I love the Shishido fight so much. I love all of symbolism in this fight with the two smashing through the symbol of the Omi Allience and the sun literally setting on the age of the Yakuza with Shishido as its last guardian. I also love how where most of the young yakuza from 6 and 7 lacked an honor system that the older yakuza had, Shishido is a lot like the older yakuza. Despite threatening the orphanage, Kiryu sees Shishido as a relatively honorable person who faces his problems and opponents head on and won’t resort to involving innocent people with their affair. In an age of modern honorless yakuza, the last one standing to defend it is the epitome of the long gone yakuza way.

I never expected a spinoff that was just supposed to plug the hole between 2 main games in the series to be among the best in that series, from the enjoyable gameplay throughout all the way till this ending.

The reason why hanawa doesn't look like morninaga is because facial surgery (well obviously) but that's really cool how they were able to keep the same voice actor for both of them! It had been a while since i finished 5 when i finished gaiden so i had completely forgotten about morinaga but when i looked it up and learned that they have the same voice actor i was actually mind blown. I really liked the Hanawa reveal at the end of Gaiden 🙂

I dunno if you ever got your answer, but Hanawa is Yu Morinaga from Yakuza 5, who "died" offscreen. They share a voice actor and it has been confirmed behind the scenes, although it was never explicitly said in a game anywhere. He presumably got some kind of plastic surgery with the Daidoji.

My biggest gripe with the ending is how they could’ve played Nishitani death as Shishido eliminating the competition for Omi Chairmain after he kills Watase. But no… they brought him back with rubber blood 🤦‍♂️
