I’ve lived in NYC for fifteen years and never app dated (or really dated at all - I was very focused on my career and I work on Broadway so most of the men are gay) until I started this past April. I have met some decent people but overall? I hate it. I’ve been reading about the creation of the apps, the way they were made to sort of mimic games, dopamine receptors, ludic loops, etc. I feel like the apps have contributed to such a detriment of how people treat each other - I’ve been ghosted twice now, which is always a blessing because who wants to be with someone that can’t communicate like that, but it does hurt! I deleted the apps in early July and I don’t know when I’ll go back on. As much as I love love, and would love to meet someone, I’m so much happier alone.

I didn’t have my first major relationship (committed, in love, planning life & looking at houses together) until I was 30. So glad you’re feeling good about being single. I think moving from a small town to a major city changed my idea of relationships 100%.

I'm 26 and have been single since I was 19! I also feel burnt out with dating, I find it hard anyway but lately just almost cant be bothered (Also I live in London and the dating here is dire honestly) I've felt desperate for a relationship for the last 5 or so years , but recently have really taken time to think and have realised that that might not be the best thing for me right now and thats ok. I'm at a bit of a crossroads career wise and I think for now its good for me to figure things out alone, thats felt very grown up and healthy to find out I think haha

Girl, I feel you. I got majorly fucked emotionally last year by someone and then I was burned out from like a month of dating and being ghosted like 4 times. I'm also hyper independent so I relate! I've never minded being single so my therapist last year was like, "why are you freaking out about him dumping you? You don't mind being single!" You'll meet someone when you meet someone. If you want to read a book on dating, I'd highly suggest 'how to not die alone.' It's really interesting. Good luck!

I moved to NYC recently and my advice is to not try. It sounds ridiculous, but I've seriously met the best people when I'm not trying to meet people. I can't do the apps- I feel like you don't get a good read on a person through a screen. I've started going to events that are centered around my hobbies (like my college alumni chapter, playing rec sports, other interest groups) and I've definitely developed a few crushes through these :) I guess just don't be afraid to go and try things alone, and put yourself out there once you get there!

I met my husband thru my brother in law- my husband was his friend - we we’re friends for many years until one day he asked me in a date that was 33 yrs ago and we celebrated our 31st anniversary in july11 . He is 6 yrs older than me ❤ when it’s the right time it’ll happen.

In the last few years I've had an attitude of waiting for people to come to me (although I've had enough health issues in recent years to make that an easier choice). I did admittedly ask someone out for the first time since I came out as a queer trans women recently admittedly and...well, I didn't completely humiliate myself, so that's...good?

I’m always in dating app cycles! It’s almost impossible to meet someone in person but it seems almost more impossible to meet someone on dating apps… like some others have said, it’s just exhausting. Where’s my Rom-Com moment of bumping into my perfect person in a book store? Is that too much to ask?! 😂

As a married woman, the best thing I did was go out and have a lot of sex. (Before marriage) . I think maybe that’s the way here; just like go have fun! It teaches lots of lessons

Men are horrible now days. They won’t pursue and those that do are arrogant and rude. Those that are available will find anything and everything that you don’t have in common to say why that one thing you don’t have in common is the reason it won’t work when you have a million other things in common. It’s crazy. I’ve been on 3- 1-5 dates men and eventually it fizzles out.
