They should never electrify this.

I thought this was going to be a video about the AMC Gremlin or Pacer. There's nothing wrong with a prius at all that I can see.

My Aunt Kris used to work for American Motors in Kenosha, WI years ago. We had AMC’s in the family. A Gremlin, a Concord, an Eagle. They looked nice. But broke down a lot! LoL

@@GodofWarChuka There is someone here where I live that owns a running AMC Eagle today! I see it on the freeway sometimes. It is the only one I have seen in many years. I did not mean to say that they are poorly made; I didn't mean that. I just meant they are not perfectly pleasing to the eye in my opinion. I wish American Motors was still in business, because they might offer something better than Chevy or Dodge.

The most irritating oversight was making the ignition coils so hard to remove, you have to remove the windshield wiper panel to change the plugs.

Pinto has to be more hated. My parents had 1 when I was a kid. Not only was it butt ugly but the engine caught on fire. At least it wasnt the gas tank exploded in that death trap

Good afternoon Scotty! Thanks for all your vids on Toyotas and Hondas. My cousin is loving his CRV Hybrid and drove to Boston with it and only had to put $100 of gas total in that thing. It was crazy!

My Next vehicle I'm considering a Rav $ or a CR-v Hybrid either regular or plug in. We will see.
@ghiggs5096 Жыл бұрын
Uhhh Scotty GM already created what you described in the Chevrolet Volt and the Cadillac ELR. They both work great and there's a lot of them still rolling down the road. People still wanted to pure EV's so away the plug in hybrids went. Now if GM was smart they would use the Voltech system in the new electric trucks to extend there range.

I test drove a Prius before... it was dull.. nothing fun about it.... it had 180+ hp... but was slow to response vs. a plain German made V4 Turbo with just 150hp...
